just a little breaking news:.
after several years of a great friendship with diane (previously posted as xena) things have started to really come together recently and i've succumbed to making an honest woman of her (or at least as honest as it's possible to make her.
last night (xmas day) i popped the question and she agreed to marry me (i wonder if she knows what she's let herself in for!!!)..
It's about time.
Congrats to you both! (dirty martini for Diane)

let me start by saying that i am not a music fan.
i hardly ever listen to music and almost never buy cd's and my car's stereo is almost always set to npr or some other news station.
i don't even have a stereo system at home... simply because i would never use it.. however, i've been hearing more and more about the ipod devices.
If you are wanting to track your workouts, check out the Garmin Forerunner 305. I don't have the newest model, Steve bought me one for my birthday last year. It has a built in heart rate monitor that will give you audio prompts to keep you within range. You can run with a virtual training partner, it lets you know when you are falling off pace, tracks every run and it's a GPS system so it gives you pace and distance, averages, etc. I love mine. I can also use it on my bike, which is great because my bike computer blasted apart on a big ride last summer. Speed, distance, time, averages and heart rate monitor. What more do I need?
I also love my iRiver. My son just got an iPod Nano from his aunt for Christmas, he's 10. I was going to buy one for my daughter but decided to go with the Sansa M240 1Gig in pink for her. She's 8 and I cheaped out because I fully expect her to trash it or lose it. I did buy the replacement policy from Best Buy for an extra $10. I was able to replace my iRiver after it started failing and was able to upgrade and get another 2 year replacement policy on my new one all under the old policy. Sweet deal. So far, the Sansa is the easiest to use.

My mother-in-law is here and my parents always come over on Christmas Eve. I am making ham, scalloped potatoes, rolls, salad and a vegetable.
Mulan is bringing the Buffalo Wings because my son requested them and she always gives in to him. He actually suggested she bring the whole dinner and turned to me and said "Grandma is a really good cook, why doesn't she make dinner?" Then he settled for the Buffalo wings, his favorite.
I swear I'm a good cook, it's just that grandma always makes his favorites and I make him eat even when it's not his favorite!
my eight year old daughter has wanted to run with me for a long time.
i had us signed up for a girls only run last winter but we woke to snow so i blew it off.
this year i was determined to find a winter run for us.
We lost power at 10pm Thursday night. Listened to the wind howl all night long, woke to no power. Since about 1 million people in the state were without power, most of the school districts were closed, including ours. My last day to get some shopping done without kids...~sigh~... I have a fantastic husband who had the foresight years ago to purchase a generator and have a transfer switch installed, so we really don't suffer when the power goes out. It came back on at about 2:30pm. Mulan's was out until around 7pm that evening. She went elsewhere for most of the day and was fine. There are still thousands in the area without power. Trees and branches down everywhere.
Yesterday my son rode his bike while I ran a two mile loop around a golf course across the street. I bribe him with a slurpee for two laps (4 miles). We both think it's a sweet deal (no pun intended). I saw three giant fir trees completely uprooted on the golf course. They had already cleared most of the wood out of the way but the roots were still laying there. It was crazy. Three small vehicles passed us, each carrying a load of downed branches they were clearing off the course. Even in the foul NW winter weather, the golf course was being played. I've seen them out there in driving rain and even snow. I guess that's the NW for you.
Thanks for your replies!

Saturday our small town of Edmonds had it's own 5K to benefit the local food bank. There were 205 of us running through the town on a very cold morning.
I pushed her pretty good but not beyond what I knew she was capable of. We finished in 36:11. I'm so proud of her. My first 5K I ran in 29 minutes and change, but I was 33! The girl has such potential and she loves it. I can't wait to see what she does next.
how many of you who grew up in the truth truly loved a sport and fought hard against your jw parents to get to play it?
post your experience here.
my determination to play come hell or high water led to my mother turning me over to the state as a youngster, which then lead to foster care and freedom until i foolishly came back to the borg as an adult.
I really wanted to play sports but knew there was no chance whatsoever. Now for the first time I'm playing on an adult co-ed volleyball league. My team is made up of five ex-dubs and three never-been-a-dubs. Always cracks me up because we are the most competitive team and I'm pretty sure it's because most of us were not allowed to play competitively as kids.
I love that my eight year old daughter is able to play team sports. I think it's so important for girls to play team sports. She plays volleyball in the spring and fall and basketball in winter. It's awesome.

for the second day in a row, the schools are closed because of the snow.
very strange for november.. it is collllddddd today and the roads are solid ice after the bit of a thaw yesterday.
another big snowstorm hit last evening.
Glad you were able to get that $$$ from the insurance company. At least they come through on occasion, eh?
Since the weather is holding, I sent Steve out to fix some freeze breaks. It's only going to get busier as it thaws out.
We just aren't prepared for snow on this side of the state. It's very hilly, no matter where you go, and the DOT doesn't have enough snowplows or sanding trucks to clear all the streets. Since the high schools start by 7am, the buses are out on the streets when it's still very icy and treacherous. I don't think they had to close the schools once last year for snow, it's a pretty rare occurance to see snow and ice around here, and the kids are having a blast.
My son is bummed that he might have to actually go to school this week. Friday is a teacher day at school, no kids! So, at the very most, they will only have one day of school and have been off since Thanksgiving. He's complaining.
man that first scene should bring back some bad memories but it's good.
long live the d !!!!!.
you can't kill the metal, the metal will live on !!!!
Love the D.

My fabulous coffee machine died on me so I had to brave the cold and drive to Williams Sonoma to get it replaced. Then Steve made me hurry home so he could take the old 4WD to work. The nice newer one is sitting in the driveway covered in snow and ice. Fat lot of good it does me there!
We have so many plumbing calls to make but it's just impossible to get to them! Totally frustrating. We are supposed to thaw out over night. Then the real fun begins. When the frozen pipes thaw, they make quite a mess, and the phone rings like crazy.
When I got home from the mall, I backed into the driveway and slid back into the street. The kids found it hilarious. So I backed up the drive again, shut off the car and slid back down again. Then all the snow piled up on the roof came sliding down the windshield. The kids were in hysterics but I couldn't get the stupid Land Cruiser to stay put! So I left it there. Stooopid car.
