Rented any good movies lately?

since neil and i are a little on the tight side financially lately, we've taken to renting movies more often to entertain ourselves.

the other night we watched "riding giants" a documentary on surfing.

if you haven't watched it, it's a must see...even if you don't appreciate the sport you will after watching it.

Totally agree. Funny as hell.

"Touching the Void" A documentary and one of the all-time greatest survival stories ever. The man's will to live despite impossible odds is remarkable.

It's on my Netflix list but I keep bumping it down due to the next recommendation:

"City of God." You'd like this one, Billy. A boy growing up in the ghetto hell of Brazil's "City of God" discovers he has a gift for photography. Subtitled.

I rented this one based on a thread months ago where Mega recommended it. I HATED it. Yuk. Steve liked it but didn't love it. I found it depressing and miserable. I guess being a mother might make it more difficult to watch due to excessive violence at an early age. These children had horrible lives. Awful awful move. IMHO of course.

Last week Steve was gone so I watched Spanglish. Great movie. Funny, sad, tragic and uplifting. This is not a typical Adam Sandler comedy. Chloris Leachman steals every scene she's in and Tea Leoni plays an amazingly tragic disfunctional mom. Steve got home in the middle and watched most of it with me.

we are going to a baseball game.

i would rather watch paint dry.

however, a good excuse to do beer and pizza, hot dogs & beer, popcorn & beer, burgers & beer, beer and beer.

tonight is the night

so i am being announced (the new way) as being df'd tonight.

me and my ex--who wont show up so i will be there all alone.

i am still unsure of how i feel about the whole thing.

My husband and I went to ours. We hadn't been in about six years so it was a bit of a shock when we showed up...in jeans and t-shirts. We refused to stand for the song or prayer. We just sat through the hideous school and after they announced us, we stood up, grinned and walked out. They talked about it for weeks.

Totally different situation for you though. I agree with those who said YOU make the decision. Don't let your father make that decision for you. You are an adult.

when i was a witness, i shared a house with an elder/pioneer named herb.

herb was in his eighties, and he had paid off his two-bedroom house long ago, so he would offer the extra bedroom to local brothers.

it was a good deal, and herb got some company at the house, so everyone benefited.. for being in his eighties, herb was exceptionally fit.

I'm sorry you lost a friend SNG. I know exactly the man you are talking about and am sad to hear he died. Friendly old guy.

Flat Stanley is off traveling again!

ok, i promised an update on stanley today.

we found him over the weekend.

seems he was getting cozy with aude in california.

Cyclists?

are there any other people here who are into bicycling or handcycling?.

last year, my husband got a handcycle (he can't use a bicycle due to handicap) and i got a new bicycle and we have been enjoying cycling.

last september, we went on our first cycling tour and did the 20 mile.

I love cycling!

This year I've backed way off my cycling while my husband trains for a double century ride in July followed by a 154 mile, two mountain pass ride at the end of July. We usually ride the double century ride together over two days but this year he is riding it in one day. With two kids under 9, we both can't train adequately for an event of this size, so this is his year. Last year I trained for and ran two marathons so he's earned the extra training time!

I've been planning on getting on my bike for several weeks but have been kept off due to school field trips, half days and rain. I plan on riding a 28 mile trail at least once a week to train for a triathlon in August. I swim laps once a week and run four days a week. I can't wait to get on my bike.

We found him over the weekend. Seems he was getting cozy with Aude in California. She's packed him up and mailed him off to Rhys' auntie in Mass.

Rhys came home with a DVD from Alaska all about native animals to Alaska! He watched it right away of course (even though we don't typically allow TV on weekdays, we made an exception). Thanks so much for such a generous gift.

The pictures and maps from Idaho arrived last week (or at least that's when the teacher presented them). Like I mentioned in the last FS thread, the class has been really busy with field trips lately.

Morty, I forgot to follow up on your stuff. I'm going to shoot an email to the teacher right now.

I spent 1 hour and 45 minutes tying strings on drinking straws today (they were making puppets) and forgot to check up on Stanley in class. I'm really good at the stringing straw thing but it was so tedious and mind numbing that I forgot everything I was planning to do.

There you have it. Stanley probably has time for one more trip after Massachusettes so if anyone wants him, let me know.
