  Hiya - hope ya had the bestest birthday and all the family are doing good

  Oh I did, best in a LONG time. Usually someone is sick and the celebration has to be postponed...it's never the same when it's postponed. This time, Rhys was getting over strep throat but well enough to stick with a babysitter for many, many hours.

  We went to dinner with friends then back to my house for poker, drinks, pie and well not cookies exactly but the effect was the same...knowwhatImean?

  I'm astonished the cookies have lasted so long, Ya musta been rationing them after Gumby started devouring them - not a wonder his butt is big

  I don't eat them. We were both training all spring and summer (I still am, almost done for the season!) and rarely get in to them.

  That still just kills me. It's the only thing about that party that doesn't make me ill.

  Hey Rachel. You got any more of those cookies! ( she's the best little cookie maker)

  Steve says we have about 1/2 dozen left. A couple friends have been asking about a lesson in the proper techniques for baking cookies, so I'll probably make several dozen more soon. We are in need of a critical ingredient that has been in short supply as of late.

  Mmmmmm bread machines

  i have a bread machine and have been experimenting with it this week.

  my first breads were really dense and heavy.

  they were ok but definitely not great.. so i went to the books and they said the liquids need to be lukewarm not cold from the fridge.. so after yet another white bread heavy i just tried a raisin bread recipe.. ok i'm addicted.

  I'll do it for you then. It's the only one I make and I keep it safe in my head.

  1 1/4 cup water
  1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  1/2 cup grains ( I use multi grain hot cereal, oatmeal, whatever I have or omit it if I don't have any on hand)
  2 cups whole wheat flour
  1 cup all purpose flour
  1 1/2 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)
  1 1/2 teaspoon yeast
  3 tablespoons sugar

  I add about 4-5 tablespoons of ground flaxseed meal for extra fiber and omega3's, cuz I'm a bit of a fanatic. You can't taste it and it adds such a nutrtitional punch that I can't resist. Bob's Red Mill is a great brand and they have it at Trader Joes.

  I've made a mental note not to move to Arkansas where the whole wheat flour is full of critters.

  my folks have had one lying round for years so now that im more mature and older i have taken and using a program to put it on the computer.

  i have spent all day on it and prob no where near finished.

  i have so much more research to do it.

  Mozz's aunt was all excited about doing their family tree. She was convinced they had important people in their lineage. The more she researched, the more she was disappointed. Much of his family were nothing but a bunch of horse thieves and criminals back several hundred years ago.

  Steve had a customer a while back who was wealthy and had an original Maxfield Parrish in her home. As he was admiring it he commented that Parrish was a distant cousin of mine (he was given his mother's maiden name Maxfield, same as my mom's maiden name) and the woman was offended because her name was Parrish and she also was a relative. I guess it was just too horrifying to realize you were distantly related to your plumber's wife. Steve just smiled and said, "you don't have to go back more than three generations in any family to find prostitutes and horse thieves. Likeable people, all of them."

  Apparently she about had a stroke but since he was done, he left grinning. Loves to put those rich old biddies in their place.
