i decided to annoy someone other than simon and the moderators for a change.
so i decided to raise the ire of my local bible-thumpers.
well actually this ain't the first time, but the local paper put my letter in a special spot on the letters page this time so i expect some fire and brimstone very quickly and heavily.
In order to purchase a six-pack on a Sunday, one must identify him or herself as non-Christian. Agnostics, atheists and other non-Christians may purchase and consume alcohol on Sundays, provided they don't drive drunk or get drunk in public of course, but Christians may not.
Excellent reasoning against a idiotic law!
BTW, you can buy alcohol every day here in Australia!

I miss Kismet. He was one of the few true gentlemen on this board.
Pathofthorns was interesting.
Jelly would disappear for periods of time, and just when you started to miss him, he'd turn up.
I miss Outlaw - I HOPE nothing bad has happened to him.
on many occasions at the kh brothers are seen hugging sisters and i wondered how that would make you feel and would you tell your husband about it?
on several occasions i knew of this married sister who was constantly approached by a married elder and he would hug this sister to the point it made her feel uncomfortable.
upon speaking to her about it on many an occasion i said to her if you feel uncomfortable then it he is in the wrong.
I don't like the tone of LW's posts towards OFC. I think it's bad taste for LW to insinuate that OFC has some kind of sexual problems, and wonder how that relates to what OFC has posted about her younger sister's situation.
OFC, It seems there is not alot you can do about your sister's situation, particularly since she hasn't spoken to you for 4 years. It's hard when you see someone you love heading for trouble, but she is an adult now, and has to make her own decisions. For all you know, she might be welcoming the other bro's advances. Perhaps she's unhappy in her marriage? Sometimes things are not all that they appear, so you don't really know what is going through your sister's mind.
I hope this situation doesn't get you too down. Just let your sister know that you will be there for her no matter what happens.
(((HUGS)))
why is it a social custom to say "congratulations" to a guy when his wife/gf has had/is having a baby?.
what has he done to deserve the sentiments?
all he's done is have an orgasm and spurt some semen into her?
Prisca, my question to you would be, What do you propose we should say to fathers instead of congratulations? No idea, Ballistic. My question was why we say it, I wasn't proposing it shouldn't be said, or that something else should be said in its place.
a long time jw wife left her husband, an elder, recently.
when mrs sheep told me, i asked what happened.
the black clouds of mordor rolled over the hills of the shire behind our house and i rapidly withdrew to my cave.. later, i suggested, in wide eyed innocence, that she should give her a ring as she probably needs all the friends she can get at this time.
LOL.

Shamus,
The key is to get a subject that gets ppl to think.
The Lesbian Kiss thread got heaps of replies (let alone reads) because it is a controversial subject. People who claim to be liberally-minded still have hesitancy when it comes to topics such as homosexuality. Hence ppl posted their views, and even encouragement for those who dared to be different from the norm.
I posted my topic because it was something I had begun to think about. Why do we have certain sayings in our social custom? Sometimes I think we do/say things because it's the done thing, without much thought to why or how. As JWs we did what we were told to do, with little thought to why we accepted such commands. We did them because it was what was expected of us. But if we'd really thought about many things more deeply (such as the shunning doctrine) maybe we'd left the JWs sooner?
Just my 2c.

LOL @ Shamus..
Just goes to show that if you post "idiotic topics" during "that time of the month" (even though I'm mid-cycle) inspired by people that you're supposed to be fighting with, you too can have threads running for many pages!
at a meeting last thursday night, so i'm reliably informed, a brother was sweeping up outside the kh as he always does every meeting.
on this occasion however, he was taken to one side by an elder, told it was not his place to sweep the front of the hall, and to go back to a neighbouring congregation as he is "not wanted here!".
maybe only the super-righteous can sweep in public and the rest of us slosh out the latrines!!!!!!!!!
ROTFLOL @ "What a Dweeb"
Priceless
