mP, no doubt you are aware that the global temperature varies widely but really needs to be compared over millenia, not years. We are in the middle of a larger cooling trend, but we are warming up anyways. We've only been able to reliably measure the polar ice pack since 1979 and the advent of satellites.

You cant have it both ways. Your the one who introduced a graph that shows less than 10 years worth of data.

If we have not been able to measure the polar ice pack then is it honest to make big statements when there is limited knowledge or samples going back for more than 30 years ?

Perhaps if we saw the other years, we might see a fluctuation as 2003ish seemed pretty much well covered, and your claims are not quite as dramatic. Is that honest ? Is that the full picture ?

That's because we have people like Tony Abbott and Alan Jones (and mP) claiming there's no need. Once Australia got away from Howard, Rudd ratified the Kyoto protocol and at least took some environmentally favourable steps - which Abbot tried to block.

Not quite, the dams you mention are simply governemnts taking advantage of natural resources. If your a poor country and theres a big powerful river then it makes sense to leverage it. Many of those countries had at best almost no electricity.

Changing the source that eventaully gives you electricity saves coal, but doesnt change the petrol burden or use.

Just like Middle East oil drives European and American cars, Australian coal and steel helps powers Japan & China. If you look at Australia its coal export business is on the increase more than ever.

Yes the Aust government is stopping global warming by exporting record amounts of coal.

Im pretty confident if we go back and study the figures for Coal usage in America, China, Japan and other hungry countries we will see the same. Only increases and no real decreases.

Where are the pics for the years before to compare. Given the Arctic in 2003 is pretty all covered in ice, does that mean global warming didnt exist before then or perhaps had no affect on that part of the world ?

Im curious why 33% of these papers are about GW and 66% are not ? Are 33% of *ALL* scientific papers in the world really about GW ? Seems strange. The counting mechanism seems strange.

However, some governments are doing a lot about it. Germany produces more power from solar energy than Australia does, even though it's a much smaller area, and gets less sunlight throughout the year per area. And Sweden imports rubbish from other countries for use in clean energy production.

During WW2 all countries had to change many things such as food rationing because they had a big problem with the war. its been about 10 years and nothing has changed in our lives ? All the big polutting things continue just like before.

Firstly you failed to mention that Ger after the nuclear accidents has been looking for new energy forms. It also had problems with gas supplies from Russia and so on. In the end solar or wind etc may very well be the best way to source much of their energy rather than having dependencies on others that may be perceived as unreliable and so on.

How did you forget to mention what i just did ? Did you forget when Russia cut gas supplies ? Germany had to try new things.

I wonder which conclusion is more feasible.

The aust gov has done nothing, thats a fact, because theres no problem or they themselves dont believe there is a problem.

BTW telling us obvious facts like Au has more sun than Ger hardly proves your position. I could waste everyones time and say the sky is blue in my next reply but that doesnt make the remainder of what i type equally true.

i'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.

if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).

they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

mp the only answer I get when I ask that question is that they get it from friends and family I saw another video of an Iranian man and his family in Indonesia that has spent 25,000 dollars for himself and his family to get to Australia and when the boat started to sink he was rescued in Indonesia but he hasen't given up he is willing to pay another $25000 and try again.

Wow these guys must have lots of friends. To get $10k they need 1000 friends giving them $10 each. Thats a fortnights pay each. The problem is the $10k for the boat trip isnt the full bill. You can double that because it costs money to get oney to get from their original home to the right place in indo and naturally pay officials and others for help.
