  Attended a JW funeral the other day

  i had an account on here sometime ago but forgot the login, but i often read the site.. a long-term friend of mine, a jw, asked me to go to his grandmothers jw funeral a few weeks ago.. i was hesitant obviously.

  i haven't been to a kh in over 5 years.. i am not df/da.

  i decided to quit in 2007 following my failed marriage to a jw.. the person who died was a very well-respected jw pioneer.

  Yes, the speaker was less concerned with the person who died, and more concerned with preaching the Watchtower's message. But, I'm sure every devoted Watchtowerite wouldn't have it any other way.

  I went to a funeral two days ago. Some things I didn't like, were the speaker said "Nowhere does the bible talk about soul surviving death" I thought of the Rich man and Lazarus "It happened that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom".

  They then went on to use the funeral speech as a tool to convert all her non-Witness relatives. And said her dying wish was that her family put "The Truth" first in their lives.

  Just bring in two recording devices. One old tape deck (a big one), and one spy device (like the pen). When asked about recording, surrender the old tape deck, and say "I'm not comfortable with this, but let's proceed anyhow".

  Is there any religion that has so much anti-apostate focus as JWs

  i'm surprised at how much is in the watchtower lately and at assemblies warning of apostates.

  is it my imagination or is this ramping up a lot lately.

  i am a born-in and stopped attending only a few years ago (now in my 40's) but don't remember so much anti-apostate warning as we see now.. the watchtower seems extra obsessed with apostates and the need to warn about them lately.

  so some of my jw friends can't answer a lot of the questions i put to them.

  invariably they end up with the comback line of "this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

  " and state that jws are the only ones doing the preaching.. i suspect most jws who've left have come across this.

  Their typical answer to those countries (Middle East, China ...) is "witnessing work is happening underground", and the borg can't publish the stats because it could put brothers at risk.
