Ding: Wow I'm genuinely impressed that you managed to get someone to come back alone, let alone leave! I really appreciate the detailed response, I will be interested to try using it. I think there is definitely a way I can use the same aproach but perhaps tailor it to the issues that I have personally with the orgnisation. That way, I shouldn't get tripped up. I suppose the ultimate message there is to play dumb and let them see the flaws themselves.
Steve2: I'm not sure why you can't see the link, I think like you said, it might be the computer your currently on. I wouldn't say it was an epiphany, it was one of the first times that I had come into contact with someone who was my age when I was in the religion. I was born and raised as a JW but left at 13, ever since then I only had connections with older adults. So to be able to interact with someone who essentially reminded me of myself brought back a lot of mixed emotions. Ultimately it changed the way I feel about the 'indoctrination' of young kids, whereas before I had remained fairly impartial since I feel I turned out rather well-balanced.
Like I said, not an epiphany, but I wanted to not only get my feelings down but perhaps open the conversation with people who have been in the same position as me and see how their experiences compared. The reason I linked to it was because I write these experiences to share with friends and family on my blog, but am also keen to share it with the people on this forum.

Wha happened?: I'm not sure I understand your question?
Ding: That's a really interesting angle, I think I've always aproached the issue with a disliking of their structure etc. but not really felt confident enough to challenge them using the material they provide. Maybe I'll use that one! Have you had any success with it? :)

Great insight Moshe, but I'd like to think that this forum was about taking an interest and supporting others with these types of things. I wouldn't call it an epiphany but it certainly stirred up a lot of past emotion. I'm not sure what you were expecting?

Young people growing up as Jehovah's Witnesses
by socstu init's been a while since i've posted on here, but the last time i did i was looking for young people to take part in my dissertation research.
well that was a whole year ago now and i can tell you i was very happy and relieved to have received a first class on the paper.. i've subsequently just wrote a blog post on the topic.
it's not a copy of my dissertation, but more of a musing which is very much informed by all my interviews.. anyway i hope you find it somewhat interesting:.

Glad you all seem to enjoy the post. Likeabird, I'll message you with all the references I've discovered on the JWs. I also have digital copies of a lot of them so you can let me know which ones interest you and ill send them along. :)

I definitely DID have nightmares, and I still have the occasional one to this day. It usually involves Satan and/or demons coming to attack me and that I have to yell Jehovah or pray to him to keep them away. This is DESPITE my dream-self's internal monlogue saying, "What are you doing? Jehovah doesn't exist!"
So yes, many nightmares as a kid! It's pure luck that I turned out so well balanced.

Definitions for JW words
by socstu indoes the watchtower have some sort of dictionary for people to consult for words they use such as publisher, ministry, pioneer.. just wondering as i don't wanna just say what my version of those words mean if they aren't exactly true..

Out of interest, from your experiences, what has to happen for someone to be marked as a do-not-call? It's one of those words which is tough to find any official WT perspective on but is used almost every Saturday.
