A Question For the Guys...
by Quendi inthis thread was inspired by the "a question for the ladies..." thread and anybody is welcome to post.. if you are now free and clear of the wts, how have your dress and grooming changed?
i'll start the ball rolling by saying that i made some changes that i really like.
i'm down to two suits and they are only for job interviews and perhaps some solemn occasion.

Am now sporting a truly magisterial beard. Not shaved for about 7 months. Moustache is doing pretty good also.
Always hated shaving!
As for style well, my son mentioned that he was going to have to take me shopping. Maybe I could use a little help in that department.

Hospitality after Public Talk - ???
by RubaDub ini see a lot of mentions about hospitality after the public talk and honestly, i guess it is a practice that was not in the ny/ct area i grew up in or here in south florida today.. i grew up with an elder father and grandfather who gave public talks and were generally well-liked.
as a child, i never recall being invited to someone's house after the meeting.
granted, it was rare to travel more than an hour but regardless, it was typical to get in the car and head home after the "amens.

It just reminds me that deep down, the average JW is just a regular person that really wants to be good. Too bad the WT leadership ruins it with their ridiculous need to control and their hypocritical lies.
It really should be criminal what the WT Leaders have done and continue to do. What a beautiful thing it could be.
Wow, 00dDAD, I cound not agree more. I think that is one of the most concise descriptions of peoples circumstances given.

That attendant has been workin his way up to that assignment for 20 years now. His next privilege is going to be handing out the single paper towel in the men's room.
Or maybe holding up a sign in front of a converted women's restroom that says: Nursing Mothers Only.
Does the saying: "No good deed goes unpunished" apply here? HeHeHe!

What Do Jehovah's Witnesses Have Going For Them?
by minimus inthere must be a reason jws stay or people join..

Why do they join?
What is presented to them sounds good. But people don't ask the right questions about what they are taught. Ex. What happens in detail if later I decide to not be part of this organisation that I am joining?
As a result, they cannot truly evaluate the pros and cons of what they are getting in to.
And they cannot be faulted for not knowing the right questions to ask.

Another thing to realize is that the appraised value on your property, and I am assuming that we are talking about the county tax assessors appraisal, may not be anywhere close to what the current selling price of the land actually is. It could be lower or much higher. I have property that the acreage is appraised at less than 20 percent of it's current selling price, and no time soon am I going to contest my estimated tax value. The easiest way is to check asking prices of like property in that area. Call a local realtor or check online listings.

Jim_TX-
I live in the Houston area and a couple of years ago had been looking for acreage around the hill country, Wimberley, Blanco area. Everyone it seems has been purchasing land for vacation homes or 2nd homes over in that area. Prices have not fallen despite hard economic times. That area is still one of the fastest growing in the US. You might try checking on other similar lots that are for sale in the same area, with similar utilities and road access etc.
The offer from your neighbor sounds like they are trying to lowball you, and see if you will bite, maybe they think that you have to sell or need the cash. Usually most people if adjoining lots come up for sale around them, they will pay a premium for them in rural areas, just so people can't build right next to them. After all that is sometimes why they moved to the country.
Also, you can't always rely on the appraised value. Could be that you need to contest the appraised value. One of the easiest ways to find what people are paying is to just call up a realtor on a piece of property that is similar property, and see what they want for it.
Hope this helps.

Youtube Video: Romney and Religion: Is America Ready for a Mormon President?
by OnTheWayOut ini am glad some people are saying the things i have thought about a mormon running for president of the usa:.

I would have to agree with Qcmber's #5 point. An election of Romney would only tend to give legitamacy to the Mormon cult, and the bleedover would naturally tend to give the same tacit approval to other cults and high control groups, or religions that outwardly appear mainstream and clean but are actually dangerous and destructive.
