Imagine someone that didn't experience Armegeddon in 1975.
I don't even have to imagine, my parents were among them. And they were brought in just a few years prior on the premise that '75 was probably the year. (or "I'll eat my hat" as the elder they studied with put it).

Dropping the blood ban all at once would definately cause a mass exodus. Imagine everyone who knows and loves someone who died or faced death suddenly being told that they did so at the ill advice of an organization that commands strict adherence.
They'd have to do it gradually. First, stop talking about it. Stop disfellowshipping for blood (as they have falsely claimed to have already done in court). Then make a casual statement that out of love and understanding for brothers and sisters in critical medical situations, judgement is saved for Jehovah.
Then make it a conscience matter. That would do it, the old "conscience matter" routine!

I left the Org. when I was 18. But even at 18, my elder father still regularly asked me if I had been putting money in the box. I knew that some dubs, including my father, would make donations with a personal check. Obviously this way, even if one hand didn't know what the other was doing, those who emptied the contribution box sure did.
I'm just curious if the pressure goes beyond those once-in-a-while talks that were strictly fund-rasing. Has anyone ever been pressured to give, or felt that their status in the congregation depended on their verifiable donations?

tonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.
the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.
through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.
See, if you leave Jehovah's Org you are perhaps condemning your kids to death. Can't do that to the kids. My brother died in infancy and the elders told my parents that they had to stay faithful in order for him to be resurrected.

i dont know how many of you attended a spanish speaking hall like i did but in my experience and from reading people's posts i think that there are some pretty big differences.
1. spanish congs are more liberal .

it seems like they have been trying to reign in control of jw's use of the internet for the last few years but pandora's box has already been opened.
if they had just banned it from the beginning many dubs would have been afraid that if they went on the ineternet they would immediately be possesed by demons.

...sounds pretty dangerous to me, especially since the Society has been doing this from day one and has miserably failed.
has anybody noticed the trend of a lot of sellers to lure you in with a low price, only to find, in very tiny print at the bottom, the cost of shipping "and handling" usually being as much as the product itself?
i have seen sellers charge $70.00 to send a "buy it now" item that costs $100.00.

One reason sellers move their profit into s/h is that eBay takes a percentage of each sale as their cut. By putting a low price but high s/h, they are reducing eBay's cut. That's why eBay has a policy against unreasonably high s/h. They don't seem to enforce that rule, however.
Some sellers are straightforward about this in bold print at the top of their ad. Others are not.
tonight i'm voting in the official "word of the year" election held at the annual american dialect society conference.

as defined by the ads, the word of the year is the word that "most colored the nation's lexicon, or otherwise dominated the national discourse.

because i have a sense of humor about the many failed prophecies of the jw's, i've always wanted some ex-jw merchandise with some class and humor to go with it.
i've considered marketing a few of my ideas.....coffee mugs, shirts, etc.
there are so many areas to go (no blood, no military service, college = devil's propaganda, etc.
The mug should add "and they leave a magazine at a laundromat early in the day to get their time started!"
