I was not allowed to go to the 6th grade camp out at camp Chickagami until one of the sixth grade teachers talked my dad into letting me go. But when my high school vice-principle tried to talk him into letting me go to school dances the answer was no. I'm an elder's son (biologically at this point even though my father shook my hand and said we could be a family despite our religious differences, then went back on his word when the WT cracked the whip. Now he won't even speak to me or my sister.) I was allowed to be in after school sports until we moved to a different congregation where the need was great. Back then your eldership didn't go with you. You had to start over. So obviously he thought he'd have better chances moving up if I wasn't in sports so Dad said no. But I was allowed to be in the after school computer club for some reason (???) Well a year went by at the new congregation and Dad wasn't an MS yet so we moved back to the original congregation where he was again an elder and I was allowed to be in sports again. It was always about how things looked for him and his status in the organization. He got up to COBE but never got to be a CO like he wanted. One time I got in trouble and my dad said "Do you know what this means?" I replied "that I might have to talk to the elders?" He said "NO I mean how this is going to look for ME and my eldership!"

School teachers and jw parents
by caves indid anyone have problems with their parents and teachers butting heads on the jw 'rules' we as kids faced when going to school.
extra circular activities, sitting out for birthdays and holidays... ect.. the jw that raised me was quite a vocal, loud, sometimes violent tempered person and there were many clashes with my teachers.
thank goodness the superintendent took me under his wing, his wife and him for a while.

What immodest clothing have you got in trouble for wearing?
by Addison0998 ini personally have a very distinct sense of style and fashion which many of the fellow jdubs frown upon.
recently, i was told by a few specially self righteous ones that i looked like a prostitute in a pair of white boots!
a pair of 3 inch heeled, just a little taller than the ankle boots, with skirt that came down to my knees and a black long sleeve shirt that came up to my collarbone.

I had first left but was still not DF'd. I had moved a few hours away and a JW in my area who would frequently visit my old congregation asked if I wanted to tag along. So I went, thinking it would be a good chance to see my family. We arrived on a Friday night and of course we had to go out in service the next morning. Because all of my clothes were in a suitcase, my pants were kind of wrinkled. My dad (the elder) was so upset about my pants. He felt the wrinkles brought "shame upon Jehovah's people". Even after arriving home and speaking to my dad on the phone, telling him it was nice to see the family, he just could not hold back saying how embarrassed he was about my wrinkled pants. That was apparently his takeaway from the entire weekend.

Crying "Wolf!"
by Phizzy inthe wt/gb have been doing this for so long now that i get the feeling it has really had its day.
even when i was in, i for one had no fear of armageddon, or any real belief i would see it in my lifetime anyway.
i could feel then that it was difficult to really get any sense of urgency pushing the bros, they just carried on with life, admittedly, with most of them still hoping to actually see a paradise earth.. i get the feeling now that even long time jw's like my jw family are resigned to not seeing the "end", and more importantly, i think the general smell of bull***t that comes from the gb has taken away a lot of the respect they used to get, and means that their chief weapon fear , is losing its power.. the fear of being df'd is still wielded as a weapon very effectively, but all the "end is soooo close" stuff has run out of puff with most of the r&f.. the wt has "cried wolf" for far too long ..

You're right though, a sales pitch is nothing without a sense or urgency, and they're just not pulling it off anymore. Maybe for a minute in third world countries, but they can't even afford to send missionaries there anymore.

On the 100th anniversary of their crying wolf for 1914, now they say "will this be our last memorial?" They will never stop because it's part of the program.

Hardcore JW Friend Predicts the End of the Organization within 10 years.
by kneehighmiah inhad a conversation with an aspiring elder.
he said the end must be close because people are so discouraged that the organization can't last more than 10 years.
this is before we received the please come to the international convention letter.

It's not going to collapse. I'd love to see it, but there are too many people who will swallow anything because they've been in their entire lives and know nothing else. The JW org is full of blank pages that the organization writes on. Many don't think for themselves because they can't anymore, and if they occasionally do, they are guilted into dismissing those thoughts or given the boot. Any group that can openly tell their followers to guard from independent thinking and have them believe it is good advice is working with a lot of mushy brains that are easily manipulated. There are millions of people who look at the overlapping generations explanation and think it is wonderful new light and meat in due season. It may grow smaller, but even when Russell died after his failed 1914 prophesy, there were those who thought that the Watchtower was God's spirit directed organization.

if and when beliefs are "refined"(corrected) does that give me an out?
by ?me? indid my baptism include "you will preach and accept any change, big or small, or we can call you an apostate?".
meaning, has anyone, or could anyone opt out of the org when they make changes that you did not originally agree to when you were baptized as a jw?.
i have basically refused to go out in service or support the org (with money or in the rbc) and i have a real hard time even conjuring up an answer at any meeting because of the 8 man "body " that put itself in power.

The Witness baptism is not a baptism, it's an initiation into the club. Now yes, the club got you there under false pretenses (no paradise Earth by promised time) (promise was misattributed to the Creator) etc. etc. But the club ain't lettin' ya out honorably. It's kinda like the mob.

How Were You "Screwed" By The Organization?
by minimus ini believe this thread will be many pages!.

It's simple, really. They set up a closed society which operated as a dictatorship. They enticed my parents to join and I was dragged along. My youth was set up to only serve the organization and my life was built around people in the organization. Once I left, all of my friends that I was allowed to have were withdrawn from me. I was left out in the cold with a brain conditioned to view independant thinking as evil. I had to start life over as an 18-year-old infant. So they screwed me out of 18 years and my family.
