Some think there is a bio-evolutionary root to the seven year itch. It takes about seven years for children to mature enough not to be a burden on the mother. It is time for the male to leave and get another female pregnant.

the seven year itch
by Crumpet inex -mr crumpet and i after just shy of 8 years together have found we are arguing more and more and have decided to split up.
since we made the decision on monday this week we have been getting on like a house on fire.
the arguments have stopped, he is on time for all his appointments to meet, which hasn't happened in years, he phones if he's going to be late and i have stopped being a moody cow and drinking all his wine without permission.. the hope is that we will get back together and find eahc other attractive again after a break from one another.

ALL SCRIPTURE 'INSPIRED' BY GOD......
by Mary inthis doesn't make alot of sense to me, because the word "inspire" can have alot of different meanings, as i've copied from the merriam-webster online dictionary below.
while i definitely believe in god, i think that #5 is probably closer to the truth.
if i write a book or a song and say i was inspired by elvis, that doesn't mean that elvis wrote it or even approved it-----it simply means that i wrote it with him in mind.

There are those on this forum that know more about greek etc. but I remember doing some research and there are some who believe that scripture can be translated:
"All scripture (THAT) is inspired is beneficial..."

JWs are very much unlike early christians!
by greendawn indo you think the jws are really modelled on the early church as they like to claim?
i don't think they come close to it in terms of doctrine, authority structure, or mindset.
eg they know nothing about charity towards their own or fellow humans in general, they have a very centralised power structure, they kick against any advice given to the fds, they never celebrate the eucharist, they are jehovah rather than christ centred.

I believe that JW's are definitely like the early christians. If you read some of the early Church Fathers you see the same pettiness.
Tertulian said women should dress modestly because "eve" was responsible for bringing sin into the world and tempting Adam.
Women were dirt in the early Christian Congregation.
They provided welfare only to widows who were on the special "list".
The apostles were fighting over positions while Jesus was still on the earth. Imagine what things were like after it became clear Jesus wasn't coming quickly.
Unfortunately.... in many ways JW's are like the early Christians.

Jehovah's Witnesses use "the end is near" both ways. You can find plenty of quotes in their publications showing this.
They say:
A: " The end is near"----THEREFORE--- you ought to stay close to the congregation.
B: You aren't supposed to be serving Jehovah because "The end is near". THEREFORE-- the nearness of the end is not significant.
Ask your relatives which is the correct attitude.

Is it reasonable for Christians to believe in 'aliens' ?
by Franz inby "aliens" let's assume beings capable of making moral choices, having intellect, emotion, and a will (angels, who are extra-terrestrials, also fit into this category, but this answer will deal with three-dimensional, physical beings).
i'll briefly address the question of algae or even dog or cat-like animals later.
but first, a few scientific facts:

It's ridiculous to argue from the assumption that the Bible is the measure of truth. It clearly isn't.
If there is an omnipotent & omnicient person who created and controls everything then HE is clearly responsible for what HE doesn't do.
Bible believers are blinded by their parents propaganda. Most people believe the Bible because it was presented as truth before they had the tools to reason.
But there is another type of blindness that must be considered. Having discovered they were fooled by their parents religion, skeptics fail to investigate the possibility that there may be other forces besides an imaginary "GOD" that may be interested in the Earth and Mankind.
Is there intrinsic sin? Are there beings from some weird quantum parallel earths that are tweaking our natural evolution? Perhaps they are ethically limited in how much they can intervene in our evolution. Intrinsic sin is the natural boundary (cell wall) that drives evolution. But at some point the wall of SELF-ishness becomes dangerous to everyone. Especially at the level of "nationalism". Nationalism is the most dangerous expression of boundary. The most powerful message of Jesus was that there is no special sacred geographical location on earth. His earthly visit coincided with the end of the Jewish temple . Perhaps humans have to realize this before they can enter the realm of cosmic evolution.
No group on earth have adopted this philosophy as much as JW's. They take their neutrality seriously. They don't lift up sword against anyone.
This is in contrast to the re-nationalization of all the other Christian religions. Roman Catholic, Anglican Church, Greek Orthodox, Southern Baptists, Russion Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox etc. etc.
Could Jesus be an alien? Is the story of a virgin birth a convenient cover for the fact that he pops onto the scene at the age of 30. There is almost nothing written about Jesus growing up.
Did humans need a model of self-sacrifice? You can't ignore the fact that the world was changed by the Jesus model.
There is certainly some kind of mystery to all of this. Keep your eyes open.

What will be the next big 'new light'?
by yaddayadda init's been a while since the watchtower overlords made any serious doctrinal changes.
wts 'new light' seems to be somewhat cyclical, around every ten years or so.
it's been just over 10 years since the 1995 'this generation' change.

New Light:
King of North really is Russia.
The "head" of the beast that is slaughtered at Revelation 13 is The Soviet Union that was disolved in 1991
The two horned beast at end of Revelation 13 is Russia as the head that had its death blow healed. It appeared at first as a nice democratic lamb but is speaking like the authoritarian dragon.
Babylon the Great - is not false religion but rather the richest entity on earth - The USA.
The beast that was but is not is another description of the beast that appeared to have a death blow and revived. It is not the United Nations/League of Nations/World Court Hague.
The governments that are symbolized by the ten horns that "never" received a kingdom are the newly formed nations that used to be part of the Soviet Union. Belarus will unite with Russia to form a new entity that will give Putin the opportunity to continue ruling after his term expires in 2008. That leaves the remaining 10 nations of the CIS that Russia will convince to ally themselves with Russia in a new confederacy.
Putin is the "stern-faced king of Daniel 8. He is a "master of deception" (former head of FSB (New KGB). Putin became powerful but not by his own power. He was appointed by Yeltsin having never pursued politics. He is the king that brings many to ruin during a "freedom from care".
The anti-christ is not a class of people but an actual person - Putin.
The "witness work" is done. It has primarily been a witness to the 1/3 of the world that will be the center of the great tribulation. (Only a third of the vegetation is burned up, 1/3 of the waters turn to blood.)
Since the USA is Bablon the Great - Jehovah's Witnesses will sell all their possesions - pool their money and move their blood card carying members to South America/Mexico.
This will occur after they see the "disgusting thing" (Nuclear Weapons) destroy New York City. It will be a Russian bomb. The Russians will blame it on the terrorists. Their purpose will be to solidify their position in their former territory of the Soviet Union. They are tired of Rose, Orange, and other color revolutions. Exploding a bomb in New York will distract the USA from their adventures around the world.
There will be a couple of years during which USA will become suspicious that the Bomb was placed by the Russians. During that interval JW's will realize they have to leave. JW's will be able to continue to print the Watchtower because they were guided to move the printing out of Brooklyn Hts. The Russians will act preemptively to destroy the USA because of the retaliatory stance the USA will take. The Russians will never admit to having exploded the bomb in NYC. They will justify their final all out attack on the USA out of fear for their own survival. The whole world will wonder in admiration when the revived beast dominates the world.
The three horns that Putin "humiliates" is Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova. Russia has humiliated them by raising the price of natural gas. Europe won't say much about Russia anymore for fear that the gas they need from Russia will be cut off. Russia makes an example of Georgia, Ukraine & Moldova. Those countries recently formed an alliance called GUM to work together to move their countries towards Europe and the West. They will be disappointed when they see that the US and Europe don't have the will to help them. (Daniel 7:24)
The destruction of Babylon/USA starts the great tribulation. USA JW's will have taken refuge via the world wide brotherhood. Their brothers south of the Border will take them all in. They will prophesy in sack cloth during this period of distress. The whole world will get to know that these people survived the destruction of Babylon the Great. They will have demonstrated to the whole world the power of love and brotherhood. Many will join JW's when they see this unfold. The countries that have hardly been witnessed to will behold the spectacle and believe.
Putin will be angered at the idea people survived his destruction of the USA. He will become afraid that the world could convert to this wacky relgion. He knows the power of religious movements. He will put himself forward as the savior of man. After all didn't he rid the earth of the scourge of American Hegemony. He will force all nations to either exterminate JW's or he will call fire from heaven (nuclear weapons) to destroy cities in the uncooperative countries.
At that point God will intervene. He will destroy Putin and his armies.
"But as for the rest of the beasts their rulerships were taken away and there was a lengthening in life given to them for a time and a season" Dan. 7:12
Not all countries will be destroyed. They will continue to keep order as theocratic rule is gradually instituted earthwide. "And the kingdom and the rulership and the grandeur of the kingdoms under all the heavens were given to the people who are the holy ones of the Supreme One. Their kingdom is an indefinitely lasting kingdom, and all the rulerships will serve and obey them." For rulerships to serve and obey the holy ones there will have to be such structures that continue to exist.
The resurrection that takes place during the 1000 years following the great tribulation will include those who die during the great tribulation and the battle of armageddon. The only entities to receive the second death are the wild beast and false prophet. Those who died will have to prove loyal to the new government or else they too will receive the sedond death which if final.
"So brothers as always we have a lot to look forward to in the near future" (how many times have you heard that in the concluding comments at assemblies)

I knew one faithful old brother that never married. He was about 78 when that info came out. He immediately quit taking his heart medication and started eating great marbled steaks at his favorite restaurants. He was gone - real quick.

I would need extraordinary evidence. I would try to do anything he asked. I tend to be polite to everyone. I pay my taxes and obey governmental laws so why wouldn't I do what the ultimate authority tells me.
