The Watchtower's community responsibility idea is off. It conflicts with this principle:
Revelation 20:13
"And the sead gave up those dead in it and death and Hades gave up those dead in them and the were JUDGED INDIVIDUALLY according to THEIR deeds"
Justice will finally be done.

If any of you were arguing in good faith you would answer this question:
Are discharged members just thrown out into the street? Or are there arrangements that are made for as smooth a transition as possible. I don't know. Perhaps one of you experts on this subject can outline the procedure. Or maybe you don't know either. In which case why don't you call Bethel out of concern and find out how this all works.
I'm not going to do it. Because I don't have a problem with how the Watchtower runs its affairs. But for people to accuse the Watchtower of behaving unethically and immorally I think you ought to at least make a case for it based on actual policy.
To fail to do this suggests that you are arguing in bad faith.
You are afraid your negative opinions will be altered by reality. Sounds like the other side of the proverbial coin. -

The only possible deception I can think of is the repeated use of "Bethel Family". Although they use this with good intentions some people are bound to think that it REALLY is family. Families are thought of as having obligations to its members. But even families sometimes have to ask members to leave because they can no longer support them.

People start over again all the time. It probably keeps the mind agile and delays senility.
I too have suffered from failed expectations. But, it has taught me lessons I wouldn't have learned otherwise. It has toughened me. It has broadened my understanding of the human condition.
What's the point. Some of you are quite reasonable. Others are clearly irrational. So much on this board is a matter of "spin".
I will respond to reasonable argument. But if you want to "spin" it one way I'll simply "spin" it another way. It's mostly a matter of attitude. And your attitude is a personal choice.
Those who may be wavering need to see the disproportionate reactions. That way the "lurkers" can see the venom in your souls.
Let me also say that I am not on a crusade. I don't feel the need of rescuing any "lurkers". They are responsible for themselves, too. This has been somewhat of an experiment. It proves to me that most of you are desperate for a moving target.
There may be some here who see the waste of the endless "bitch" threads but you apparently don't have courage to say anything and instead prefer to click to something else.
So, HAPPY COMPLAINING!!!! ok? -

Sir82:
I agree it's unfortunate.
Is there some kind of document that they sign when they go to Bethel stating that there is some kind of life-care program? I don't know.
I attended a meeting for Bethel Service in 1963 at an international convention. Knorr presided over it. I decided after hearing him talk about Bethel that I could never fit in. I hate regimented life.
My Uncle was at Bethel in the 1930's and all I heard were the horror stories about work conditions.
So I never had to fill out any forms. If there were legally binding promises those should be pursued. But, if a person fell for some wild claim by a circuit overseer etc. then that's their own fault.
I have always realized that as a JW you are on your own when it comes to financial help. There is no Welfare Fund. If you are a special pioneer, circuit or district overseer, you can effectively beg. But an ordinary pioneer or publisher is lucky to get a free meal. -

Bethel is under no obligation to keep you there if they don't have work for you or if you represent a possible insurance liability. Maybe some kind of disaster is going to hit New York City in the near future. Only a hateful person would use such ordinary behavior to slam JW's. Kind of like Judas worrying about the money box.

According to Revelation the main target of the "plagues" is a third of the earth, a third of the men, a third of the sea. That's the third of the earth that have had a thorough witness. When the other two-thirds see God's protection of JW's they will have an opportunity to throw in their lot with them. This will require a complete re-orientation of JW interpretations. But such a scenario is quite possible based on scripture.

Captain Schmideo:
The first thing I thought when I saw this test was HOAX!
It turns out no one has seen an original of this test. The historical society that produced it has only a photo copy.
The photo copy (not the variations passed around the internet) say nothing of its being an 8th grade exam.
It's only purpose was to bad mouth teachers and public education.
People on this board love to engage in half-truths and shoddy evidence. After supposedly being "burned" by JW's don't you think you should expand your investigatory skills to ALL areas instead of focusing so much on JW's.
Look at question 4 in the Math section. Why would an 8th grader need to think in terms of running a school district? Could this really have been a test for a one room schoolmarm?
Did anybody else consider this a possible hoax. Why hasn't this thread gone in THAT direction? Especially after Schmideo posted?
Of course it still may not be a hoax. But it certainly smells like one. -

Jesus was a false prophet....
by dawg ini posted this on another thread, but if you read matthew 24, we see that jesus was indeed a false prophet... he doesn't give the day or hour of the end times but he says that this generation will not pass away until all these things occur... and what generation was he talking about?
he was talking to his diciples and telling them you will see this and that and thus and such....especially take a gander at matt 24: 33-36...jesus thought he was living in the last days and that he would come down from a cloud from the heavens...that stars would fall from the sky, and the like... just read it and tell me what you think.
i wonder if jesus was an essene, they thought they were living in the end of time, in fact they predicted a messiah would come during their days... .

Hermano: The kind of prophet that only resonates with a small group is a prophet that wants to be highly selective. Jehovah's Witnesses are mostly a small scale prototype of what will be the future of the Earth. When the world sees how things go for this special group they will be eager to follow their example.

Dawg:
A couple scriptures to consider on this subject:
Matthew 25:14-18
14"Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. 15To one he gave five talents[a] of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. 17So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. 18But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money.19 AFTER A LONG TIME the master of those slaves came...
Matthew 28:19,20
19Therefore go and MAKE DISCIPLES OF PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONS baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Jesus said it would be a LONG TIME and the work that he gave them to accomplish would take them to the VERY END OF THE AGE.
