Corollary to Minimus Meeting Poll: How Many of You ENJOYED Them?
by Room 215 inas i think back over nearly a half century of going to meetings that i can count on one hand the number of meetings that i could label as inspirational or in the least bit exhilirating.
i think many if not most jws regard meeting attendance as a duty, or test of their perseverance, a sort of installment pre-payment on their idyllic post-armageddeon homesite,.
was there ever a point in your life that you enjoywed and looked forward to going to the meetings?

What Is The Most Popular Belief That Suckers People To Become JW's?
by minimus inwhat do you think it is?

Minimus:
The idea of living in houses that others built and eating from vineyards you didn't plant is an often repeated theme in the Hebrew Scriptures. If you believe the Bible it is a matter of justice that those who are persecuted and therefore "last" will be "first" including the use of goods accumulated by those that God judges as wicked.
The Christian presumes that Jehovah judges righteously and anyone he destroys really deserves it.
So YES without shame I can say that for some this may be a Christian Attitude. Rather simple-minded but Christian never-the-less.
So now that I have cleared this up we can return to the point you are evading. You hate the Watchtower and play the game of "ain't it awful..." Well, "It" isn't awful to those who like it.

by Brummie inan update on bill bowen & his meeting with the wt.....this is an eyeopener and a disgrace on the watchtower:.

Why does everyone here preface their statments about Bill Bowen like he's some "special" person.
Bill, called me a child molester because I don't agree with the hysteria based laws that have put innocent fathers in jail.
The number one way to protect children is for parents to quit being careless about the people that hang around their kids.
Bill is not interested in protecting kids. The single theme that stands out is that he wants to hurt the Watchtower somehow. Good luck, Bill.

Will The Pope Just Die Already!
by xjw_b12 inin the newspaper today there was an article on pope john paul's visit to crotia.
this is his 100th pilramage, in his 83rd year.
in 2 weeks he is scheduled to go to bosnia, where i doubt he'll get as warm as a reception as he did in croatia.

Criticizing the pope is a fun jw/protestant thing to do. I think he is a great leader.
Have you read any of the pope's writing?
His writings are superb moral admonition.
It must be a challenge to be a leader of almost a billion people.

Why Witnesses are Zealous - a Dark Reason.
by metatron indespite all the fakery and non-credible statistics, there is still a lot of zeal in this organization.

Metatron:
Please don't get me wrong. Most of your posts are valuable because they give a secular basis for hope. But some of us had better start substantiating our statements or we are just building another unsupportable structure.
A little semantic self-discipline is needed.
Suppose the suicide, schizo, bi-polar, rate is higher among JW's than the general population. Is that a negative? Does that mean that these problems are caused by JWism? Or do these alienated people connect to something that may even help them "belong"? Aren't these the type of people that Jesus attracted?
Does Walmart exploit people who crave routine and structure? When I hire people I want those who are a little on the structured predictable end of the spectrum. Actually most people tend to be stable, boring, etc. otherwise society couldn't exist.

Hi Minimus:
Another serving of anti-JW propaganda?
That's why they say,"I want THAT mansion in the new system".
The implication of this statment is that ALL JW's feel that way. Who are "they"?
Some people like mansions some don't. And who says there is anything wrong with a desire for material things. Since we are "material" beings you can pretty much figure that just about everything we do has as its aim the satisfaction of some "material" need.

Are you saying that the zeal of JW's is any more bizarre than any other group of fanatics?
This is typical of a lot of the worthless threads on this board. Attack JW's doctrinally but quit attacking ordinary human behavior.
I think the promise this thread makes of "revealing" why JW's are zealous fails its stated purpose but certainly accomplishes it's "intended" purpose - to attackk JW's.
Don't you think that's kind of dark?

Religions Create Unsaleable Properties
by metatron inreligions create unmarketable properties.
i can well remember how they tried to find a way to get rid of the facility that.
oral roberts tried to build in oklahoma.. advertisements for "the bible speaks" property ran in the wallstreet journal after they lost a bundle in a court case.. likewise, i believe an auction was advertised to get rid of ambassador college ( armstrong's plain truth).. .

Metatron:
Good point. That's why the argument that Babylon The Great is Religion is bogus. The idea that governments are going to seize religious property to prop up failing economies is extremely naieve. Governments have more property right now then they can maintain.
Religion typically accounts for only 3% of the gross national product in most countries. Most of that money goes toward supporting missionary outposts, clergy salary, teachers and professional managers. Very little of their funds goes toward property and the actual maintenance of church property is a drain on their meagre budgets.
True some individuals have gotten rich off of religion. But we're not talking super-rich. When was the last time you heard a graduate couseled to go into "religion" cause that's where the money is.

What do you believe happens after death?
by JH in.
do you believe that the dead are really dead, unconscious, without life, like the watchtower taught us, or do you think that they are still alive, but in another world or another form?.
do you believe that you had a previous life before this one?.

I believe in Death after Life.
The resurrection always bothered me. Why should I be happy that a clone is made of me? And It gets to live forever. The little 5 year old "me" sitting in the kindergarten reading circle died 53 years ago.
Will my "resurrected clone" really have ALL my memories. Or will it just have enough memory to make all those who knew me think my clone is REALLY me. Since the real me can't verify objectively that all my memories are included in my clones memory this makes it possible for the clone maker to cheat a little on the details.
Then there is the situation where my body replaces all of its cells every "X" number of years. So I am already a clone of my earlier selves. I seem to have forgotten some things in my past and this doesn't seem to bother me. So my "clone" (resurrected person) may not be bothered by forgotten memories either.
So, the whole resurrection/ immortality, everlasting life THING seems to be rather egotistica.
