Upsidedown:
I would never want to work as hard as a circuit overseer for a one bedroom apartment over a kingdom hall and a buick. Lobster and steak? With boring strangers trying to act "theocratic".
Circuit overseers are freaks of nature.
i remember back 8 years ago when i left the organization the elders were being called "jehovah's special appointed ones".
i thought to myself that this was starting to become a clergy class.
i mean if that doesn't set you about the rest of the flock, i don't know what does.

Whatever happened to Focus. He did some important work here and on other forums.
i well recall the husband of my sister-law telling us the most earth shattering news.
this was around 1973 and 1975 fever was starting to take over many individuals.
with breathless excitement he told us the follow story.
This is worse than an urban myth. It sounds like a SUB-urban myth.

A worker is worthy of his wages. The problem with JW's is that they DON'T have a paid clergy.
The apostle Paul didn't ask for money. He bragged about that. He could only brag about that because he was the exception. What's wrong with having professional teachers. You get what you pay for. No paid teachers means hours of boring meetings.
The responsibilities of shepherding the flock are too burdensome to be peformed properly by part-time servants. The best teachers are side lined because they have to earn a living and take care of their families.
There is nothing unscriptural or inherently evil about having paid church workers. And I don't mean $100 per month . How about a living wage. The idea of - you receive free-give free doesn't mean truth is cheap. Think about that last "free ware" you tried to run on your computer.
this is a sort of parallel thread to the drunken noah thread.
the genesis account of angels 'materialising' and having sex with women always worried me as a witness.
in all animals, man included, the sex drive is hormonal.
Tertullian wrote that wearing jewelry was a practice started by the fallen angels. Supposedly that's how they enticed women to have sex with them.
It all comes down to this: some of the Bible is historical and some of the Bible is hysterical. It would be nice if , as fundamentalists (and JW's) believe, everything between the covers of the Bible was absolute truth that could form a solid basis for human behavior. Alas, we have to use our brains and sort out the garbage. We

Angels and Spirits were pre-scientific words describing aliens who were visitng the earth. Do aliens have "balls". Probably... everything that evolves to a level of sexual reproduction has organs that produce sex hormones. So these creatures with an advanced technology were using the earth just like the Japanese use Thailand.

i noticed after being a jw for a while that many members of my congregation were having to take antedepressants.
(i counted at least 30 out of 100).
after a few years i too began to have bouts of depression and problems with anxiety.
Depression is good. It means the body is starting to assert itself. Depression is a door to authenticity. Unfortunately some don't make it through the door. There probably isn't enough depression among JW's.
i will defer the details of this gem to blondie when she sinks her teeth into the wt study articles scheduled for march 21-april 3. until then sample this:.
watchtower 15 feb 2005 "christians - be proud of who you are!
" (pg 12-16) .
Just saying the end is coming "soon" is not sufficient to convince people to set aside their life plans to preach. While it may be true that you don't need a target date to live a decent life you DO need a target date if you want people to urgently preach. All of the dates have been jettisoned. What do they expect people to do?
Isn't one of the end-signs that the love of the greater number would cool off? I think the official JW interpretation of that scripture is that the world's love would cool off - not the congregations. But the world supposedly never had love and that's why the true religion would be known for their love. It does appear that love among JW's has cooled off.
Supposedly God has produced a nation. Either something extraordinary has to be done with that nation or it will collapse. What are your bets?
.
i am still hunting for spiritual truth in some form, heavens sake i am even considering checking out the mormons (morons).
anyone have a suggestion for a religion to pacify my natural human longing for acceptance (and or) this or that, you know what i mean?
If there is a God or any entity or collective entity that wants to talk to humans about surviving on this planet then they ought to get in touch with humans. Otherwise we are on our own.
Religion is old science. So in the mean time pay attention to the "latest science". That's the best humans can do until something better comes along.
I am still curious about Bible prophecy. There seems to be something to it.
someone informed me today that in two months time there will be a "special announcement" to all congregations.
everyone must be present at the kingdom hall for it.
my elders already know what it is, but won't tell me.
There is a weird coincidence this year. Surely the Watchtower is are aware of it. That's their business.
Jesus referred to a specific trigger event in connection with the "great tribulation" at Matt 24:15
"There fore when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place (Mark 13 "standing where it ought not" Luke 21 "Jerusalem surrounded by armies" ) then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains. .. for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the worlds beginning."
The "chosen" supposedly survive the tribulation by heeding this warning. The tribulation is not the event that is referred to in Matt 24:36 "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows". The day and hour that nobody knows is the appearance of the Son of Man.
The end of the book of Daniel (12:11) is a prophecy that requires the counting of 1290 days that end with the "placing of the disgusting thing that is causing desolation".
If you count forward 1290 days forward from September 11, 2001 you arrive at March 24 or 25 2005. March 24 is the memorial. March 25 is the most solemn day in the Christian calendar - Good Friday.
So what? So what. Is it a coincidence? Time will tell. But it IS weird.
Well you don't have to count down long 63 days = 9 weeks.
Maybe they are arranging something that will look significant if something DOES happen but without being so specific that it will look bad if nothing happens.
The other thing interesting about this years memorial is that the Jews celebrate the passover April 25 because of adjusting their calendar.
