  Do You "Believe" In The Bible At All?

  If you believe the Bible is Gods word you are taking on an impossible responsibility.

  You are presuming that just because a being does something miraculous that that being is neccessarily what it claims to be.

  The Bible says the Devil transforms himself into an angel of light. Well if the Devil can pose why can't any other entity impersonate God.

  We are only human. Somewhere in this universe there is probably some advanced civilization that could use some wonderful technology to put on a magic show. And because of this you have to believe them or die? How do you know you are not being pacified for the round-up and transport to the slaughter house. We've got some valuable protein in our flesh.

  Come on.

  Fortunately, miracles are kind of rare to the point of disappearing so there is no need to believe in much.

  Isn't the "usual/normal" way to deal with doubt -getting more accurate knowledge?

  Notice that paragraph didn't say the "slave" WOULD provide more information. It said they MAY.

  Then again they MAY NOT.

  I have received letters in response to questions 25 years ago that said they MAY provide information that would clear up my questions.

  So far - NOTHING.

  Unfortunately abortion is a cruelty that would require unenforceable laws to prevent it. Morning after pill seems least objectionable. Partial birth abortion appears to be rather heinous.

  The state should offer incentives such as monetary compensation to a mother who decides NOT to abort her baby.

  Wouldn't all mothers claim they will abort their infant just to get benefits? Not likely. But so what. Isn't it worth it?

  I am against capital punishment but I believe it is the right of a person with a terminal illness to decide on a dignified exit.

  What are some Watchtower rules and customs that have no biblical basis?

  there are a lot of customs that jws cant do without any clear scriptural backing (off course there is always some infered scriptural principle to back up what they say) .

  when i was a teenager my study conductor disciplined me for burning incense, reading me some mosaic laws that obviously do not apply to christians.

  though this was a personal opinion not a watchtower ruling.

  If Schizophernics hear voices quite often is it strange that the brain can't do this at least occasionally for so called normal people?

  Hearing is our sense that is closely linked to fear. Infants display the startle reflex when there is a loud noise. The startle reflex occurs also when a child suddenly is dropped. (Thanks to the sadistic behaviorists we have a lot of documented information on what freaks out infants)

  If you are agitated or you unconsciously match some sensory input to a possible danger it would seem you might have some reaction.

  As for the calm feeling that washes over you. Meditation (relaxation response) is a systematic way of inducing this state. It is usually achieved through concentration on rhythmic breathing. It works for me.

  If God wants to say something, and he made us, he ought to use the route he gave us for that purpose.

  It appears that a lot of people on this board share a lot of the same delusions the JW's have.

  For our Biblical experts: Artaxerxes reign began in 474 BCE?

  a question for leolaia, peaceful pete, narkissos, and/or any others who might know this:.

  in this week's "what does the bible really teach" book study lesson, the appendix that is covered talks about the famous "70 weeks of years" prophecy of daniel 9:25. the society claims that the "69 weeks" runs from 455 bce to 29 ce, coinciding with jesus' baptism.. they derive the 455 bce date as "the 20th year of the reign of artaxerxes".

  they claim that "historians agree that" artaxerxes began his reign in 474 bce.. i did a quick google search, and found absolutely nothing even remotely hinting at 474 bce as a beginning date for anyone.

  It's hard to take this prophecy seriously because there seems to be no evidence in the Bible that they considered it a significant proof that Jesus was the Messiah. If it were indeed true wouldn't Paul have explained it in the book of Hebrews? It would have been pretty convincing evidence and we wouldn't be trying to figure it all out now. The dates would have been verified 2,000 years ago when there may still have been some documents to support it.

  I've having a hard time dealing with the present time in my life

  i don't have any problems that i am dealing with but i can't seem to enjoy the present.

  everywhere i go i recall the past life with my family when i was young and they were alive.

  i remember the houses we called on when i was a jw with my dad and mother, cousins etc.

  Try 50 mg (daily) of DHEA for one month. (Available at Walmart)

  I don't reccomend taking it for more than 30 days because it IS a hormone. You might want to take a week to get off of it. Half dosage for a week.

  I do this 3 or four times per year. It gives me enough momentum to take on the projects I'm interested in.

  Everyone is different but its worth a try.

  I tend to think of Holy Spirit like Budhist think of Chi.
