as her mother you have every right to say no. i hope you are successful. i wrote in another thread that my daughter will be the first person in my family allowed to choose. i view it as a gift. an 11 year old cannot get married so such a commitment so young is wrong especially when baptism is considered more important than marriage.

Question for Current or Former Elders (baptism of minors)
by Michelle365 ini have joint custody of my two children with my ex husband who is still raising the kids on his time as jws.
my 11 year old claims she is getting baptized at the next assembly.
i have heard that i can write a letter to the boe and say that i oppose her getting baptized before she is 18. is that true?

Baffling comment by my JW parents about non-witness funeral
by joyfulfader inmy parents attended the funeral of an elderly family member today.
being out of state i was unable to attend.
i asked how it went and was told that "worldly" people don't care enough about anyone to mention anything personal.

My parents attended the funeral of an elderly family member today. Being out of state I was unable to attend. I asked how it went and was told that "worldly" people don't care enough about anyone to mention anything personal. They stated they were horrified by the cookie cutter talk and couldn't believe not much was said about her personally. Having been to many JW funerals I politely pointed out that JW funerals are an outline and are not personalized. Weeeellllll....that hit a nerve. I heard the indignation in the voice and then the retort that JW funerals have an outline but they personalize it and center it on the person. I then calmly stated that I had never been to such a memorial and moved on. Apparently when you are "in" the recruitment edge of the talk is not even noticed. I have to keep my mouth shut to placate my family but wow. That was so ridiculous to hear.

Ex-JW Scholarship
by enigma1863 ini think if there isnt one already, there should be a scholarship for ex-jws to get a college education.
i dont know exactly what would be the qualifications to win the scholarship or where the money would come from..

I remember an experience given years ago about a Mormon who had decided to become a witness. That person was studying at Brigham Young University on a full scholarship. The speaker then denounced the university and the Mormon church for retracting the person's scholarship for religious differences and criticized the university for not allowing the person to use their own powers of reason in deciding their beliefs. I remember the scathing tone the speaker had when saying in effect how dare they revoke a deserved scholarship over a change in religious belief. The student was not asked to leave the university, he just lost his scholarship because he no longer qualified for it.

Its just pleasant and joyful news for a change. Does something being newsworthy need the prerequisite of being ominous and/or disturbing? I say embrace the good and "warm, fuzzy" news as a diversion from the doom and gloom so often presented during the average news program. There will always be dreadful things and atrocities being committed globally. Let's embrace the birth of a child :)

always apostasy?
by losingit inso i've been reading many posts and threads of people's experiences leaving the jw fold.
i get the impression that many here were df'd or da'd due to apostasy.
is there anyone here that found out ttat after being df'd for a reason other than apostasy?

I was publicly reproved for something other than apostasy and it was actually because I was not disfellowshipped because of the other person's involvement and his "connections", I started to really look into my ever present doubts. After despicable treatment during this time (including the horribly degrading and humiliating questions that elders swear they dont ask...hahahaha) and subsequent times I realized I had had enough. It was a lightbulb moment and have never returned and have zero doubts or guilt. I am now for all intents and purposes, agnostic.

Who has had their District Convention seats stolen by other Witnesses?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inover the years i have had to deal with this problem personally and as a attendant covering my section at various convention centers.
i had people who were suppose to be decent jehovah witnesses pick up all the books, bags and coolers belonging to brothers and sisters who arrived at the appropriate time and picked them up and dumped them all at the end of the seating row.
so here is what goes down, the sister runs up to me panicking and saying "dear brother, i had all those seats reserved for my family and now look!

It was the circuit assembly at which I got baptized...I had placed my books and my bag with hair dryer and bathing suit and towel in the row reserved for baptismal candidates. When I went to sit down it was gone. The attendants searched and during the baptismal talk found my things had been moved 6 rows back to the middle of the row "supposedly" because the items in question were in the reserved baptismal seating. No one bothered to ask why the average attendee would have a hair dryer and bathing suit. Turns out the people who ended up sitting in my original seat weren't even baptismal candidates.
Now I wish my stuff hadn't been found...perhaps I may have procrastinated in actually going thru with it.

2013 Drama: "Show Yourself Attentive"
by breakfast of champions inthis is the first of three "dramas" this dc, and i have to say, it was one of the weirdest dramas ever.
i won't go through all the details.
maybe someone else wants to throw in their 2c.. it starts out with two men standing on the "beach" talking, but it took me awhile to figure out what in the hell was going on.

I just watched it. The whole thing and it was so irritating. I canNOT imagine sitting thru another convention ever again...
