When I was still in I went to a KH in the islands. They were extremely nice and took us to lunch and then the airport on another island. Small cong but very very nice. I don't think just being a visiting JW makes them drop you, it's only if u decide to stay or get baptized. I thing then you r considered able to fend for yourself and let loose. It is rarely about friendship sadly. I don't miss that place.

Going to Kingdom Hall for first time
by InChristAlone insince my family is out of town, and i am alone this weekend, i have decided to attend this once to see these things for myself.
have no fear, i have absolutely no interest in joining.
my goal is simply to better understand how to reach those who are on the inside, and i feel i could better do that by observing it.

Baffling comment by my JW parents about non-witness funeral
by joyfulfader inmy parents attended the funeral of an elderly family member today.
being out of state i was unable to attend.
i asked how it went and was told that "worldly" people don't care enough about anyone to mention anything personal.

When my husband died suddenly when I was 30 they spent maybe 3 minutes talking about the person he was. I don't think I have ever forgiven them...

jws- I am so sorry for the loss of your dad...I know that feeling like a disappointment for not being a JW is hard to deal with. My parents make me feel that way subliminally. I now think of myself as an agnostic but...IF there is a God, I completely and totally feel that he can see what this cult has done and the pain it's caused. I believe in every part of my being that IF there is a god who cares, you will have your dad again and he WILL be proud of you because you didnt live a lie. I am glad the reception afterward remembered him appropriately...
I think if there is a god he would be loving and accepting and forgiving like Jesus. If there is no caring god then we are all in the same boat so to speak...

Although i am a fader, i have changed my will to specify that i do not want a JW funeral. I in no way want to be used as a recruitment tool upon my death. i already feel bad enough for preaching to the countless people i did over the years as a publisher and long time pioneer. I wont be used ever again.

I have such a hard time when witnesses criticize and condemn others without looking in the mirror. My dad gave many memorial talks as an elder. I last went to a JW funeral for a child and not one thing...not ONE thing was mentioned about the child's personality or the amazing things he was able to accomplish in his short life. Sad thing is is that the "loving" elder who gave said talk and his oh so "loving" pioneer wife couldn't even visit the family the day he died because they had parts on the meeting and couldn't possibly shirk their "spiritual" duties.
Witnesses live in a self absorbed fantasy world...blinded robots even when people need them the most.

Question for Current or Former Elders (baptism of minors)
by Michelle365 ini have joint custody of my two children with my ex husband who is still raising the kids on his time as jws.
my 11 year old claims she is getting baptized at the next assembly.
i have heard that i can write a letter to the boe and say that i oppose her getting baptized before she is 18. is that true?

as her mother you have every right to say no. i hope you are successful. i wrote in another thread that my daughter will be the first person in my family allowed to choose. i view it as a gift. an 11 year old cannot get married so such a commitment so young is wrong especially when baptism is considered more important than marriage.

My parents attended the funeral of an elderly family member today. Being out of state I was unable to attend. I asked how it went and was told that "worldly" people don't care enough about anyone to mention anything personal. They stated they were horrified by the cookie cutter talk and couldn't believe not much was said about her personally. Having been to many JW funerals I politely pointed out that JW funerals are an outline and are not personalized. Weeeellllll....that hit a nerve. I heard the indignation in the voice and then the retort that JW funerals have an outline but they personalize it and center it on the person. I then calmly stated that I had never been to such a memorial and moved on. Apparently when you are "in" the recruitment edge of the talk is not even noticed. I have to keep my mouth shut to placate my family but wow. That was so ridiculous to hear.
