  jesus was not born on december 25??????

  what is the reasoning behind this belief?

  Am i right in thinking you are a new Witness? I read one of your posts somewhere else where you said you'd only been to 4 meetings.

  If you are wondering why Christians celebrate Christmas on Dec 25 when it's not Jesus' birthday, there's a fewc things to consider.

  Firstly, perspective is important in all these things.

  You will not find a commited Christian anywhere who believes that Jesus was born on Dec 25. Contrary to the Society, they are not that ignorant.
  No Christian tries to support Dec 25 as his date of birth. It is simply the date chosen to commemorate his birth, about 1700years ago by Constantine.

  This is where your perspective comes into it. JWs believe that because the date was the old festival of Saturnalia, then all Christmas celebrations are of Pagan origin and you are still worshipping the rebirth of the sun.

  The Christian perspective is that Constantine (whatever you may think of him) at one fell swoop,abolished a pagan festival and turned peoples attention from sun worship to focusing on the fact that Jesus Christ the Son of God was born in to the world to ultimately die for mankind. He never said it was a historical fact that Jesus was born on Dec 25 he just set that date aside for people to memorialise Jesus birth.Not a bad thing in my view.

  What a pretty summer so far!

  i don't know how the weather is everywhere else, but here in dixie, it's been the first bearable summer in as long as i can remember.. it seems as though mother nature took a rest this year, worn out from her years of relentlessly bombarding us with intense heat.

  for so long, it seemed as though the spring and summer months, even october, would bring an onslaught of 100+ degree temperatures with record high humidity and only enough rain to turn our evenings into saunas.. then this year came.

  so far, the temperature has topped out in the very low 90's and the humidity just hasn't had the enthusiasm of years past.

  Hi Expatbrit!

  Yeah it has been exceptionally hot here for a change, but we can't cope with folk moaning about it being too hot when we spend most of the time freezing our knackers off.

  Meanwhile some things never change. The Aussies have just beaten us at cricket again and won the Ashes with two tests to spare. And before any Aussies on-line start complaining about it being too hot down under..... go away, we're not interested!!!

  Stop moaning guys. We'd kill for a summer like that. It usually chucks it down all the time here in England, although this year its not been too bad. Hearing you moan about it being too hot wont get any sympathy from us Brits. Its enough to make Englishman use the F-word. oops sorry wrong thread!! Thats another quid he's won!

  How many christian on this db

  non.rough estimate fine.

  i sure like the comradery here for ex"s. but wonder why so many here leave their belief in god altogether.. what is it that caused disbelief?

  Hi Gumby!

  I'm new myself on the db. I left 2years ago. I'm still a Christian. I found all the answers to the things I couldn't fathom as a JW in fairly mainstream Christianity.

  Do you have a specific point that you're struggling with or are you just curious about the breakdown %wise off believers/nonbelievers here?

  Tell you one thing though. It's fun here isn't it. Mostly friendly regardless of beliefs. I like that. If friendship is dependant on having exactly the same beliefs we should just lock ourselves in a small room and enjoy our own company!

  I take it Rex, that you are a still a Witness, forgive me if I'm wrong. I don't wish you any ill at all, and I don't know the guys who posted those comments well enough to defend them as I 'm new to the board as you can see. But I totally agree that those comments were very distasteful and way out of line. I am surprised no-one said anything before. I think that if the society said anything similar about any ex-JWs there'd be uproar on this board.

  I'll apologise for the comments.

  You're probably right dmouse!

  Actually that's why I had to leave.... Its obligatory to be tone deaf, unable to hold a note, to sing with no passion or feeling or volume, and in the case of those who wrote and especially the damn pianist that recorded the kingdom "songs" not to be able to read music or keep time! As i could do all the above they said I obviously didn't have the identifying marks of a true Christian!

  Does anyone remember "The Ressurection JOY" (JOY!!!! thats JOY!!!)

  Hi all, I'm new but I've been reading you all for 2 years now.

  I'm Pubsinger because, guess what, I sing in pubs! And in Working Mens and Social clubs. Englishman will know all about them because the beer is cheaper there!!

  I make a reasonable living playing my guitar and singing covers of other peoples stuff. It beats working anyway!

  And it didn't half cause a stink when I was a Witness, but not as big a stink as when I was in a 4 piece busking band with other brothers.
  We were making a fortune with our street entertainment. I was a Ministerial Servant ant Reg. Pio. at the time. The Elders absolutely freaked! They wrote to the Society to get us shut down. Amazingly they wrote back and said it was a matter of conscience.

  So 12 years later and still singing!
