  As a j-dub, how did you react to christian music?

  so i'm riding in a car the other day with a j-dub.

  on the radio, i have it turned to a station that plays the occasional christian rock type music.

  a song comes on that has lyrics.

  Here in the UK "Christian Music" as a genre isn't available in secular music stores and it doesn't get ANY airplay on national or local radio.

  So you can't buy Jars of Clay or Michael W Smith or CeCe Winans next to Green Day, Eminem and Celine Dionne.

  Hence I'd never heard any "Christian Music" until I left the JWs. LMAO at the hands over the ears bit, and you are right to deduce they are insane

  As for "Kingdom Music" I would struggle to categorise it under "music" as the pianist on the tapes certainly couldn't read music well. If you follow the music to the kingdom songs you'll see that the pianist was playing the tunes by ear as he/she doesnt follow the music. No higher than a grade 4 musician I'd say

  Have any of you seen the movie "The Village"?

  about a month ago a movie was on cable called "the village".

  it was a freaky movie, and i was a little uncomfortable watching it, but nothing ever happened that made me turn the channel.

  turns out there is quite a twist in the end which explained the freakyness.

  Basically I guessed the twist.

  I go with the family.

  Ozzie and Little Toe's comments sum me up really (except the bit about the virgins - we still have them). And whoever it was who said that their children don't dread going to church.

  I left JWs because the evidence showed that they couldn't be God's EXCLUSIVE organisation, not because their errors changed my belief in God.

  He'd have probably chosen to go like that if he could.

  Totally barmy tho.

  In the end he goes in a freak accidental incident as opposed to a madcap moment gone wrong.

  Anyone see the time he got bitten by a deadly snake he picked up at night in the middle of the road. He got in the truck and they drove like lunatics to the nearest medical centre over an hour away. You could tell he was sh*&%ing himself!

  im taking a new testament class at a local four-year college.

  I bought a book a few years ago called "How to choose a Bible version"

  It had a chart section where they compared lots of translations on lots of criteria which included, accuracy of translation, consistency of translation, ease to read, acknowledged if it was a paraphrase etc.

  NWT was listed. It scored reasonably well on consistency but pretty poorly on accuracy of translation!

  They said it merited acknowledgement for the consistent use of "Jehovah" in rendering the Divine name in the OT. But scored it "nil point" (a la Eurovision song contest, non Europeans -don't ask) for using "Jehovah" in the NT.

  They said it was fairly easy to read but was (interestingly I thought) not in anyway the best as far as ease and clarity went (try telling a JW THAT!)

  So they didn't totally trash it or ignor it. I think they scored it 4/10. I'll check when I get home.

  the phrase is 'the truth is out there' and when we stumble across it by accident, it can't help but make a person wonder what else they never knew, and how pieces of the jigsaw gradually begin to fit together as we search for the 'truths of history'.. i love whitby.

  whitby is a small town in the north yorkshire moors.

  it sits on the coast with the magnificent ruins of whitby abbey dominating the sky line.

  If just a SMALL part of Whitby is "Blackpoolified" it cant be "Blackpoolified"

  To do that it would have to be miles and miles of tacky tat and bad taste.

  the radio was used extensively in the 1920's and 1930's.

  by 1933 the society was using 403 radio stations to broadcast bible lectures.

  later, the use of the radio was largely replaced by increased house-to-house visits by witnesses with portable phonographs and recorded bible talks.
