The radio was used extensively in the 1920's and 1930's. By 1933 the Society was using 403 radio stations to broadcast Bible lectures. Later, the use of the radio was largely replaced by increased house-to-house visits by Witnesses with portable phonographs and recorded Bible talks.

Well, with the way that they critisize others who use those methods of evangelizing they can't very well do that themselves, hm?

I think that it is becuase it is more difficult to brainwash people. Also, one of their greatest ploys is getting people to the meetings and then love bombing them. You can't do that over the radio and TV. They need more salesmen too.

    Just my two cents.

It's just funny how they brag about using it in the 30's,

then they stop and don't give a reason for stopping.

I listen to christian radio broadcasts alot on my way to from work.

I think because they know they will never hold up to public scrutiny. They would be forced to address issues they would rather keep total control over like children dieing for lack of blood and false date setting to name a few.

Public or network media would mean they would have to play fair and look normal, something the GB can't do.

They had tv commercial just after 911. I remember watching it and thining it was a Mormon commercial, until they said something about the "watchtower, bible and tract society." Anyone else remember this one?

There was a thread about this a few months ago. I found it very interesting and will post the link if I can find it. (Might have been Terry - dang, that man has a long list of threads and tons of posts...)

Here's a link for my post for last Friday, July 14th, 2006.

This was on local access cable t.v., Cox cable in Rhode Island.

It was a taped "infomercial" about the j.w. "religion", with an advertisement imbedded in the show at the end, for the convention that was held last weekend in Amherst(?) Mass.

The name of the program is called "Now's the Time". There ARE some inconsistencies that I will address.

I taped the program, and plan to review it and comment on it soon, but I haven't had a chance to sit down and go through the program yet. It was taped, and therefore didn't have a phone line open for questions from the public.

I will try to "critique" it this week, and give you a review.

Sometimes my brain fires on all cylinders. (Odd that my car has been dead for 3 days - but my brain is working.....)

Here's Terry's thread on same/similar topic. I like the discussion:

The JW's were run off the radio in the 1930's when Rutherford started attacking other religions by name. Stations refused to provide or sell them air time and that is one of the reasons they left the radio air waves. The JW's could not now get air time on any Christian TV or radio network unless they changed their ways about other Christian religions being false and discouraging loyalty to the government. It would go against Romans 13 for most Christians about paying loyalty and respect to the Government.
I'm sure they could get on cable access channels but the viewership on those stations is almost nothing to compared to other media outlets.
Besides in America a religious society painting God as a evil entity ready to strike down non-JW's will not go very far with a educated population.
