  I spoke to a member of the HLC for 2 hours on Saturday.......

  i mentioned on a recent post about an elder who had asked to visit with me on saturday...........he was a friend of my dad's for years.

  so he came on saturday morning and we spoke for several hours in a pleasant and friendly manner but discussing a lot of jw related subjects.. so in light of the recent death of a young jw mum i thought i would share with you all some of the comments made by this elder who is one of 5 elders on the hlc for our area.. he was quite proud of the work he does helping both jws facing the situation of blood transfusion and his dealing with the medical staff involved.

  i told him i would have a blood transfusion now if it was deemed necessary and that i would battle for my son to have one, who is nearly 15, despite the fact that his father has bought him as a jw.

  You should have asked why ACCEPTING blood fractions is a matter of conscience when GIVING blood isn't.

  It is IMPOSSIBLE (from a JW perspective) to use blood fractions without SOMEONE breaking "God's Law"

  It's like accepting a set of wheels from a stolen car . . .

  and last I checked that wasn't a matter of conscience . . .

  If what he says is true - hey let's assume it is - why did the WT disassociate themselves within days of this news breaking?

  Why not just present these "facts", hold their head up high and carry on?

  Their actions reveal the truth behind their involvement.

  THEY DIDN'T WANT JW's TO KNOW.

  WHEN THEY WERE FOUND OUT THEY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN DAMAGE LIMITATION.

  News from the Circuit Assembly

  it has been our local circuit's two day assembly this weekend.

  it takes place at bristol assembly hall.

  from what i recall seating capacity is about 1200. .

  How many congs make up your circuit?

  700 is very small for a CA.

  Here in the UK "credit card" is often used interchangably with "debit card" so they wouldn't necessarily be encouraging people to "borrow" to donate. Not that I'm defending them!!

  You've been looking at our quiz banter . . .

  Sweetpea and the Podlets came to stay with Pub and Mrs Pubsinger (who doesn't post here) in Halifax last week - and The Pubsinger Family went to stay with Besty and Sweepy in London about 6 weeks ago.

  That said Sweetpea is my discovery of 7 years here just think - if we'd never left the dubs we'd never have met. And now we're all free! (I think Besty will let me have that one)

  hahahaha - wondered about them two myself.

  I choked on my glass of red when I saw this thread . . . still wiping the screen!!!

  I have seen prayers read at district convention!

  yes, i like to gaze around during prayers, especially big ones.

  twice now i have seen the chairman or concluding speaker finish the song, approach the speaker stand, say "let's approach god in prayer," and at the last second pull out a index card size of paper with writing on it.

  he kind of cups his hand over as he lays in on top of the song book.

  I agree that "written prayers" goes against the JW grain and their long held position.

  However I would have to say that Christians in general would wonder what all the fuss was about.

  All this "repeating a written prayer can't be sincere or heartfelt" is just another JW mindset mostly from a position ignorance.

  Why wouldn't repeating or meditating on words someone had spent a great deal of time preparing be a valid prayer.

  I would have thought that something that touched you so much that you wanted to repeat it would be worthy of a considered and heartfelt "Amen"
