A truly mind boggling experience
by Iamallcool ini dated someone earlier tonight and she looks pretty good, she invited me over to her home.
she has a very good salary(she has phd degree) but i do not understand why she chose to live in a white trash mobile home park.
i asked her how long she is going to live there, she said she just signed 2 year lease last month.

Yep massive cultural differences here.
Acceptable gun culture (and knife culture - although I thought it was illegal to carry a knife in the US too) by normal responsible citizens is a totally foreign concept to us in the UK.
But I am not surprised at all that some carried a gun secretly as JWs seeing as it is legal and 'acceptable'
I am surprised, now that I think about it, that this is the first time I think we've seen this on the forum. -

Having a huge disagreement over a very petty matter. HELP!!
by Magwitch inmy best friend and i have come to blows over such a petty thing.
i would love to get the input of other people on this matter.

That said I can't understand why you and your best friend have come to blows over this??
You didn't borrow your best friend's rum . . .
And I wouldn't have thought your best friend would have minded! -

If you were looking after the cats for 3 weeks why didn't you just replace the rum before she got back? Then there would have been no problem and no reason to leave a note . . .
But I agree with those who think that plenty of people would be upset with you doing that.
Although I personally wouldn't be as long as I knew you well. And if I didn't I wouldn't ask you to look after my pets!!

Hi Twisty.
Like several others here I have great reservations about your chosen statement. In fact I would go as far as to say that i think you have chosen one of the worst lines possible
Your line hits at the very core of their control. You can't just "take a break from the organisation". And "researching the Bible for yourselves" is a big NO NO as far as their radar is concerned.
Yep you might as well just buy that red flag and wave it high . . .
I wouldn't be saying anything at all. Just drift and fade . . .
You can't reason with them at all. You can't provide them with a big contradictory truth. Even if you prove you're right, you'll be wrong.
Drift and Fade.

What really ended the book study in private homes?
by Alfred init's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.
although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...
but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?

I'm not sure that I buy the 'liability' line.
As usual JWs think that they are unique in everything they do but in reality they are not. Lots of churches have housegroups. And surprise, surprise, they think that they are very important because they are where friendships and relationships are made. Of course they aren't regulated like the JW version was and they are exactly the places where things are discussed properly and objections raised etc.
But I have never heard of a church having any concerns about liability. Never. And these are churches who do carry out proper checks on their people and do adhere to health and safety regulations. But I've not heard of any worries about liability.
