In the Church of England this is called the Parish Share.
The diocese calculates an amount based on church attendance and previous contributions. The congregation tries to meet it. They do get a full time minister for their money tho!

The Circuit Overseer's mid week talk
by stuckinarut2 inso the mid week talk from the co is making me feel ill..... he is going on about all the wonderful adjustments in the org and teachings, and just how clear and understandable they are....and saying that these truths make us more convinced that we have the truth!.
and that all these changes are evidence of love for the people in our territory... the truth is now so much clearer and easier to understand..... oh come on!!!!!!!!.
aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!.

It would be great to hear someone say to a circuit overseer what The Searcher said lol
'Oh it's great all these new adjustments. I really appreciate the changes in ending the district overseer arrangement. I wonder how soon before the FDS gets new light about circuit overseers and just communicates directly with local elders?'Hilarious.

Is my clinging on to a belief in a Creator doing me any harm?
by KateWild ini use the word clinging, as i feel that is what i am doing.
as far as my knowledge of science, namely chemistry is concerned, i am satisfied there is evidence of a creator.
i am happy to believe this.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread but I would recommend doing some study of faith, god, religion and belief away from this forum and without any JW bias or perspective.
JW 'rules of belief' and even 'rules of interpretation' are far removed from what is out there.
Basically it is a fundamentalist approach. JWs and Ex-JWs tend to have little idea or concept of anything else and hence only argue and reason from this angle.
My short answer to the question is no -

governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

In reality it was always the CO who did this anyway. The 'Bethel approval' was just a front.
Totally agree with the liability observations tho.
Will be very interested to see someone like Candace Conte's legal team target an individual CO. And then use this correspondence to still sue the WT. -

Blood transfusions are all but officially a 'conscience matter' but if done 'brazenly' could get you in trouble.
What's the low down on that?

i'm a christian man whos divorced with 2 kids.
we're in love and seriously want to be together.

If you let your kids go anywhere near a kingdom hall you are out of your mind. You have no IDEA of the indoctrination that goes on. If she wants to go, well that's an adult making an adult decision. But keep your children well away.
If I were the kids mother I would make a huge issue about the kids going there.
Sorry to be so blunt but you can't possibly understand. I'm totally with Villagegirl on that one. -

Need to find those Km or Wt articles encouraging all to read the old publications!
by stuckinarut2 ini have been dropping comments to a few re some classic old beliefs and teachings etc... and when asked "where did you read that, or how come you are saying such and such?
" i have replied "well, you remember we have often been told to study and research our old 'theocratic history' and 'old gems' of material?....
now though i have been challenged to prove where this has been printed!.

People 'mark' the thread so that they can find it again for reference, presumably by looking through threads they've posted on.
I've never really understood why they don't just bookmark the page in their browser but hey ho

If Someone Mocks Jehovah's Witnesses Does That Bother You?
by minimus inevery once in a while i hear people purposely make fun of jws, calling them hovas, jeehoovers, etc.
i don't think that's a good way to reach them..
-

Nope doesn't bother me at all. I suppose in truth it depends if by JW you mean the WT or individuals. I definitely don't have a problem with mocking the WT. Individual JWs I'd decide on merit(!)
Sometimes it feels like there's this unwritten rule that even if you leave you still have to show some respect. Almost as if they still make the rules and everyone has to follow them. Well I'm afraid that i don't play by their rules at all. They don't have a problem mocking other religions, denominations or individual believers. Assembly programmes are full of accounts poking fun at non-JWs.
