All of the above.

can anyone tell me why the society has put their own bent on daniel 1:1 & 2:1?
the only decent reference why, is in the 1946 equipped book.. is it only cos the wt hasn't realised that daniel was using the assession system at dan 1:1 (and the rest of his book) and jeremiah was using the non-assession at jer.
25:1 (and the rest of his letter)??.
All of the above.

1) does anyone have any explanation as to why so many/most/all of the people in the awake magazines always say *name changed* or the letters from readers in the back only give first name/last name initial & country?.
wouldn't it be more interesting to know the names of the "brothers & sisters" and maybe what congregation they were from?.
i found this to strike me as being made up.. 2) does anyone know anything about if it was john the apostle who wrote the book of revelation?
PP.
The one thing you certainly will find no evidence of is that throughout history there was a thread of "true" believers who essentially believed what JW's do today, and who passed this "truth" on through the generations.
Remember what Russell supposedly did? He decided to ignore what the religions around him had taught him (passed down to him?) and start with a blank page and a bible. Great idea but unfortunately a massive task. By refusing to accept the beliefs which had been passed down in the 1900 years since Christ he only succeeded in making the errors that had been made, considered, debated and then rejected thousands of years before.
All of the groups that the society sometimes infer were JW forerunners such as the Waldenses, actually believed what the mainstream Christian churches do today.

Peacepipe.
I also went down the same research line as you on Christian history.
I suggest that you carry on because it does help to get your head straight. I found the most interesting thing was that often the Society had taken actual events and twisted the back grounds and motives behind them. Classic examples of this are Constantine and the Council of Nicea.
You should be able to get a one volume, encyclopaedia style book on the subject. I've seen quite a few, you know a sort of "History of Christianity" type presentation.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

i seriously ask this question in light of some ridiculous experiences i have had in recent times.
a while back,a freind of mine purchased a new home.
a housewarming party was planned for her.
NYT.
I'm not glued to my computer either so the "NYT has left the building!" was just a dig.
I've just spent 10mins reading the whole thread.
So I'm reposting my question as requested which you didn't answer.
I would appreciate an answer. A yes or a no. And then a reason for your reply.
Scenario:
You become an elder a few years down the line.
You are on a committee.
Two witnesses have reported the accused for openly admitting that he uses a forum like this, which contains anti-JW discussion and during which he regularly talks to DA and DF people. The accused says he doesn't see anything wrong with this and he certainly doesn't repent of his actions and he isn't going to stop.
WOULD YOU VOTE TO DISFELLOWSHIP HIM?
I hope this is clear enough and I would appreciate a reply.
Just so you don't miss this question I am repeating it in a new thread.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, nytelecom1 has left the building. Please leave by the nearest available exit!"
Oh how I miss shepherds like that.

Yeah, I was trying not to use the "H" word!
If a certain form of behavior is ok for an "appointed man" who is an example to the flock, then it's ok for the flock.
Scenario for nytelecom1:
You become an elder and are on a committee. The accused has been reported because two witnesses heard him say that he was using forums which discussed anti-JW stuff and he frequently socialised with DF'd and DA'd people, didn't think it was wrong and wasn't going to stop.
WOULD YOU DISFELLOWSHIP THEM?

In fact are you seriously telling us that the elders know you are here?
I think not.
I think you do hide this association from them.

You certainly are forbidden to associate with "Apostates", disfellowshipped or disassociated ones. But you feel that it's ok to do that. How do you reconcile that. Don't you feel you are breaking God's law?
If you are so up front with your elders, unlock your e-mail and use your real name.
Or does Jehovah make exceptions in your case?
Perhaps in your next service meeting item you can tell everyone about this forum so that the sheep under your care can join in the fun.
ok this has nothing to do with being a jw or anything of that nature but it is important to me and i need some help:.
here goes i have been drinking rum and coke (bacardi) since i can remember and finally realized that maybe it is contributing to my severly harsh hangovers.
so i went on a quest in search of a new drink.
I don't believe in mixing my drinks.
Once I start on alcohol I always stick with it hehe!!
