Ok this has nothing to do with being a JW or anything of that nature but it is important to me and I need some help:

Here goes I have been drinking rum and coke (bacardi) since I can remember and finally realized that maybe it is contributing to my severly harsh hangovers. So I went on a quest in search of a new drink. So far I have tried vodka and cranberry juice ( too fruity although the color matched my hair) and 7 and 7 which was just not very refreshing. so any suggestions?

Looking for something refreshing that can also be pounded and will help me achieve the "pleasantly lit" feeling in somewhat of a speedy time. Oh and not beer. Although I like beer I am searching for a mixed drink.

    thanks.

I think you might have been using sweetened cranberry juice - the straight stuff can be pretty tart.

Supposedly the "ultra-refined" vodkas like SKYY won't give you a hangover, and the advertising for BLAVOD black vodka speaks of how the herbal agent that makes it black reduces hangovers and... AND is an aphrodesiac! All they need to do is to claim it is also a contraceptive, and they OWN THE MARKET!! (for 9 months).

I like bourbon, gin & tonic (it's MEDICINAL!!), tequila.

I'm a social drinker - I drink 'til everyone leaves.

Old Joe Rutherford had it right, "hair o' the dog, m'Lord!"

Finally! A topic I can contribute something meaningful to!

First of all, I do not, in any way, condone misuse of alcohol, drunkenness, or irresponsible behavior of any sort. That having been said:

You may have gotten off to the wrong start with the vodka and cranberry juice idea. It's not like you can just slosh one over the other and call it a drink.

You need a good cocktail shaker. One can be purchased at your local Target, Walmart, or other cheesy retailer for under $20 US.

Buy decent vodka, never bottom shelf stuff. I prefer a "lite" cranberry juice, as they tend to have less sugar.

Cut a fresh lime into quarters; muddle one quarter in the shaker with a wooden spoon. Fill the shaker with ice, put in two shots of vodka and an equal amount of cranberry juice. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is too cold to touch. (It should ice up on the outside.)

Strain the contents into a pre-chilled martini glass.

If you really want to be fancy, rim the martini glasses with super-fine suger.

This version is called a Cosmopolitan.

    Do not drink and drive.

May I suggest a MIND ERASER??
A tricky drink though-it is comprised of Kahlua, vodka and club soda. Properly prepared it is layered withKahlua on the bottom, vodka in the middle, and club soda on top. Drink thru a thin cocktail straw very quickly and you get the taste sensations starting with Kahlua, ending with the bubbly sensation of the club soda which aids in that

    "pleasantly lit" feeling

    which you seek.

Oh I don't make my own drinks, I leave that to professionals. Um I just don't like cranberry juice. And yeah it was the sweetened kind I had absolute vodka with it. Vodka is good just the whole juice thing.
Wasa maybe I will take up your idea and make my own drink who knows I can't cook but maybe I am holding some magical drink making capabilities.

As an ex-barman, aswell as ex-jw, I am suitably qualified to answer. If you want me to, I will recommend some cocktails, however, you probably need to switch to wine or beer, in other words "CHANGE YOUR POISON". How about port and lemon (I think lemonade in the US is soda).
Tall glass, ice, very nice measure of port, topped with lemonade.

Well the only wine I have ever had has come from a box. I love box o wine. Quality stuff only comes in a square made form cardboard. Speaking of Ghetto anyone ever had the 40 crazy horse. Oh those wacky things you do when you are young. Ok so it was last week but whatever sometimes it is quanity not quality when it comes to getting buzzed.

A Bloody Mary - it'll replenish all the nutrients the drunken binge leaches from your body (at least, that's the theory, anyway! )

    Stephanus,

I agree, there's nothing like a Bloody Mary.

Tomato juice poured into vodka on the rocks and then a healthy dash of Worcester sauce plus a modicum of balck pepper.

    Delish!

When in doubt I always ask for a boiler maker. A draft of beer and a shot of Jack. It works for me.
