I remember him too. We had him as DO maybe 12 to 15 yrs ago.
Where did you hear the info and how recent is this supposed to have happened?
Why would a man like him do this?
Very sad indeed.
he was a co/do and i understand from another db that he committed suicide.
my wife and i are quite shocked and saddened.

my family and i have argued about this for awhile now and i would like someone to confirm this.
back in the late nineties at a district convention during the late sunday afternoon (yawn) symposium i swear i heard mention that the society now views the celebration of ones birthday to be a conscience matter and should be done with extreme caution so as not to affend others who may still view it as wrong.
forgive me for not remembering which year it was that this was mentioned.
How can something be a "matter of conscience" or in other words, "OK if your conscience allows you to do it" if there is a penalty for doing it, such as "having all special priviledges removed"?
If you are penalised in anyway for doing it then its not a matter of conscience.

england won't find it easy against argentina or sweden.
nor will the usa have an easy time against portugal although they have a good chance against poland and should be able to demolish the koreans.. who else is going to be glued to the telly?.
I'll be there alright!
While we're on the subject of footy, I've just realised that I'm gonna be in Tunisia on holiday for the last week of the Premiership and the Champs League final. If United win it the wife and kids may have to come loking for me!!!!

I knew of a David Merry who was a CO in the Mexborough area.
Any help?

im not a wild pig in the african savanah!
and you are gathering in packs i see......lol.
Hi Lotus
I will rejoin if you can give me proof of 3 things.
1. The WT has never told a lie
2. They are not guilty of hypocracy.
3. They are Gods EXCLUSIVE Channel
Pub.
some of the recent posts regarding the "anointed" got me thinking about some of the characters that i have met, or have known about, professing membership among this elite class of people.. one particular character i know of, even today espousing some, shall we say, interesting viewpoints on matters, had an even more interesting past.
it seems that some years ago (c. 1970's) a typically subdued but otherwise ordinary christian meeting was being closed with a prayer at a small kingdom hall in the north eastern usa when it was suddenly disrupted by this individual (even then professing to be anointed) assaulting his wife at the rear of the hall!
he was pretty much disfellowshiped on the spot for his indiscretion.
Lotus.
As you are one of the Faithful and Discreet Slave then could you tell us how the whole process works.
Do you regularly communicate with the GB or are you canvassed for your opinion/input? Do you pray together as a group? How does God communicate with you as his channel?
so i was at the 'memorial' last night (that's a whole other story) and i got into a converstaion with an elder afterwards.
i asked him why no figure had been printed in our kingdom ministry for the number of uk partakers last year.
(in 2000, the figure of 300 was given, down from 319 in 1999).

I was told exactly that over 3yrs ago before I left. I dont know where you are in the UK, I'm in Halifax, but it was David Merry, a former CO who said it. He said that the society believed only 50% of partakers were genuine.
Nothing like second guessing the Faithful and Discreet Slave eh!!
I did alot of checking on the statistics of "anointed" before I left.
Mathematically it simply dopes (edited. I meant does of course!! Freudian slip!) not add up.
If the door was shut in 1935 (a point confirmed in a 1999 WT), then by being generous to the WT and saying that the lowest age of anointed ones was 20 in 1935 ( it must have actually been much higher than that on average, as 20yrs old would mean that they were born 1yr after 1914!!!) then the lowest age today is 87.
The official statistics for partakers have show a steady shallow decline for 50yrs, with the occasional, convienient, sharp blip upwards(!).
The official death rate statistics for an age group of average age 87 shows a sudden steep down turn to almost vertical. for every 5yrs added (bearing in mind that these are the youngest partakers from 1935)the survivors are almost nil.
an interesting question, the saints, the holy ones, if they are aware of their calling and choose to not follow for what ever reason, life or family pressures, what are the reprecussion for that called one?.
i was sure i had read a passage that stated the called one that turned away would loose the gifts yet still have their name remain in the book and i thought i read another passage stating the called one that turned away, then turned back again was not allowed and would have their name removed from the book.. the closest i have come to finding these passages is heb.
6:6 and there is john 15:6 but both passages are not quite what i was looking for.
This problem only exists within JW interpretation.
As their is only ONE baptism and therefore only one hope this whole scenario falls apart.
Because of our imperfections we may waver but we can always return to God with our destinies assured.
i used to be quiet around witnesses who were shunning me.
i changed my mind after my dad's funeral a couple of years ago.
i was their alone since i live in a different state; but, i guess everybody still knew who i was because of my mom.
I pray for every JW I see or meet.
Its the only way to stop becoming bitter and it totally nullifies any bad effect their shunning or rudeness has on me.
After a few seconds I feel better and just get on with my life, which is great.
I especially do this for JWs who I would love to rip off their arms and beat to death with the stumps!!!!
i was in the org.
for 35 years, and it never once occurred to me why we never taught our children the lord's pray.. our father who art in heaven hollow be thy name..... anybody have any reason for our ignoring the most perfect prayer offered up by god's son.. my fiance' ask me this tonight i can't explain it except that it would have turned into a repetitive expression like all our prayers were anyway... hell is truth seen too late.
h.g.adams
I don't think one should confuse repetive or even ritual with insincere.
Most JWs say a prayer before every meal which is essentially "Thanks God for our food" and will say this prayer literally 1000s of times. That doesn't mean it's not sincere and heartfelt.
So why the big deal about the Lord's Prayer becoming repetitive and by inference meaningless because it is said repeatedly.
By that reasoning we ought to all stop saying "I love you" to our spouse because after the first few times it is meaningless, repetitive and insincere.
Also I dont know any Christians who ONLY pray the Lord's Prayer without also using free, open, unscripted prayer. Infact the ratio is probably 100:1 Open prayer:Lords Prayer, which is surely what Jesus wanted.
