hi.

my wife and myself are active witnesses.. before i go into great depth about our past and what brings me here, i would like to make sure i am posting this in the right section.. i'm a little technologically retarded so please bear with me.. .

Like several others here I have great reservations about your chosen statement. In fact I would go as far as to say that i think you have chosen one of the worst lines possible

Your line hits at the very core of their control. You can't just "take a break from the organisation". And "researching the Bible for yourselves" is a big NO NO as far as their radar is concerned.

Yep you might as well just buy that red flag and wave it high . . .

I wouldn't be saying anything at all. Just drift and fade . . .

You can't reason with them at all. You can't provide them with a big contradictory truth. Even if you prove you're right, you'll be wrong.

What really ended the book study in private homes?

it's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.

although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...

but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?

I'm not sure that I buy the 'liability' line.

As usual JWs think that they are unique in everything they do but in reality they are not. Lots of churches have housegroups. And surprise, surprise, they think that they are very important because they are where friendships and relationships are made. Of course they aren't regulated like the JW version was and they are exactly the places where things are discussed properly and objections raised etc.

But I have never heard of a church having any concerns about liability. Never. And these are churches who do carry out proper checks on their people and do adhere to health and safety regulations. But I've not heard of any worries about liability.

i'm not sure if this is a controversial subject or not, i suspect it is, the 1936-1945 nazi regime were the most evil b*****d's in the world and thankfully were destroyed, however the jehovah's witnesses having sufffered under their rule, then became even more evil not by destroying the person's physical life, but destroying their way to god, if a person leaves then they become dead to god, and this from a second rate publishing company!

please don't think i'm being flippant about all the suffering and death the nazi's caused, but as we are most of us spiritual people, surely the witnesses caused a catastrophy in the post 1945 era.. best regards,.

New Literature Arrangement

just recently the org has changed the literature distribution to the congregation members.. the changes are:.

1) publishers are to pick-up their mag's weekly in preparation for what they think they will use that week.

2) group conductors shall now distribute the study article of the wt, and the km.. wonder why they have changed this?.

Soon the study edition will arrive in sealed packs. They will be guarded by 4 attendants. Opened during the song after the Public Talk. Distributed to people they recognise. Collected afterwards and counted in. No-one will be allowed to leave if the can't account for them all. They will then be destroyed.

They will love this because it will fuel conspiracy theories about apostates, reinforce their seige mentality, make the local elders and attendants feel important and convince them that the Great Tribulation is near.

just spoke to someone who has recently been df'd and they told me that they can sit anywhere instead of just at the back.. when did they change this?.

or is it just a local quirk?.

What gets me about this is the totally crazy perspective they have which makes them think that this is an experience to be highlighted.

The rest of 'the world' would think it was either crazy or despicable.

Recently I heard an almost identical account from the totally opposite perspective. A young African woman was on a platform, in front of a large gathering of church people. The interview with her was included in an item on some church missionary work in Africa. The girl was one of their success stories. She had become attached to the mission project (a water project I think) attended the school that they had set up for the locals, shown great promise in her education, been flown out to the UK where she had gone through university and now was going back to her country where she was going to continue the work that she had benefitted from.

THAT seemed to be something worth praising.

It also seemed to have a point.
