  So lets get this down on record Nitty Gritty, your in supportive agreement to the way the WTS has been handling acts of pedophilia within their organization ?

  No, I cannot say that. Mistakes have been made. And that not always being the fault of the WT as pedophiles can be very insidious. I used to think that a known pedophile (one who without a shadow of a doubt has been convicted and is considered a predator) should be announced from the platform for all to know. However, even such a vile person can change and publicly announcing him in this way would make anyone accepting a change in him very difficult. Basically this person would become an outcast with no hope. This is not Christian. Plus, if he did change, and moved to another congregation, would it be expected to announce him as a former pedophile? Would that be reasonable and a Christian thing to do?

  A pedophile who is convicted and a recognized predator is disfellowshipped, so announcing him as a pedophile is not needed as all in the congregation will stop associating with him. However, he does have hope, he can change if he wants and be accepted back. But can WT be blamed if he reverts back to his perversities and molests again? Hardly fair to say that.

  However, if there is a known predator in the congregation the parents of all minor children are discreetly informed of who he/she is. That’s better than announcing it from the platform.

  As for the 2 witness rule, obviously and in most cases a molester has no witnesses. But if he denies it, what can the WT do? The parents can go to the police, the police can investigate, but most of the time they come to the same conclusion as the WT, that in this case they can’t really do anything either!

  @Iincognito A further question is; why do you continue to defend an organization which clearly shows it has no interest in protecting or at least assisting in the protection of the most vulnerable within the congregation?

  My question is, how exactly has the organization clearly shown no interest in protecting or assisting in the protection of children?

  @sir82 You have no idea what her lawyers advised her. You know nothing about anything about her.

  Funny you posting this on this forum. Isn't this what this forum is all about? Speculation, judging things one has no idea about, twisting truths and implying wrong motives? How does it feel?

  But Watchtower claims to be different from "every strata of society." Remember, JWs are "no part of the world," and there is supposed to be a "spiritual paradise" in the organization, a place of "special protection and safety" from the evils of this world, according to Watchtower.

  These child molestation cases are proving that sexual molest of children, which exist in society in general, also exist among Jehovah's Witnesses. This shows that Watchtower is no better than the world it condemns.
  

  There are also adulterers, fornicators, liars and the like in Congregations. But guess what, no one can control what you do, it is up to individuals to apply Bible principles and not do these things. Some lead a double life for a while, before they are found out, but once they are found out to be practicing these things they are disfellowshipped and no longer JWs.

  @ Berrygerry, I am no lawyer, but as I understand it Conti settled for an undisclosed amount She had 30 days to appeal, and she did not. Every new appeal costs money. She was at risk of losing it all, and no doubt this is what her lawyer would have advised her. If she had appealed and lost, she would have ended up in debt!

  @ DarioKehl She exposed nothing that hasn't already been known. I.e that there are child molesters in every strata of society. Your neighbour could be one.

  @Scenic Viewer Actually, it looks like Watchtower is done with it. Watchtower has said there is no unfavorable court ruling they wouldn't appeal. Watchtower had started an appeal in this case but for some reason did an about face. I have a feeling the appeals attorneys that Watchtower was using knew they weren't going to win and convinced Watchtower to end it

  That's not how it was at all. WT DID appeal the lower courts ruling. It was now up to Candace to appeal. She did not and went in for a settlement.

  @Finkelstein Good point! It seems it's because Kendrick vehemently denies ever having been alone with Conti i.e. innocent until proven guilty. So that's how Candace got to sue. However, what if Kendrick really did not molest her, and she merely jumped on the child molestation band wagon in the hopes of $$$$? Who really knows? And is that maybe why she agreed to a settlement, to save her losing everything, instead of pursuing it further? Remember her aim she said was not the money, but to change WT policy. WT policy was not changed.

  This poster on Topix summed the whole case up perfectly. I quote:

  "The plaintiffs settled before the California Supreme Court had a chance to look at it. The settled amount would have most assuredly have been less than 2.8 million. That was the number they would have had to pay worst case scenario had their appeal failed.
  
  I believe the plaintiffs capitulated because it was likely that the Supreme Court would have reversed the negligence portion of the judgment (had the supreme court reviewed the case). The plaintiffs built a case on the premise of a sinister "policy of secrecy". Therefore the WT spent most of their resources defending against that premise.(The appeals court affirmed that the policy of confidentially was reasonable and inline with most organizations).
  
  Had the lower court ruled properly about the so-called "policy of secrecy" then the WT could have spent most of their resources defending themselves against the negligence portion of the lawsuit. Namely did the WT ever assign Kendrick to work alone with Candace in field service. And that is the ONLY thing the jury should have decided instead of a policy that the plaintiffs grossly misrepresented.
  
  Also the experts mistakenly told the jury that the elders were mandated reporters. That was not true and unjustly prejudiced the defendants".
