In a talk on the TMS this week about Abiathar, the brother said pointed out he was a high priest, equivalent to what a governing body member is today!
So, no, you're not imagining it. Christ is NOT their High Priest. The GB is!!!

it is amazing how bethel is the best at making apostates!
i wonder how many new up and coming apostates the new wt headquarters will generate?.
what nice and fresh stories will surface from the secluded and private wt hub?
Not sure what the references to 'sad and uptight' are all about. When I was at WT Farms (yep, back when they called it that), it was a pretty good experience. I don't regret it. I enjoyed most of it. Of course, that was over 20 years ago...
wtbts published a new article on jw.org (http://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/daniel-4-bible-chronology-1914/) entitled "what does bible chronology indicate about the year 1914?
" in it, it points to daniel 4 as the prophecy and uses the same leaps of insane logic to get from the first and only fulfillment of that prophecy to 1914, using 607 as the starting point and 2,520 years as doubling the 1,260 years in revelation.
of course, there is no accounting for the difference in our solar years and the bible's lunar years, which makes the math have a very different outcome.
Easy ways to debunk Christ's enthronement in 1914, without all the mental hoops:
Matt 28:18: Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: “All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth.
1 Tim 6:15: He is the King of those who rule as kings and Lord of those who rule as lords
Rev 1:5: and from Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness,” “the firstborn from the dead,” and “the Ruler of the kings of the earth
To those who say that the visions of Revelation was in the Lord's day (Rev 1:10), this statement by Christ himself was made to John while he "was on the island called Pat'mos" (Rev 1:9). Christ was saying he was Ruler of the kings THEN.
what did jesus say?.
(acts 1:8)8 but you will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon you, and you will be witnesses of me both in jerusalem and in all judea and samaria and to the most distant part of the earth.
by "divine providence" what did jesus' followers become known as?.
The Bible Students at the time conveniently ignored several scriptures, include these from Isaiah:
Isa 62:2-4: "The nations will see your righteousness, O woman,
And all kings your glory.
And you will be called by a new name,
Which Jehovah’s own mouth will designate.
3 You will become a crown of beauty in the hand of Jehovah,
A royal turban in the palm of your God.
4 No more will you be called an abandoned woman,
And your land will no longer be called desolate.
But you will be called My Delight Is in Her,
And your land will be called the Married One.
For Jehovah will take delight in you,
And your land will be as one married."
JWs today, by this passage should be called "My Delight Is in Her". (And "Bethel" should probably be called "Married One"... LOL!)
They also miss God's direct command:
Mark 9:7 "This is my Son, the beloved. Listen to him."
my judicial meeting was 6 weeks or more ago, and still no action.
i used a lawyer and a letter to them after i had already met with them and admitted everything.
the crazy part was they didn't tell me that night if i was df or not.
As soon as they got the letter, the likely scenario is they contacted WT Legal. Legal possibly advised them to hold the matter in abeyance for the time being. But, don't consider the matter closed. Six weeks is a very short time period when it comes to legal matters.
Aroq, good points. There's actually plenty in the Bible that supports this. How about Jesus' prayer at John 17? Specifically verse 24:
Father, I want those whom you have given me to be with me where I am, in order that they may look upon my glory that you have given me, because you loved me before the founding of the world.
Of course WTBTS applies this only to the anointed, too, which is another way of saying that the great crowd DOES NOT BELONG TO CHRIST!!!
w13 10/15 p. 30 par. 15:
"So concerning all who would become his anointed followers, Jesus now prays: “Father, as to what you have given me, I wish that, where I am, they also may be with me, in order to behold my glory that you have given me, because you loved me before the founding of the world.” (John 17:24) This causes rejoicing, not envy, on the part of Jesus’ other sheep and is further proof of the unity that exists among all true Christians on earth today."

That's an interesting observation, ablebodiedman. I was thinking last night about the purpose of Daniel 4, and how part of the interpretation was: "until you know that the Most High is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind and that he grants it to whomever he wants". I was thinking more along the lines of Romans 13:1, but hadn't really thought it through thoroughly, yet. I'm still giving this one more thought.
heard from the meeting yesterday that the 2014 yearbook mentioned a $ amount that the org spent on overseers and missionaries.
i remember is was 100+ million.
does anyone have that stat and the page number?.
There are just under 8 million JWs. Let's round up to 8 million for sake of this little exercise.
If each JW gave just $1 once per week, that amounts to $8,000,000 per week. Multiply that times 52 weeks, and that makes $416,000,000 per year. This covers all these twice over with just this tiny amount per publisher. Of course, this might not be considered a tiny amount in some countries, but you get the idea.

Aside from the fact that this prophecy is totally made up, it's linked to a prophecy Jesus gave at Luke 21:24:
And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.
Now, let's read it in context (vs. 20-24):
However, when you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near. Then let those in Ju·de′a begin fleeing to the mountains, let those in the midst of her leave, and let those in the countryside not enter into her, because these are days for meting out justice in order that all the things written may be fulfilled. Woe to the pregnant women and those nursing a baby in those days! For there will be great distress on the land and wrath against this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.
Hang on. Even more context (vs. 5-7):
Later, when some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with fine stones and dedicated things, he said: “As for these things that you now see, the days will come when not a stone will be left upon a stone and not be thrown down.” Then they questioned him, saying: “Teacher, when will these things actually be, and what will be the sign when these things are to occur?
So, this is a prophecy about the last days, the parallel to Matthew 24. If the last days BEGAN in 1914, how could this part of the prophecy END in 1914?
Also, how could this prophecy be talking about something in the past from Jesus' perspective?
And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.
I'm no English major, but the phrase "will be" indicates something in the future, not in the past.
Wow, oh, wow, oh, wow! This whole prophecy is debunked so many different ways it's absolutely stupid for WTBTS to keep propogating it!
Well, I started researching this topic in full detail this morning. Including Rev 5:8-10 and Rev 14:3. The short:
Rev 5:8-10 was a song sung by the four living creatures and the 24 elders, so it was not the same as the song sung by the 144,000 in Rev 14:3 where they sang before the throne and before the four living creatures and the 24 elders. Two different groups of singers.
Rev 5:8-10 talks about persons bought for God. So, that led me into who was "bought" or "purchased". Yes, the 144,000 were bought. (Rev 14:3) Both 1 Cor 6:20 and 1 Cor 7:23 say, "you were bought with a price". So, who's the "you"? Who was Paul writing to? 1 Cor 1:1 says: "to you who have been sanctified in union with Christ Jesus, called to be holy ones, together with all those everywhere who are calling on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours." So, everyone calling on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:28 talks about shepherding "the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own Son." So a lot more than just the 144,000 were "bought".
Based on this, Rev 5:8-10 could very well include way more than 144,000. There is no direct link between 144,000 and those who serve as kings for 1,000 years in the Bible. The link just does not exist. Any link produced is pure speculation.
