10 good reasons why celebrating birthdays should be allowed

In Joseph's day, the baker was executed as a criminal. It happened to be on Pharoah's birthday. Remember, he was in prison with Joseph. The cupbearer was exonerated and the baker was executed. The details of the crime(s) they were charged with is not recorded.
With John the Baptist, Herodias wanted John dead. Mark's account tells us it was "a convenient day" when Herod's birthday was being celebrated.
In both cases, that it was someone's birthday was irrelevant. Certainly makes the accounts easier to remember, but other than that, it's irrelevant.
This year, I permitted my workmates to celebrate my birthday with a cake and the traditional Happy Birthday song. It was nice. I enjoyed it for the first time ever. And the weirdest thing happened: NO ONE DIED.

LEAVING_QUIETLY is wrong in their assessment (above) since you state that you are an UBM -- (Un-Baptized Member).
Yep, I was wrong initially... I realized my mistake and edited my post to reflect that. Sorry for any confusion.

Like Button
by Coded Logic ini read through the suggestion box and haven't seen anyone recomend this yet: is it possilbe to add a "like" button for posts and comments?
maybe something that keeps count of them like on youtube.
i think it would be a great tool to let people know we appreciate their comments.. i know we have the thumbs up icon we can paste in our comments but its hard to "like" someones elses comment when the thread is already 30 comments deep.. (feel free to thumbs up if this is a feature you'd like to see).

New explanation of Gog of Magog: Two Gogs?
by leaving_quietly ini just finished watching the recording of the talk at the annual meeting that re-explains gog of magog.
i caught something not previously talked about, that i can recall.. gog of magog is thought to be a coalition of nations that attach god's people during the great tribulation.
this is from ezekiel 38 & 39.. gog and magog in revelation 20 represents those with the same attitude as gog of magog.. thus, the new teaching (maybe not new, but i'll have to research this) is that gog in ezekiel is not the same as gog in revelation 20. two different gogs, happening about a thousand years apart.. .

@Cold Steel, thanks for all of that. I admit, I know almost nothing about Islamic beliefs, so I can't comment on this, except to say: it gives me something to ponder. Thanks.

Wow... sorry to hear about this.
From a judicial point of view, they'll likely want to at least speak with you. Provide the police report, if you have it. At least you can clear your name. With UBMs, they don't have to even have a formal judicial committee. They simply would tell you that you are no longer qualified to be a publisher. But if you were not in the wrong, they likely won't do that.
I would think they would ask if you were drinking. You said you were not, so if everything else is on the up and up, you should be cleared with no trouble.
Of course, I echo 88JMs comments about getting checked out physically, if you haven't already. And, it might not be a bad idea to visit with a psychiatrist. Being in an experience like that could bring about unexpected mental side effects.
Edit: I read UBM and thought "unbaptized publisher". Ignore what I said about anything judicial. If you're not a publisher, there's not a darned tootin' thing they can do. Hopefully, they'd be humane and at least inquire about how you're doing.
Best to you,
~LQ

Is there, or is there NOT an 'Evil Slave'?
by The Searcher inw04 3/1 p. 13 par.
2 - "the expression "that evil slave" draws our attention to jesus preceding words about the faithful and discreet slave.
yes, the "evil slave" came from the ranks of the faithful slave.".

Obviously, from a biblical standpoint, there's no way for US to tell as the parable says that the evil slave says "in his heart" my master is delaying. The only way to maybe, possibly see it is by how they treat their fellow slaves: beating them (the Greek word means to beat, wound, inflict punishment)
So, the question is: does the FDS inflict punishment on their fellow slaves in any way, shape or form? Come to your own conclusions about this one.

This particular prophecy has as many explanations as the number 666 in Revelation. It's entertaining to read them online. It boils down to this: NO ONE KNOWS. And, so there it is.
My personal opinion (and that's all it is, an opinion): Gog of Magog in Ezekiel 38 & 39 have no fulfillment in our time period. For it to have fulfillment, all those of natural Israel would have to be regathered to the land of Israel first. Otherwise, God would be lying.
That and Ezekiel 38:17 shows that God had been prophecying about Gog for quite some time as he asks: "Are you not the same one I spoke about in the former days through my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied for many years that you would be brought against them?" The only one whom God spoke about in former days who would come from the north and attack Israel is the king of Babylon. (Isa. 14:3) I'm discounting Daniel's prophecies about the King of the North because Daniel and Ezekiel lived during the same time period, and both were in some sort of exile, so Daniel's prophecies couldn't be considered "former days".
Also, Ezekiel 38:8 says it occurs "In the final part of the years." I'm not so sure this is meant to indicate our time period. Final part of what years?
And, in this case Israel will light fires for seven years and spen seven months burying Gog's army. (Ezekiel 39:8-16)
There are other reasons I don't believe this is a prophecy for our time period, but this is enough for now. I do think the similarities between some things stated in Revelation and Ezekiel (e.g. the feast of the birds in Revelation 19) but that doesn't necessarily mean that the vision in Revelation is a re-statement of Ezekiel's vision.
Again, just my opinion, subject to change at any time.

When did the WTS begin to require baptismal candidates to answer 2 questions. What were they?
by AndersonsInfo ini need some research done so if anybody has the time, please see what you can find on the subject as stated in the title.. i clearly remember attending my first circuit assembly.
on october 30, 1956, i definitely answered two questions, along with about ten other people including my mother, not at the assembly, but we were standing at the side of a small baptismal pool that was in the basement of a kingdom hall in ronkonkoma, then a small hamlet on long island in the town of islip, suffolk county, new york, united states.. i know for a certainty that in 1945 candidates for baptism were not asked any questions but they were informed through their congregation that there would be a baptism and told where and when it was to be held.
usually the baptism was done at a beach and when candidates showed up in bathing attire, they were dunked, no questions asked.. so sometime between 1945 and 1956 two specific questions began to be asked of candidates.
