First thoughts on "new" meeting...
by konceptual99 inhad a quick look at the workbook and flicked through the sample meeting video.. the increased use of video shows the trend for more centralised dissemination of "best practice" .
sure there isn't really a "school" any more and the format is a bit different but i think those that called it as the same old crap just in new package got it pretty much right.

My wife discovered the video yesterday and the new meeting workbook. No one, including me, told her about it. She doesn't like change. After watching the sample meeting video, here take was: same stuff, different packaging. So, there you go: a full-in JW thinks nothing really has changed. Moved the CBS from the start of the meeting to the end, expanded the Bible Highlights and has demos instead of school parts. Same stuff in a different package. -

by apocalypse inthe question i will be asking dubs at the hall this week is, "since jesus is directing the slave.... why has he done a 180..?".
last sunday we studied how jesus is directing the slave to build an average of 5 kingdom halls a day since 2000. why has he changed his mind and gone in the completely opposite direction?.
if this 'change' is not securely lodged in their craw by the time i am through, then i will eat my hat..

If I were a full-in JW, I would respond by quoting Ezekiel 1:17: "When they moved, they could go in any of the four directions without turning as they went." That means forward, left, right and backward. If I were a full-in JW.

by username inok. when i first looked at the cover of this issue of awake i was instantly struck on how creepy it looked.
my first impressions were the picture looked almost masonic in nature.
well, further investigation has led me to another picture that shows a grand masonic hall.

I agree, it's not closing. It may be stalling for a bit, and likely strategically. If anyone has played games like Clash of Clans or any other empire building game, there is a time to stop building and just let the gold roll in. At a later point in time, the amassed amount can be used to buy/build more. If it is true that downsizing will happen and building will be halted, I suspect it will only be for a short period of time. Six months, a year, maybe two years. A lot of money can be amassed in that period of time with the KH tithing that is taking place.

That they monitor this site is a suspicion. I personally believe they do. I posted logic on "Satan is not Gog of Magog" two years before they came out with their "new light" and they used some of the very same logic I posted. Another posted had a chart of the "overlapping generations" and the chart they just showcased in this month's broadcast looks very similar, complete with F.W. Franz. So, yes, I think they do look at this site. Ideas come from here. -

Does anyone else think that these 'big changes' are just a way to get the r&f all excited...
For the last several visits, the CO has been saying, "If you think we've had a lot of changes so far, you ain't seen nothin' yet." In other words, expect more and more changes. This was all to tell the R&F to just deal with it. Apparently, many don't like the huge amount of changes in the past few years.
This religion is, without a doubt, re-inventing itself from within. Re-branding has happened, and will continue to do so. For the first time, the "Organized" book is being released in electronic form. That's HUGE! Now, anyone, including non-JWs can get one. Sure, they have to read a disclaimer, but so what.
I think the structure of the new meetings seems somewhat interesting. Not that I'll attend, of course. I haven't been to a mid-week meeting (with the exception of a CO visit) in a few months. Not planning on doing so now.
One bad part is leaving the announcements until the end of the meeting. Any DF or DA announcements then will destroy the mood left by the rest of the meeting. I think that's a dumb move, personally.
Just like the go-bags 2 or 3 years ago.
Don't know about your area, but here in the Puget Sound (Seattle area), go-bags are very much encouraged by even "worldly" authorities. It's encouraged by the media in the area. I've had discussions with non-JWs who carry emergency supplies in their vehicles and have go-bags ready due to the threat of earthquakes and volcano eruption here. Personally, I think the way the organization went about it by having the elders require everyone have one was over the top, but the idea behind it was a sound one.
