wasblind, the scenario you described concerning the two handicapped women being chased by a dog was so funny. I don't mean to sound mean but the image made me laugh so hard, my side hurts. I cannot imagine who would allow these women or anyone so handicapped to put themselves in danger just to preach. I was always terrified of dogs when I used to go 2d2. JWs can be so heartless and dumb.

Actually, I knew, but felt it was inappropriate to propagate hero-worship on this thread.
And EXCUSE ME, but I was DF'd for apostacy in 1978/9 - can't remember the exact year, it was so long ago. So while YOU were still believing the LIE, I was living the reality of dismissing it. So what if some Bethelite had no funeral?
Talesin, I actually do not know who Ed Dunlap or his brother is. I have heard Ed's name mentioned in connection with the 80's purge of apostates but that's all the info I have. I was out of the borg by '78, DF'D for apostacy sometime in the early 80's Like you, I don't remeber the exact year. Apparently it was not that important a date for me to remember. During and after that time, I was too busy rebuilding my life to know what was happening in the larger jw world.
As for a funeral, I do want to be buried. Our family has thirty plots in the middle of the US where my husband and some of his family are already buried. I intend to live to be 100 so there might not be too many people left to attend my funeral. It would make me happy to have any who cared about me in life to have a big party with dancing and music as a send off for me. As others have stated, after I'm gone, I won't know what's happening anway so whatever my children do, is okay by me.

Anthony Morris III---- Who Really Gives a Sh*t About Him Anyway?
by minimus ini don't understand why so many threads and comments are about him.

I had never heard of Anthony Morris lll until I came on this site. I have seen all the videos and agree he has quite an ego. That last one on donating to the world wide work was so blatant it reminds me of the preaches I see on
Sunday morning tv. The jws seem to just eat up whatever he says. Cedars, keep up the good work! We are "getting to know" him. I want to know whose running this organization.

Why get "personal" when discussing a topic?
by Terry intrading insults happens among kids all the time.. intellectual development hasn't progressed to the point where they can present contrary ideas and opinions with persuasive appeal to reasons, facts and logic.. "i know you are; but what am i?".
"your momma's so fat....".
so, they fall back on childish mocking, provocation and personal attack.. as we grow older and have more education and sophistication our minds should mature---or so you'd think!.

Many who were born-ins never developed those critical-thinking skills, and hence were essentially intentionally handicapped so as to stay.
King Soloman, you might be right about that. I always used to ask myself why I didn't plan and think about life like my schoolmates did but then I am reminded of the words in one of Cat Steven's song that says
"From the moment I was born, I was ordered to listen." We, who never had a choice in the matter of becoming jws, grew up having someone else telling us what to think and believe. We were never allowed to think or make our
own decisions about anything. Some born-ins were independent enough to break away sooner that those of us who stayed for years. Family and peer pressure, plus the fear of losing it all kept us tied to the organization. Some
have had to play catch-up with those outside the borg.

I love words. I did not speak English when I entered the first grade so I had to learn an entirely different language at an early age. I guess that’s when I became fascinated with words. I have started writing a book whose pages I send to my professor to critic. I don’t know how good of a writer I am, but I like to write. I do enjoy reading what some on the forum write.

umandevi, I loved the 'Carpetbaggers." I am reading/studying "Wheelock's Latin," by Wheelock and LaFleur and "The Golden Ratio" by Livio. For pleasure I am reading Ernest Hemingway's " For Whom the Bell Tolls." I have always
wanted to learn latin, so here goes. They do not teach latin at the nearby university, I would have to travel 50 miles to attend a class so I am trying it on my own. Does anyone out there write latin? If so, maybe you can e-mail me
a note and see if I can translate it into English...... later.

If disfellowshipping was abolished...
by iamwhoiam in...what would it accomplish?.
a few thoughts running through my head.... 1. the kingdom hall would be open to people who were originally df'd for apostasy, and therefore opening the door for debate without consequence (e.g.
people spreading thier ideas freely within the cong without fear of being df'd/banned).

I'm not sure I would want to have anything to do with those family members who have shunnned me. It has been so many years, > 20 years, that I no longer have any interest in them. I am refering to my beloved sisters. I am just
not interested anymore. I have moved on. I would not return to the KH; to boring and stupid for me.

I have a question: my daughter is a naturally gifted writer. She writes like I wish I could write, naturally from the heart, it just kinda pours out of her. My hubby made the misstep of telling my daughter if she keeps a journal he feels he has a right to read her most personal thoughts (something I don't agree with and feel that should only be done with permission) so now she has stopped writing for pleasure. I've tried to encourage her to pick up the pen again but she refuses. Is there anything I can do?
MsJones, your daughter should learn to write in another language. I wrote in Spanish when I did not want anyone to know what I was writing. Yes, sometimes we are talking about you when we change to another language, but not always.

I love to write. I took a creative writing class a few semesters ago and learned a lot. I like to write longhand but ususlly use the computer. I keep my iPad beside me and look up any words whose meaning I am unsure of or have
heard for the first time. I confess that I have had to look up a few words on these posts just to be sure I know the exact meaning. I like reading the what you guys/gals write here on the forum. I believe those books mentioned
by SadElder are required in the English classes at the university I attend. I will be reading what you write. BTW, I get very upset if my favorite pen is missing.

Why you love America
by jamesmahon init struck me, as i guess it has a lot of people, that there are so many threads from both americans and the rest of us that seem to descend into america bashing.
i thought it might be quite nice to have a thread solely (and i mean solely - if this just turns negative i will call foul) on what we think is great about america.
as a brit who has lived and been over a number of times there are many parts about america that i think are great and thought is would be healthy to have a positive thread for a change.. so a starter for ten (with a few gross generalisations thrown in):.

King Solomon said:
Without doubt, the BEST thing about America, bar none, is our Constitution/Bill of Rights/Declaration of Independence, documents upon which all of our citizen's freedoms are based: freedom of speech, religion, assembly, right to peaceable protest, right to bear arms, separation of church and state, etc. While they're not necessarily unique documents, they were revolutionary at the time they were written by offering an alternative to other forms of government that inextricably combined religion with government.
I have to agree with KS. That is what I like about Ameica BEST. I love America because it is my home. I love the fact that we have an independent spirit, we work hard, and we know how to play hard and have fun. We love
sports; Football (Super Bowl Sunday, Baseball (The World Series), Basketball, and I can't forget Golf. I love Hollywood's movies, NYC (which I have not visited yet, but I will soon) and it's plays, Chicago, LA, Dallas, Denver,
Seattle, Boston, Sant Fe, New, Orleans, Miami, all our wonderful and great cities and their people. I once wrote a paper about America being, not a melting pot, but more like a wonderful stew full of different flavors that
blend and give flavor to the whole but with each ingredient retaining it's unique flavor (culture). I would like to visit other countries, but I could never live anywhere else. Oh, I love the Great State of Texas and the Sooners too.
I was born and bred in Texas and graduated from Oklahoma State University. OH, I forgot our Music, We have the greatest music and musicians around!
