  WT SHUNNING POLICY: What has it done, or could it do to you?

  hi y'all, this is mrs. flipper.

  please share your experiences with this, or possible consequences of being outed.. this recent controversy and resulting arguments all stem from people being outed - possibly losing friends and family because most jw's will blindly follow the watchtower's rules to shun them.. among people i know and experiences read here, the grief and loss caused by this is terrible, and maybe now is a good time to put up some experiences here, and put the focus on the worst villians of all - wt policymakers..

  The SHUNNING POLICY has had a devastating effect on me. I was df'd in the early 80's, during the "purg," although I had not attended meeting in years. I miss my family terribly, but have learned to accept the losses.The majority of my family, which is large, is JW. In fact, three of my cousins give talks at the District Assemblies. If the POLICY was changed today/tomorrow, I don't think I would want to resume a relationship even with my beloved sisters. I am the youngest of five of my father's daughters; all of them JWs.There is too much water under the bridge, too much time has elapsed and some of my family members have been meaner than the Policy calls for. I guess it makes them feel more righteoust to 'throw us under the bus" and mistreat those of us who have done no more than "take the road less traveled" by JWs, those of us who have chosen to use our minds and make our own decisions. Well, that's the way it goes. I have had to rebuild my life without the majority of my family. Thank God I have four brothers and a few male cousins, and my son,daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter to call family. We are a small family but we have many friends. The ORGANIZATION has not broken us. WE WILL SURVIVE!

  If YOUR Child Turned Out To Be A Child Abuser Would You Hate Him?

  let me say, from the beginning, that i believe child abuse is disgusting and terrible and abusers should be punished.. we often react to the subject by getting very riled up, sometimes threatening to beat up or even kill an abuser.. i wonder, would you feel the same way if you realized that your child was an abuser?.

  I just watched a movie about Jeffery Dahmer, the serial killer that ate some of his victims. His father said, in the movie that he wished Jeffery had never been born. The father visited and supported his son because he loved him. That would be a very hard thing to do. I don't think I would hate him but I would be angry with him and hate what he/she did.

  You young people have shown so much more guts than some of us older ones that it gives me reason for hope that maybe we can defeat this loathsome organization. Those of us who never knew anything else but the Borg stayed in too long thinking we would live forever in paradise. What a joke!! Thanks to the Internet I now know I am not the only one who thinks this org is a lying org who does not have any connection with God.

  My crisis of conscience happened in Spain after being counselled by an elder against helping African boat people (refugees, mainly women with babies).

  I was told not to offer material help but only Bible Studies as they might come into the truth for the wrong reasons.

  I cannot imagine anyone counseling you aganist helping those in need. In my opinion, material help is as important as spiritual help. How can you appricate spiritual help when you are hungery, in danger of losing your present life, or in need of other material help!! The borg's thinking just does not conicide with what Jesus taught or critical thinking.

  The main thing was the statement that only the 144,000 had a Mediator. I felt that if I did not have Jesus as a my Mediator, I had nothing. I did not agree with that belief because I did not feel it was supported by the Bible. After reading "Crisis of Conscience" and learning that I was not the only one the disagreed with the org regarding the belief about Jesus being the Mediator of only the 144,000, I lost all confidence in the org. After that, I no longer trusted anything the org had to say, so I started comunicating with others who had left the borg and learned more about how the borg was not in line with the Bible. I am so glad I had the brains to leave,although I have paid a high price for that decision. I am an outcast, no one in my family has spoken to me since 1982 except for once at my mother's (a JW) funeral and another to yell at me for calling them to tell them to keep out of my personal business. Now, I am fine, although I wish I had a relationship with my family, I realize it will never happen.I am just thankful that left the borg before my children got baptized. We, my two children and I, are out and doing well.

  despite everything, i still have a lingering admiration toward those who serve or have served in bethel.

  it is not that i believe it is gods organization in any way, shape, or form.

  I have only read the first page of reponses but I agree with LHG and Steve2. We all have to be responsible for ourselves and our decisions. Those of us who have been df'd for being wise enough to leave the organization have also suffered by being shunned by all our JW family members,including former and current Bethelites. Although, I am digusted by the treatment of those who have been laid-off by the organization, they made a choice just as those of us who left made a choice. We have all been mistreated by this org. I can only hope that somehow,someway the org pays for all the misery they have caused so many people.

  now that i am really "awake" at the assemblies i pay more attention to what the borg's traveling enforcers say and the talk he gave was some "new light" on 2 thess.

  1:8 (probably his opinion).

  paraphrased " there is a thinking that has crept in somehow in the minds of some brothers over the years that because jehovah is a merciful &loving god he will not destroy those who have not been reached with the good news in different parts of the world or my family or bible studies need just a little more time, well they need to read this script.. .

  about a month ago, i wrote a post about a sister that keeps coming to my apartment giving me watchtowers.

  i called her an older sister.

  she is in her late 50's.

  I remember when I thought 30 was old. "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end." When people make fun of my age, I just say

  "You should be so lucky to get to be my age." I know I feel fortunate to still be alive and well. One's view of age and being old is relative. I'm sure people

  would view being 60's as young. Most of us "of a cetain age" are not offended because we remember being young. Enjoy it. It goes by fast!

  God in your brain....

  just came across an interesting study.

  during brain scans, when people were asked how they felt about something, the same part of the brain was active as when they were asked how god felt about something.

  when asked how other people felt about something, however, a different part of the brain was at work.. specifically, the portion of the brain that was active when asking people how god felt about things was the portion of the brain associated with self-referential thinking.... people are literally making god up in their own image as they go.
