  The elders really piss me off

  okay, so i'm there at work, working merrily along[not], when elder wart nose comes over by me, and asks me questions about this anti-jw site, that he's heard about.

  i ask him, where he got his info, "he's got his resources" he says.

  so, i'm like, "so fucking what?".

  I would go immediately to your supervisor or the owner of the business and explain the situation (including his threats of suing you for sexual harassment). Get this all documented right now! Write down everything that you remember him saying to you.

  I worked at a company with an elder (sat in the cubicle right next to me) who was on the committee that df'd me (I got reinstated and then left the borg).

  He would shun me at work and it was very apparent to all of my co-workers. I was embarrassed by him constantly! I explained the situation to my supervisor and she and the HR director had a talk with him. Treat me in a professional manner or find a new job. The company did not want a worker's compensation lawsuit against them for allowing him to place me in a "hostile work environment." He got a written warning that he had to sign. He then started treating me like a normal person.

  Oh! The power of a threatened lawsuit! LOL

  Christ - a complete idiot?

  in the corporate world the top leaders are of course responsible when something goes wrong in the organization they lead.

  why should it be different in the religious area?

  during its existence the watchtower society has printed all kinds of articles about who are chosen to become elders in the watchtower organization.. the sum of all of them is that these men are appointed by all the big shots in the universe starting with jehovah, which in turn delegates the handling of this matter to jesus which in turn works his wonders through a mystic entity called the holy spirit.

  It's the Governing Body, then the holy spirit and the angels in their authority line up.

  this woman's husband just admitted he had a drug problem.

  dh and i talked to our priest yesterday.

  I think the question would be more like:

  are you doing enough praying?
  are you reading the magazines?
  how are your hours in service?

  This is their standard line of questioning no matter what your problem is. They are trained to think that doing more in "Jehovah's Service" will solve every problem...

  depressed? go out in service, take your mind off of yourself
  marital problems? go out in service with your spouse
  problems with your kids? go out in service with your kids
  drug/alcohol problem? go out in service with an elder
  losing your joy? go out in service, it will bring you more joy
  new to the congregation? go out in service with others in the hall
  exhausted? go out in service, it will refresh you

  It's the answer to every problem.

  This is from another board I belong to (not religion related). This woman's husband just admitted he had a drug problem

  DH and I talked to our priest yesterday. DH was very honest and I actually learned alot. He (the priest) feels that we need to seek marriage counseling as well as substance abuse counseling. He explained that we need to face and work through my feelings of resentment and betrayal. He said that what I am feeling is very natural and that we can't just concentrate on the substance abuse part, or we will lose each other in the process. We can either seek him for marriage counseling or a professional counselor.

  Compare the what the priest said to them to what a jw elder would say.
  No dragging in the back room, no committees, nothing. Just good advice.

  Most major corporations don't have this many sub-corporations! It seems to me that the only time I read about this many sub-corporations is when a company has been caught laundering money....

  Had to chime in here.

  Danni: Thank you for your bravery. I now wish that I had called some elders on the carpet for their past behavior. I personally know 3 women (they are grown now - pre-teen at the time) in the same hall who were molested by the same person. Still an elder. I have done nothing about it. Reading your story gives me the incentive to stir up the pot for this elder.

  I agree with Red Horse Women, every little chip counts. In this day of easy information access, the more we let others know of the damage done by this "religious" organization, the better. They may not fall in my lifetime, but the will fall.

  BTW to Joel: Elders meetings and judicial meetings took place all the time during regular meetings in California. Some elders never sat in their seat the whole meeting.

  BTW to (I can't remember): The language coming of some elder's mouths would make a sailor blush. My dad would come home so upset with other elders because of their bad language (including F*** in one heated meeting).

  BTW to Yardif: As if she'll give you her address! Some stranger over the internet. You could be a stalker. Whatever.

  Grew up in Burbank, moved to Orange County, and then moved to NYC. Anybody from Starlight, Buena Vista or Rancho Vista Congs? How about Dana Point?
