Is it me or is that ewatchman guy way too negative?
by Inisc inhas everyone heard of him, robert king?.
i occasionally have a look on his site, at times when im not sure what i believe.
i'm sliding towards atheism but i'm not completely sure either way.. the more reading i do of things of a scientific nature, the more i edge towards no god, but i like to analyse both sides of an idea.. anyway, whenever i read anything on kings website, it just seems he is a bit of doomsday cultist himself, i mean he has all these links to conspiracy sites, and all manner of negative scary articles about nuclear war and famine etc.

Diamondiiz, your right it is a stepping stone after leaving the WT, when your looking for answers he does seem to interpret the bible slightly better, but is still parallel to the WT.
But he is more 'end is nigh', and he still pretty much believes the WT is true just a bit misguided in interpretation.
And everything is so scary doom and gloom on his site, everything is all nuclear war, WW3, Iran this and Russia that. I've gotta stop lookin at it it's too depressing, tho at the same time if you don't believe much in the bible it all seems completely looney!

But then when I doubt in god and the bible, kings doomsday ideas seem a little unhinged.
Any thoughts?

UK convention dramas recorded by American actors - the GB's yearly gaffe
by cedars ini'm just curious as to whether any of my fellow brits ever pondered how the society can be so stupid as to insist using the us drama tapes at uk conventions rather than having them re-recorded in a british accent?.
as all of us brits know, the convention drama is a subject of subdued derision among uk publishers - and i've been to many a party or social gathering where, at some point, somebody whose had a little too much coke re-enacts a scene from a drama mockingly (typically by gesturing wildly into the air and saying "jer-ho-vah gaaard!!
" in an over-the-top american accent).. what the society clearly doesn't understand is that the dramas really lose their emotional impact with british audiences when performed in an american accent by amateurs.

I never cared what accent the dramas were in, they were still crap!
I did find it somewhat ridiculous how overly theatrical the voices were, quite embarrassing actually.
And I could never understand how every one in my family, immediate and extended, all loved it! They'd get all excited and make sure they got good seats and then discuss it afterwards.
And I'd be sitting in the car with the radio OFF! Lol. (the whole convention is broadcast over the radio here, so some people sit in their cars and listen in comfort). Do they do that everywhere?

Draconian Rules for Attending "Special Convention"
by BluesBrother inbritish dubs are invited to attend a special convention next summer in dublin , irish republic.
o k, this kind of trip has been done many times before.
however i have never seen such a crude and rigid set of rules that would apply to their own people going on a trip, at their own expense of course.

I haven't heard of a special convention before, I probably wasn't listening!
But thre was a special one day thing a month or so ago in Scotland that was on top of the regular assembly day. It was optional and congs booked coaches to get there. My dad told me about it and he was a bit miffed the coach was meant for transporting school kids on trips so the seats were on the small side lol!
Anyway, it was meant to be a big deal cos there was a TV link up with a London bethel speaker givin some talks.
Has anyone ever heard of this before?
And do they give any talks at special conventions that that don't want the normal r and f to hear?

Was everyone surprised by how nice worldly people can be?
by Inisc ini, like most born ins grew up being taught that everyone who was not a jw was inherently wicked, that they were dishonest, unloving, selfish, bad parents who don't care about their children, and also sad empty people with no direction in life.. as i grew older i started to see that this wasn't always true with every one, that what i was taught wasn't equating with what i was seeing.. by high school i could see that my friends at school, (yes worldly friends eek!
) we're actually decent people with morals, they may have engaged in a little fornication here and there but not promiscuously, and they were good honest people, with goals and parents that cared for them.. but after high school i was phsycologicaly bullied into ceasing contact with my friends altogether, leaving me with little contact with outside world, and the cult mentality had more room to grow, not fully, but enough to unconsciously not fully trust 'worldly' people.. however, once i'd left the org and began to meet people again, i was amazed at actually how good, honest, loving, kind, and caring many people can be!
who love their spouses and children and try their very best to be good parents and partners.

I've also found that non jws often care more for their fellow man, and feel more. Like you know when you see those TV appeals for charities like children in need or comic releif, 'worldly' people see that and cry and donate money. JWS see it and say how bad satans world is and thank goodness Jehovah is gonna fix it soon!
The longer it seems your out, the more people you meet and get the chance to see that people are basically good.
Its heart warming to see, pleasantly surprising and then shocking when you meet people who are actually nicer than jws.
I have come to love not seeing the whole world as completely evil. I hate that I was told it was.

As I grew older I started to see that this wasn't always true with every one, that what I was taught wasn't equating with what I was seeing.
By high school I could see that my friends at school, (yes worldly friends eek!) we're actually decent people with morals, they may have engaged in a little fornication here and there but not promiscuously, and they were good honest people, with goals and parents that cared for them.
But after high school I was phsycologicaly bullied into ceasing contact with my friends altogether, leaving me with little contact with outside world, and the cult mentality had more room to grow, not fully, but enough to unconsciously not fully trust 'worldly' people.
However, once I'd left the org and began to meet people again, I was amazed at actually how good, honest, loving, kind, and caring many people can be! Who love their spouses and children and try their very best to be good parents and partners. Much more than any JWs i knew. It's truly heart warming to come to that realisation that the whole world is not evil! To meet people who want to live a good life, who care about life and aren't waiting for the next one. And than your eyes are opened to the fact that many people actively help others in charity, even governments provide so many things to its citizens, all things that you didn't seem to see before.
It is one of the many things after exiting that made me realise I was brainwashed. And it is one of the things that I'm most resentful of, that the org took away my right to enjoy life and the people in it. I now see life so differently, and so much clearer.
Does anyone else feel the same?

A new member of the thinking class
by Captain Obvious inthis is my first post on this forum, though it feels like i already know some of you here.
i have been lurking for a couple of months now, and i must say, there honestly seems to be more love and respect here than any forum i have ever seen on any forum of any kind.
i am 25 years old, married 3 years to my wonderful wife who is 22. we had a somewhat classic jw upbringing... which i now know has been our biggest problem.

Welcome captain!
Pleased you have woke up, it's a wonderful feeling and really helps you appreciate life.
Im a little bit older than you, also married for 3years but more fortunate in that my wife also left the org about same time I did.
I second all the advice given to you, but will add that now your wife knows you no longer believe in the org, everything you do or say is under a microscope. She will unconsciously expect you to behave more 'worldly' and display less fruits of the spirit. So what you have to do is be the best damn husband! I'm sure you already are, but be more.
More kind, loving, romance her, and don't ever become angry or short, do well beyond your share of the chores, have dinner ready for her coming in, you know what I mean. If she goes to the meeting without you, she's got the perfect man to come home to! In time you can 'win her without a word'. She will then see that a 2corded marriage is as strong if not stronger than a 3 corded one. Be happy in life, happier than you were in the org, take pleasure in life's gifts, the small things. Enjoy each day, such an outlook can be infectious and hopefully your wife will see that life outside the org can be good, better even than how the WT portrays it.
I to did so much reading after waking up. It was recommended on here to me that I read Athiests book of bible stories, it fascinating reading.
Also, I highly recommend I'm perfect your Doomed, by kyria abrahams. Hilarious and brilliant for anyone brought up in the 'truth'.
I wish you all the best captain.

I wouldn't say better no.
There are some jw's that are lovely genuine people with a heart of gold, but then there are some who are arrogant ass holes and everything in between, much like every group of people.
For the most part I'd say say they are basically good, but I think those ones would be good people with or without a religion. Same with the assholes.
But since leaving the jw's it's been a true eye opener to see some truly lovely people. Some friends I now have are the most nice kind loving honest sincere people I have ever had the pleasure to meet, more so so than any jw i knew.
I also think that jw's put far too much stock in not swearing, or smoking or gambling or tattoos and they think because they don't do that, that somehow means they are oh so jesusy. But my BIL is covered in tattoos, smokes, and swears like a marine and is a great father and husband and a good person.
So no, they aren't any better than the general population, they might swear less, but that don't make you bad!
