I've never been to the Toronto one but according to my brother Montreal has a much bigger gay village. This year there will be a week-long event marking Gay Pride; the parade will be in the evening so it shouldn't be as insanely hot and humid as Toronto's was this year. It'll be the last week of July, so if anyone makes it here then the barbecue will be in my backyard! |

Happy Canada day fellow Canucks! This was the first time I followed the parade downtown here. The Black Watch Regiment was out in full force - bagpipes, men in kilts Too bad it wasn't windy ... I can't believe some parts of the country won't have fire works and we'll have them here in La Belle Province! Rene Levesque must be turning over in his grave! There are all kinds of things happening in Old Montreal and the Port.
Montreal is also hosting the International Fireworks Festival once again this year so tomorrow I'll wander down to the Old Port and watch more fireworks.

A scene where an alien tentacle explores a ruined basement where they're hiding is a mirror of a better scene in " Jurassic Park " where characters hide from a curious raptor.
Exactly what I thought. I just saw the movie - wish I had read this review beforehand. I was bored through most of it, although the little girl was great, but I'd like to see her in something with more depth. The plot, what there was of it, was a lot of running, hiding, driving, hiding, crying, hiding, then the tripods disintegrate. It should have been entitled "Attack of the Not-so-scary machines." -

Remember, we have a big advantage when it comes to dealing with JWs. We used to be them. We know how we used to think and feel, and how we think and feel now. They only know how we feel based on what their WTBTS masters tell them about us, which we know is not even close to true.
Excellent point, Swan.

to understand so that's why the WTS published the new book being released at this year's district conventions.
The new book gets "straight to the point". According to her "and many others", the Knowledge book was too difficult for those just beginning a Bible Study. I said, "you're kidding!" She looked rather surprised, then assured me that many others had said the same thing, it was just so hard studying the Knowledge book with newly interested ones.
I thought to myself that the difficulty lay in the confusing, contradictory and unexplainable nonsense contained in the Knowledge book, not that it was too "deep".

No compassion during Bible Study
by Grace ini was remembering today about a bible study an elder's wife took me on once (actually, her elder husband was the congregation overseer).
after the chapter was over for that day (i think the knowledge book), the elder's wife asked when we could arrange the next study.
the frail single mother of three evaded the question, and the elder's wife persisted.

Even though the lady had a severe speech impediment and other problems, the sister patiently continued the study at the lady's own pace, and also visited to talk about other issues without counting time. The sister took the lady to hospital and other appointments, helped her with her shopping and was supportive of her problems even though interest in the actual bible study was declining. When it was learned that the lady's carer was using the government carer's pension for alcahol, the sister helped the lady get back in touch with her estranged adult children in New Zealand, with whom she became re-united.
After my mother's third stroke, and she remained paralyzed, several JWs were particularly selfless in helping out. Two of them make the Red Cross look slack in the amount of assistance they render to others, not only my mother when she was alive, and no, they certainly don't count their time for it.
There are good and bad everywhere. Of course, the dynamics of an insular, restrictive group such as the JWs foster all manner of negative psychological behavior, but that's a whole other discussion and I'm sleepy .
And I also have no doubt that Grace told the story exactly as it happened. Some JWs are like that, some aren't. I know of a CO's wife who was every bit as heartless as the JW in Grace's story. And she's been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Karma?

Not Hamilton, but there are two in Cornwall, Ont., that I know of, the first starting tomorrow.
