That's really sad; I had no idea, seeing as how many sparrows are in my backyard. I have a small fir tree in the back yard that's like Sparrow Spa - a bit of bird seed every few days and they come from all over the neighbourhood!

Did anything a householder said ever make an impression on you?
by Alleymom incoming at this as a householder rather than an ex-jw, i'd love to hear from any of you about comments from householders that made an impression on you, back when you were active in the door-to-door work.
since the jw's first knocked at my door 13 years ago, i've done my best to give them something to think about every time they knock at my door.
i always introduce myself by name and try to get their names.

Through all my years of pioneering and feeling so privileged to have the “truth” and being able to verbally wrestle with people, I felt very smug and self-righteous about my beliefs. Stressed and guilty also, mind you, but smug nonetheless.
Then about two or three years ago we knocked on the door of a building used as part temple, part monastery for a small group of Buddhist monks. We could feel the peaceful atmosphere, their kindness and hospitality, even though they didn’t speak much English. Their smiles were genuine, and after we left the door, all we could talk about were these Buddhist monks and how gentle and serene they were. Our “life-saving” message was forgotten, as were our magazines, and we just talked about their simple life, their lack of material things and how happy they seemed. Quite the contrast to how we were feeling, I’m sure: guilt-ridden and under obligation to be knocking on doors of people who could teach us more about living true to ourselves than we could ever teach them.

How relieved are you now that your finally set free?
by micheal ini was thinking back to the time when i was in my "spiritual paradise" oh about 7 months ago and i can really remember just how unhappy most people really were.
most seemed so loaded down with "privledges" and "responsiblilities" that it just sucked the life out of them.
any spirit they may previously had had faded to mere a shell of their former selves.

It's been almost a year since I "saw the light" about the WTS, and I feel as though I can finally breathe. I tried so hard to be super-dub, pioneered, special pioneered, worried and fretted about others, and practically had a nervous breakdown in the process. And the never-ending guilt over not doing enough, even though the amount I was doing practically choked the life out of me.
I feel almost physically lighter, literally, like I no longer have to carry this ball and chain called Watchtower rules and regulations around with me.
Freedom is soooooo sweet!

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE EVENTS OF 2 KINGS 19:35
by Dansk inin 2 kings 19:35 (nwt) it states: "and it came about on that night that the angel of jehovah proceeded to go out and strike down a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the assyrians.
when people rose up early in the morning, why, there all of them were dead carcasses.".
the account goes on to say that, because of this, sennacherib, king of assyria, pulled away and took up dwelling in nineveh, whereafter two of his own sons put him to death and then esarhaddon, another son, began to reign.

Thanks for all that work, Dansk! It seemed to me pretty incredible that an angel would spend all night hacking, slicing and dicing people. You're right, myths have been taken to be literal and a whole bunch of us were "taken in" by Watchtower lies. Good work!

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I know what you mean about your mother's mortality - my mum is 81 and has just had two strokes and a heart attack. Her memory is practically gone and she's so feeble it's awful to see. And I have found myself thinking that it would be good to have that hope again, even if I now know it's false, just to get over these rough spots. Thinking that there is nothing after this life is not something I like to contemplate. I hope there is more, I just don't know.
I know I can't offer much in the way of advice, but am thinking of you and wishing you all the comfort you can possibly find, here on this board and in your "real" life.

Why aren't they in Montreal at the International Convention? People from as far away as New Brunswick are assigned to Montreal, and since they're not official "delegates", they not only have to spend 10-11 hours traveling to the city but they also have to pay for hotels once here, rather than bunk in with the "brothers and sisters", some of whom are relatives of the Maritimers.
Don't ya just love the organizing ability of the WTS? Also, after badgering the congregations about housing the delegates (it must have been mentioned at each service meeting since Frebruary), since each congregation was told to expect around 50 delegates, and not permitting others from cities such as Toronto to lodge with their friends/family, well lo and behold most congregations got maybe 8 people, so the powers-that-be scurried around and invited every Bethelite from Brooklyn to Walkill to come to Montreal and fill up the empty spaces.
Although it is such a grand privilege to house Bethelites, many expressed disappointment that they wouldn't be receiving African or Belgian brothers, or in many cases, their friends and family from other areas who still were not invited in spite of the rooms available.
Yup, great organizing ability that WTS has.

RAPE & GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by JT inthese are two words that are truly hard to use in the same sentence- i have had the opportunity to work with rape victims since leaving wt and i is unreal-.
in the old testament the god of the bible requires the woman to scream out, even if no one heards her- now this is an interesting bible verse- .
consider this ---here you have a woman or child who is under divine judgement to scream even if no one heards them in the village.

I'm so sorry for what you went through. An omnipotent god that needs to prove something to himself or to the angels and let children be abused this way is no god I want to know.
