  ok, lets have a discussion about where we all came from, evolution or creation?

  (or whatever you beleive in of course) every one put down there main reasons, along with reasonable facts and backup as to why.. .

  TopHat, you're rapidly becoming my favorite creationist, for the same reason that the poster "scholar" is my favorite JW defender.   TopHat refuses any attempt at understanding the most basic elements of evolution. In that aspect, she is still like many JWs. Unwilling to get out of the narrow confines of their religious straightjackets.

  hooberus: what the hell is a materialist evolutionist?

  I consider myself a spiritual evolutionist, as in Buddhist-Taoist spiritualism, which accepts evolution for what it is, science.

  Maybe you should read AuldSoul's and AlanF's discussion on intelligent design (uncapitalized) so that you can read my post on the definitions of theory, hypothesis, fact.

  Read a good book on Buddhism. It explains consciousness (from a Buddhist perspective), which is incredibly thought-provoking. What I particularly like is that God doesn't come into it at all and evolution is accepted.

  
  Ian, that is one of the many appealing aspects of Buddhism. And it is also something that flies in the face of what many creationists wail on so annoyingly about – that atheists cannot be spiritual.

  I took a look at the links you provided; tell me, is the following scientific in your opinion?

  "He also warned us that our thoughts are corrupted by sin. Therefore, we know that thoughts are not to be trusted when they disagree with Scripture."

  This is the chemist Safarti speaking about God. I suppose you already knew that. So please respond to my post concerning the above. Fossils, DNA and other evidence points to evolution as to the way in which life as we know it exists in the forms we see around us. But, you would have to reject said evidence merely because it disagrees with the Bible, wouldn’t you?

  BTW, are you a young earth creationist? an ID-er? You've probably been thoroughly thrashed in other threads on your views but I'd rather just hear about your beliefs from you.

  (I may only be able to respond to any other posts tomorrow since I'm at work right now)

  As I mentioned in my post, the evidence pointed to evolution. Would you kindly point me to other evidence I can look at which leads you to accept a creative sentient force? How would we know that this "force" is sentient? If a combination of various gases produces amino acids, are those gases sentient?
  
  Before I came to the “place” I’m at now, I liked the idea of a sentient force pervading the universe, sort of a cosmic, universal consciousness, if you will. But my liking the idea doesn’t make it so.
  
  I'm sure that most atheists would love to find evidence of sentience in the universe, but lacking that, we can only go on what we know, don’t you think?

  As for AiG, when a website specifically states that it has as an article of faith:

  No apparent, perceived or claimed evidence in any field, including history and chronology, can be valid if it contradicts the Scriptural record.

  then it loses any credibility. You conveniently overlooked that part. When the evidence (fossils, DNA, etc.) overwhelmingly points at an evolutionary progression to what we see around us today, AiG must categorically refuse to even consider such evidence since it contradicts the very purpose of the website.

  And as I mentioned to TopHat elsewhere, I used to think as she does, and as you evidently do, in creation. I used to read the AiG website. And other books. And other websites. Sat myself down at the library and read various encyclopedia articles. And to my great consternation, the evidence pointed to evolution. I didn't actually want it to be that way. I was quite comfortable thinking that there was some god/force/something-or-other out there who would grant me an afterlife. I didn't want to come to terms with the fact that this life was all I was going to get.

  I think that stops many believers from continuing their investigation and questioning about evolution. They can't face the alternative.

  As for me, I am so glad I kept an open mind. Everything makes so much sense now!

  Dubs out with kn37

  i just took the dog a walk, and saw 4 dubs at the top of our street, trying to place kn37.

  this is, of course, the first official day of thecampaign, so i expext to see a few more of them than usual over the next few days, but it's not often i see them at this time of day (3:10pm when i spotted them).

  they all know me, and when they saw me walking towards them with the dog, who does admittedly look a bit fearsome, being a pit bull/staffordshire bull terrier cross, they looked a little nervous, as if they thought i was going to set him on to them.

  Does anyone know when the dubs themselves had the great "privilege" of receiving the tract at the KHs? I ask because I mentioned it to a dub about a month ago, not realizing that the campaign hadn't even started yet . So I wonder if they had even received it; if not, she's probably wondering how on earth I knew what it was all about .

  as far as i can see, they have just made it harder for them.

  now they are expected to have the kids, work full time, clean house, cook, babysit, taxi drive, nurse, etc., i think they have done us a disservice, by trying to be `equal` to men in the workplace.

  acsot- get a life, you haven`t got anything to say for yourself, you just latch onto other people`s posts, and join the bullies, there`s a problem on here with that.

  I really believe you need help. You're spiteful and bitter when people disagree with you, and you attack and insult and then cry foul when you're called on it, like I did when you (once again) made sweeping generalizations about people.
