What would you do?

i went to my 1st apointment with my surgeon today.

my scheduled apointment was at 10:30am.

my primary care doctor made the apointment over a week ago.

Unless I had another time constraint (which I usually make sure I don't have if I need to see a Dr), then I would have just waited the extra time to see the Dr and get it done with. You're only going to have to wait again next time.

Punctuality, while a nice thing, has nothing to do with the medical skill of the Dr. In fact I've found that the most punctual ones tend to spend little time with you, don't check you properly (if they do at all), don't listen to you and have even given a misdiagnosis as a result.

Of course, if you have reasons to believe the surgeon is not a good one, definitely chose another one, but don't just base it on the fact he or she isn't punctual.

And always make sure you take plenty of things to do when you go to the Dr. That way the time goes more quickly!

All the best with your surgery. Hope it all works out.

Thanks for posting. That is horrific. As I looked through the "comic" all I could think is how as a kid we were slammed for reading or watching violent comics. This one is even worse. In a commercial context it would never be allowed in the kiddy section or anywhere near them! So, so bad.

when i was about 6/7 there was a talk that made reference to the violence of teenage mutant ninja turtles.

when we got home, all my tmnj figures were packed up into a plastic bag and put away in the loft.

at least they weren't thrown in a wheelie bin.. when i was about 13 there was a local needs (yes, a whole talk) on the evils of pokemon, complete with the statement that pokemon was short for pocket demons (not true) no more pokemon blue for me.. i remember explaining to my pe (gym) teacher, in front of my whole class, that i could not play for the football (soccer!

Do you really want to get me started on this? I'm still discovering more stuff I missed as a kid

Let's see...

No birthday parties

Explaining to friends why birthdays were bad

No eating at school

Telling friends why I couldn't accept their Christmas present or even their card

Placing a Creation book on my desk at school hoping people would notice

Telling science teacher they should teach creation in their class

Not going on school trips if they were out of school hours, even if only a day trip. (Who knows what naughties ten year olds can get up to on a bus)

Longer school trips - out of the question (Again told ten year olds could be quite horny!)

Refusing to salute the flag in front of everyone

Making snowmen instead of Santas at school

Making something else for any of those pagan cards, including Mothers Day cards

Being in tears when did one of them and found out later wasn't supposed to

No school plays, had to sit and watch everyone rehearse and dress up - couldn't even help make the costumes

No school assemblies and sometimes even no religious education classes or sex education classes

No vaccinations

No swearing

No studying anything that went against certain 'values'

Constantly being asked by classsmates why not doing any of the above

No after-school sports

No going to friends houses

All friendships stopped at the school gate

Having to knock on classmates doors on Saturday mornings

No Saturday morning TV - ever - not once

No smurfs and several other popular toys - the more popular it was, the more likely it was demonised

No Scooby-Doo

No Food Cake or anything with 'questionable' names

No nothing with a hint of violence, magic or all the rest

No prom

No graduation

No university (despite top grades)

What's the worst of it all? Just like poor little Caleb, I too was never told I couldn't do any of that. It was all 'my' decision.

And I wasn't even in an ultra dubby family. Or so I thought.

Falling asleep praying...did you?

i remember there being 'admonition(tm)' from the platform about how disrespectful it is to sky twat jar hoover if we nod off when speaking to our imaginary despot god.. i was always nodding off when praying.

i noticed in the end it didn't matter if i prayed or not the results were always equally disappointing snooze or not!.

I prayed myself to sleep practically every night. When we were made to feel guilty about it, I just started doing my prayers back to front beginning with 'in Jesus name'...

Does the borg really produce great readers? How much did you actually read when in?

i've been reading a lot and learning even more (project deadlines to meet), getting this overwhelming satisfaction and feeling good.. and then i stopped and realised that i never got that feeling when reading borg publications.. i also realized that i have probably read more non-fiction books in the last month than i did during my whole life in the borg.. for all my reading (and i was fully in) i read no more than two wt books cover to cover.

none of my study books were studied cover to cover and wts were usually quickly underlined and rarely properly studied.

magazines were usually flicked through and resolutions to read them cover to cover rarely lasted more than a few weeks.. i did manage to read the bible through once - but that was because i was always afraid someone door to door would ask me if i had, so i figured i should just crack on with it.

Lisa Rose, I hope you can find an online cause that can suit you. Learning and studying is actually very liberating. Sometimes I almost feel like a dry sponge just absorbing all the knowledge I can. And it feels so so good!

Sophie and Julia, I totally agree with the pure enjoyment of reading something that has been beautifully written (I often choose my fiction based on it's literary style) and just entering into the story and getting totally absorbed in it.

That's something you never get in WT pubs and as I write I'm just wondering : maybe that's why they always hastle us to meditate. I mean WT meditation is more like forcibly putting yourself into a story, which just goes to show how badly WT stuff is written. I mean how many stories do you know where the author writes on the back of the book - 'you must stop and meditate as you read this story'? The publisher would just laugh the author out of his office and bin the manuscript!

Your last comment jgnat is really interesting. It reminds me of Taylorism when everything became streamlined and efficiency was key. Worker satisfaction and sense of accomplishment didn't come high in company targets, but then again, it doesn't either in WT land.

Here's the perfect example of that (also a continuation of your idea) and reminds me of visiting bethel factories when I was a kid!

I read a lot of fiction when I was in, also a way to escape, but even if what I was reading was totally tame, I couldn't even talk about that to my service partners as they would always tell me how they never had time to read anything other than WT stuff. Some had even deliberately given up reading fiction as it was too distracting for them.

Even though I was all in at the time, I knew I would never sink to such lows. I just decided to shut my mouth and keep reading. And like you, George, I just skimmed anything WT to keep myself covered.
