All JWs need to watch this great documentary...it may give them pause for thought.
by deanxxx ini know how hard it is to awaken people still inside the cult bubble.
there are many reasons for this, chief among them the unwillingness to read or watch anything critical of their religion.
on the other hand, jws love few things more than hearing bad stuff about other faith groups.

One film that helped me was a BBC piece on the Exclusive Brethren. The similarities were so striking that I stopped watching it a couple of times worried that I was being "tricked into watching an apostate video" even though it was not about Witnesses at all! It also helped someone else I knew leave. If you have ever read the second or third (can't remember now) Steve Hassan books he talks about how building trust and not putting down the loved ones cult is important but that introducing information on other groups can be very effective psychologically in freeing a loved one from a cult. I know it is easy to get discouraged and think that no one is going to change or wake-up......but we all did......so it's still possible. And getting someone engaged in seeing how egregious the actions of another cult are (with the possibility of them somehow identifying with it) can be effective, I speak from experience -

As a JW Did You Often Feel "Guilty" About Something?
by minimus inif muslim is supposed to be the religion of peace, jehovah's witnesses has to be the religion of guilt..

Yep, I was perpetually guilty. Even as a very very young child. I remember agonizing guilt over things I didn't do. I had obsessive compulsive disorder so badly that every time I was asked a yes or no question around the age of 5, I would say the answer "yes" or "no" followed by an "I think" just to make sure I was not lying. Then my parents noticed all the "I thinks" and told me not to say "I think" anymore. So then I would just mutter it under my breath or say it quietly when they or someone else walked away, then I got to feel guilty for not listening to my parents when they had told me to stop. The list of things I felt guilty about is long and all just as silly as what I describe above. I was a nearly perfect kid too! :(

Glaring discrepency in Blood Doctrine
by kjg132 ini found an article on the dr. sears website about the benefits of breasfeeding.
according to the article it says: "a drop of breastmilk contains about one million white blood cells.
" it also says "colostrum also contains higher amounts of white blood cells..........than mature milk.

TD, I didn't know about the SCC test either. But I do know about cows at bethel! My older brother was at the farm for a few years and I loved visiting the cows:) It would make sense that if its a standard test they would have used it there too. I wonder if the person doing the testing knew what they were testing for. Someone, possibly many, people had to know.

AndDontCallMeShirley....Wow thanks for the info. I am a nursing student and recently completed Anatomy and Physiology. What you are pointing out about blood being connective tissue makes complete sense, I feel silly for not having connected the dots already! Also, I wonder why more JWs don't wake up when they read about the Jews eating marrow? Of course marrow contains blood, its crazy.

AndDontCallMeShirley.....really good point there too. I have done a lot of research in my 3-4 out but sometimes I still come across things that surprise me. I don't remember coming across the point that if the animal was already expired there was no need to bleed it. It is a good point. The few relatives and one friend that still talk to me avoid talking to me about anything JW anymore but it would be good to get that out somehow. The blood doctrine is one of the more damaging policies obviously because it involves people's lives.

Thanks for all the input guys. I know there is a lot of holes in the blood doctrine, especially pertaining to fractions. But what is glaring to me is that white blood cells are Not fractions, they are one of the four major components of blood that are forbidden under any circumstances. It is also totally forbidden to store your own blood or that of a family members, like your Mother's. Yet when the baby drinks, he/she is drinking white blood cells. So if a baby or a child gets a disease where their white blood cell count is low and needs a transfusion of white blood cells this is still forbidden even if the child were given their Mother's blood. I don't see where this portion of the doctrine can be explained away with all the mental gymnastics in the world. I so want to say something to some of my family, there are two especially that this would really make them think...maybe I will find a way to do it without bringing up the doctrine at all, and maybe it will cause them to think a little about it.
Crazyguy...I would think you are on the right track there. I think I'd like to research it and find out.

I found an article on the Dr. Sears website about the benefits of breasfeeding. According to the article it says: "A Drop of breastmilk contains about one million white blood cells." It also says "Colostrum also contains higher amounts of white blood cells..........than mature milk." If I understand the current doctrine correctly, the policy is not to recieve transfused white blood cells. Also it would be unacceptable for a mother to donate blood, even white blood cells, since it is one of the 4 primary components, to her child. To me this is glaring. The baby is literally drinking, ingesting, the white blood cells. Witnesses have long made the argument that drinking and transfusion are the same abhorrant act. I would love to be able to talk about this with my family and friends that are still in but I know it would not be well recieved. I really don't understand how the blood doctrine could hold up under this.

"The Friends"
by FeelingFree ini have only come across this term very recently on jwn and in an "apostate" video i watched yesterday.
never have i heard anyone refer to jw's as "the friends" here in the uk.
is it just used in america?.
-
kjg132
Yes it is very common here in the US. An example would be saying something like "I'm going to go to lunch with some of the friends after the meeting" or "The friends in portland are organizing a get-together" Get-together is another buzzword here in the US meaning a witness gathering

Spanking VS. Reasoning
by SpeedRacer ini am having a discussion at work with the jw's.
should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.
they both agree with spanking.

Being out of the religion changed my viewpoint. NO SPANKING. Hitting is wrong
