Diddling, adjusting, changing Doctrines? Why not leave it alone?
by Terry ini have kept on asking myself why the jw's put targets on themselves by constant diddling with their own doctrines?
why not leave it alone?.
mainstream christianity has fixed teachings.
-

They don't have fixed teachings because it's a way of weeding out the disloyal ones. Only those who are truly loyal will remain. -

Can a DFed person donate?
by Lostandfound inrereading a post re the shunning wt in feb made me think, do the wt accept money from the dead?
not inheritances but from the "living dead" as they perceive df and da people to be.. personally i think they accept or more correctly badger members who are really brain dead into giving.
or do attendants guard contribution boxes to stop such non existent people from putting money in.

If they encourage children to donate their ice cream money, then I'm sure they have no problem taking it from the Disfellowshipped person. -

Will the Borg ever do what the WCG did?
by tornapart inwhilst not endorsing any of the beliefs or doctrines of this group i found it really interesting that once herbert armstrong died it had a major overhaul of it's beliefs and practices (very similar in a cultish way to jws).
apologising for it's errors and putting things right.
it became less judgemental, more encompassing of other christian faiths.

I have often thought of this myself, but after WCG became Grace Communion International and strayed from Herbert Armstrong's teachings many divisions occurred. Those who wanted to stick with the original teachings formed their own congregations and they are aired on my local TV stations. So if this were to happen to the Watchtower, there would probably be a liberal Jehovah's Witness Movement and a "Restored" Jehovah's Witness movement aka conservative cult like. -

The memorial beauty pageant
by BlackWolf insince the memorial is coming up soon and its about time for me to go shopping for a new memorial ( aka easter) dress, i've realized what the memorial really is for us teenage girls, a beauty pageant!
the memorial is the day i spend painting my nails, curling my hair, and carefully applying makeup because my mother says i have to "represent jehovah" and look my best.
in reality its just to impress the newcomers and to compete with the other girls.

Yes, so true, especially about the middle aged sisters with their super high heels and above the knee skirts. -

I'm surprised they even made this into a maze. I would have thought they would make it a simple straight line. To make sure the coin makes it easily to the society. Cha-ching -

I dont know how i can leave my family!
by BlackWolf inmy mom and i were talking today about how next summer i will be 18 and she said that just thinking about it might make her cry.
that made me think about how much more it would hurt her if i quit being a jw.
i really do love my parents, i know they are just being cruelly manipulated by a cult and that they really think they are doing what is best for me.

Just make sure you're stable as in having money/ a place to live in mind maybe with a roommate or on a college campus, before you break the news. I would suggest leaving in the same manner the guy in the prodigal son returns video did.... Ya know for.... "Career Opportunities". :-)
Enjoy YOUR life... You only get one! Best wishes

Got my memorial invite yesterday...
by OneEyedJoe ini wasn't sure how this would be handled since the elders haven't harassed me as much as a lot of others have gotten, plus we live a ways outside of the territory so i figured there was a shot they'd leave me alone since it's inconvenient.
guess not.
two elders showed up unannounced toward the end of their recruiting shift.

Chronic relapse - what do I do?
by wayoutthere inmy first post here and unfortunately it is asking for help.. i was a born in jehovah's witness and from my earliest memories, i know i hated being one.
i hated the embarrassment of being the "outsider" at school and i hated not being allowed to have any friends.
of course i had the obligatory friends in the kingdom hall - none of whom were my age exactly and none of whom i would have personally chosen to be friends with if i had been left to pick them myself in a natural setting.

You sound like a fugitive that just saw their photo on a wanted poster. I suppose you're feeling a bit exposed now? Now, that your "secret" was leaked? I think this is a good way for you to move forward. You kept this past life in the dark and never really acknowledged it. But when the secret was exposed light shone in on the dark. I believe the more you talk about that secret you take away its power. Let your eyes adjust to the light, keep talking about it. It's time to do some mental grooming and housekeeping. Maybe you will benefit from talk therapy or CBT therapy.
You said your self confidence crashed I say to this: what people think of you is none of your business. What they think, good or bad, does not diminish your worth. I think you worry more about how people perceive you. Why was it so important for you to keep this hidden?
