  I often wonder if my obesity and low self esteem is partially linked to the fact that I was not allowed extracurricular activities. I was asked to come join the dance team when I was in high school. I also wanted to join the pep squad. (Since I attended an all-girl school, we didn't have cheerleaders.)

  just thought i would share another hurdle over in the road to recovery from dubdom.

  i now sport a fashionable, neatly trimmed goatee and i do not worry about bumping into jw's.

  took me over 2 years to crack that one..... now as mine looks exactly like sparlocks (grey too), does anyone know where i can get a hat like his??

  there have been a number of threads on jwn discussing this, and the article collates and summarises the points raised in these threads.

  Technically, you only have one birthday which is the actual day that you were born. All the other "birthdays" are anniversaries of your birth.

  1. JW celebrate wedding anniversaries.

  2. JW celebrate anniversary of Jesus' death aka Memorial.

  3. So what if it's pagan? Many JW still follow pagan customs for weddings and for life in general.

  4. Just because it isn't mentioned in the bible doesn't mean that it didn't happen. Maybe celebrating birthdays was such an everyday thing that it wasn't necessary to document it.

  I remember when I turned 16, I just knew my mother was going to do something special. I wasn't expecting a party, just a mother/daughter lunch or something because, y'know, 16 is a special age to be. Nope, nada, nothing. I was hurt. I mean, no acknowlegement at all.

  After reading the Satanic bible by LaVey, I decided to celebrate / acknowledge birthdays.

  i collect pretty much any figure in the 3.75 scale.

  my favorites are marvel universe, star wars, indiana jones, and gi joe.

  dc is also coming out with an incredible line pretty soon.

  Introducing Mrs Cedars...

  i just thought you should know that mrs cedars has finally taken the plunge and joined the forum.

  she was able to log on for the first time yesterday.. though we both "awakened" at different stages, mrs cedars was very supportive and non-judgmental when i first began exploring my beliefs from a critical standpoint.

  she is currently in the process of reading crisis of conscience and aquainting herself with some of the facts of witness history that were hitherto unknown.

  for me the best "cause" was soy, yes soy apparantly turns people into homosexuals, lmao!.

  what would really be funny is if someone who has an account could post some more insane stuff like that, like "playing with smurfs or my little pony causes homosexuality" or "eating too many cheese curls".lol.

  From a purely scientific viewpoint, I'm interested to know what causes homosexuality. And I don't mean that in a bad way so please don't take offense.

  My views on marriage equality have definitely changed. The arguements folks use against gay marriage are the same they used against interracial marriage. This is why I feel that a federal law FOR gay marriage should be passed. Each state doing its own thing is slow progress, too slow.

  sB, sounds like what my mother did when I told her I was a witch. She quoted scriptures and WT article, blah blah blah. this forum is my therapy but of course, if you see the need to seek professional help, please do so. The last article that said the guy was guy but he said in truth he was a pervert...I just can't believe this dribble. Gay doesn't equal pervert. Child molesters = pervert. People who abuse animals = pervert.

  Really? who says? They can be the most spiritual people in the world. What if they just aren't clicking anymore? Is it better to be married miserably?

  of course everyone knows about the news of the candace conti child abuse case which has gone viral , ( one would have to live in a cave, under a rock, or another planet not to know about it ).

  that being said - it may very well be that those jehovah's witnesses who do not use the internet, or read newspapers, or in simple english are neanderthal's, still living in the 19th century or before , out of fear of negative reprisal from wt authorities may have not even heard about this case because they are in the habit of not watching the news or using the internet.. so- with those particular type of people in mind my son flipper jr. & myself decided to print up about 20 copies of the candace conti child abuse lawsuit from the england daily mail issue , here's the link : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2160605/candance-conti-molested-jehovahs-witnesses-member-age-nine-wins-28milion.html?ito=feeds-newsxml .. so what we did is since we are doing some out of town jobs in several counties we figured we'd leave these child abuse news releases under jw car windshields at kingdom halls while they are out in field service.

  we left about 15 so far at 3 different kingdom halls under car windshields .

  WTBS and reporting child abuse

  wtbs says to contact their legal dept if suspected child abuse is suspected.

  in md, you are a mandatory reporter if a health worker, educator, human service worker, or police officer.

  so what if you are a mandatory reporter and a jw, what then?

So what if you are a mandatory reporter and a JW, what then? Are they counciled to follow Caesar's laws in this case? or does WTBS override the laws of the land?

  More info on reporting in MD from www.childwelfare.gov:

  A minister of the gospel, clergy member, or priest of an established church of any denomination is not required to provide notice [when they have reason to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect] if the notice would disclose matter in relation to any communication that is protected by the clergy-penitent privilege and:

  -The communication was made to the minister, clergy member, or priest in a professional character in the course of discipline enjoined by the church to which the minister, clergy member, or priest belongs.

  -The minister, clergy member, or priest is bound to maintain the confidentiality of that communication under canon law, church doctrine, or practice.

  I gather from this that unfortunately, if a JW confesses to an elder that s/he abused a child or if comes out in a judicial committee meeting, that communication is priviledged and does NOT have to be reported. However if confessed to a Bro. Anybody or overheard, that person has the obligation to report although not mandated by law. Legalities aside, it should be a moral obligation to make all good faith reports of this abhorrent behavior to the proper authorities.
