Marriage
by Kool Jo inso i was just thinking...since many of us became aware of the real truth about the wtbs, many have also questioned the existence of a god, the truthfulness of the bible/holy books and the many practices associated with religion/christianity.... .
some have started to celebrate birthdays, christmas ect after leaving the borg...for those out there, i have a question regarding marriage:.
1. do you still think that marriage is important?

Marriage is important from a legal standpoint. From a religious / spirtual standpoint, it's only as important as the parties involved make it. I teach my son that having sex without being able to take care of yourself, your partner, and any resulting children is frowned upon. He's 16. I also tell him that it's preferable to be in a committed relationship. I do NOT tell him that it is necessary to be married. My 20 yr old daughter lives with her boyfriend. I disprove only because I don't like him and I think he is wrong for her. But she's grown, and it's none of my business. I'm going to visit them for her 21st birthday.
And yes, I fully support persons living together without being legally married.

Now that I've lost my lunch -
So if women are submissive to men, a JW wife who is forbidden to go to the KH by worldly hubs is excused, right?
If women are so stupid, why is car insurance cheaper? Yes, we have smaller heads but we also have smaller body frames; the average woman is smaller than the average man. Oh, and what's the deal with comparing women's brains to starving African children? Smells of racism and sexism. And the GB needs to stay the fark out of my moontime. I betcha none of them can bleed for 7 days straight without passing out.

Add your favorite JW prayer cliche'
by King Solomon inyou know what i'm talking about: the trite, often-repeated phrases that convey the person offering the prayer has drawn a mental blank, and utters these words while their brain desperately searches for the next cliche', so they can conclude the ritual with the required tag, "in jesus' name we pray".... (is that like the postage stamp?).
ok, i'll kick this one off, and take the most obvious:.
"forgive us where we fall short....".

measure of your holy spirit to...
we gather here today...
I can't think of anymore; it's been so long.
I always wanted to say, so be it or so mote it be instead of amen. Means the same thing, right?
"How are you today, God?" *booming voice*"How dare you ask! I'm much too high and almighty to listen to your puny questions!!! *thunder and lightening*

I often wonder if my obesity and low self esteem is partially linked to the fact that I was not allowed extracurricular activities. I was asked to come join the dance team when I was in high school. I also wanted to join the pep squad. (Since I attended an all-girl school, we didn't have cheerleaders.)

New Article - Birthdays, Why the Watchtower stance is wrong
by jwfacts ini have a new article at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/birthdays.php outlining why the watchtower stance against birthdays is wrong.
there have been a number of threads on jwn discussing this, and the article collates and summarises the points raised in these threads.
please feel free to point out any errors in grammar or logic.

Technically, you only have one birthday which is the actual day that you were born. All the other "birthdays" are anniversaries of your birth.
1. JW celebrate wedding anniversaries.
2. JW celebrate anniversary of Jesus' death aka Memorial.
3. So what if it's pagan? Many JW still follow pagan customs for weddings and for life in general.
4. Just because it isn't mentioned in the bible doesn't mean that it didn't happen. Maybe celebrating birthdays was such an everyday thing that it wasn't necessary to document it.
I remember when I turned 16, I just knew my mother was going to do something special. I wasn't expecting a party, just a mother/daughter lunch or something because, y'know, 16 is a special age to be. Nope, nada, nothing. I was hurt. I mean, no acknowlegement at all.
After reading the Satanic bible by LaVey, I decided to celebrate / acknowledge birthdays.
