I'm Buddhist and Pagan. It just made more sense to me. Once I found that the JW was lying, I did research on other religions for myself. Pagan is not a bad word, just like apostate.

? Curious: How many Jehovah's Witnesses leave to join "non-christian" religions, ie; Wicca, Pagan, Satanists, Buddists, Hindu, etc. ?
by Balaamsass init may seem a strange question, but when i served as an elder i personally knew of about a dozen elders and servants children who joined various wicca groups or became buddists rather than leave to become agnostic or another "christian" denomination.. the ones who became involved with witchcraft did so in groups of jw children intregued by all the talk of satan's and the demon's power etc.
in the org.. the future buddists seemed turned off by the politics, and mean spiritness in halls.. i just thought of this after seeing the new dismal yearbook numbers and looking at facebook pages of some of the ex jws i know.. was this simply a california thing or is it worldwide?.

What's The Main Reason You Do Not Believe That The Witnesses Are The Best Religion?
by minimus insome people leave because they are fed up with the elders.
others have personality issues.
some have doctrinal and prophecy reasons.

The whole shunning thing and no holidays. JWs do everything to section off its followers. It's a cult.

I have over 500 My Little Ponies and over 100 Cabbage Patch Kids. Anyone remember the JW urban legend about CPKs walking out of the KH like Smurfs?

Small Victories!
by emperorslaundrist inmy husband's cult personality has relaxed since he's been seeing me go out in service and underline my watchtower, so yesterday it felt right to nudge him just a little more.
"you know, i normally love the watchtower articles but the one i'm studying for tomorrow is just crazy.
i'm beginning to think that there's a narcissist somewhere in the writing department.

what study article was this? this can so be applied to baptism. You realize that you can't keep the vow of being associated with JW. according to this article, God says "ok, no worries, you're imperfect." Being a 16 yr old single mom, I'm sure I didn't think about promises that I was unable to fulfill.

January 2013 warns parents to resist contact with df'd children again
by stuckinlimbo insee page 15-16. full of "straw men" like:.
* do not blame yourself it is the child that jehovah blames - parents do not care whose fault it is they just want their child not to be killed by god.
* it is ok for parents to hope their df'd child returns - was anybody really asking if that was wrong?.

So this is why my mother hasn't been returning my emails. The last one I sent had to do with the child abuse procedures.
This reminds me of that scripture that says how can you claim to love god that you cannot see when you don't love your brother (or other family member) that you can see.

Which of the 5 weekly meetings did you hate the most?
by RULES & REGULATIONS init was always stressed that the five weekly meetings were like the fingers on your hand.
each one was just as important as the next.
which of the meetings were the most boring, bothersome and difficult to listen to?
-

Like a PP said, how they count 5 meetings when we only had 3? It irked me when after the mid song for PT/WT and TS/SM, they would say welcome to [whatever] meeting, like it was separate.
-Bookstudy (1 hr format). It was right around the corner from our house. So in the summer time, we had to walk in meeting clothes past all the neighborhood kids. So.Embarrassing.
-School. I hate people. I hate being in front of people. Imagine my discomfort when paired with one of the more fashionable young people when I myself was poor and had very few meeting clothes to wear.
-Service Meeting. Boring. Period. The only time it was interesting was when the hotel letter for the conventions was read. everyone would rush home so they could get a room in the closest hotel.
-public talk. interesting depending on the speaker. I appreciated the ones (who I thought) did extra research to insert trivia or interesting points.
-WT study. Remember when wbts said to study the lesson 3 times? once in personal study, twice for family study, and then thrice with the congregation. talk about brainwashing. I'll admit, I used to study with different color highlighters. Oh and don't forget the congregations that had very young people. the conductor would ALWAYS ask a no-brainer:
conductor: and what is the name of God's son? *looks over audience* Um, I'm looking for a little hand for this one *audience fills with parental whispers and elbow-prodding* Ah yes, Little Sister Barely-Can-Talk?
brat: DEEEETZZZZ
conductor: ok, one more time
brat: DEEEEEETTTTSEZZZZZ!!!
mom of brat: She said Jesus
*audience cooing and ahhh'ing*

Your mailbox flag -- up or down -- and why?
by FatFreek 2005 inhere in the states most folks i know put the flag up to alert the carrier that there's mail to pick up.. interestingly, i watched a british film, early 1940's, where the carrier placed a letter in the box and raised the flag, that to alert the resident that he had mail.. the more i thought about that the more the british way makes sense (is that how it's done today in great britain?)..

The flag goes up both to alert the carrier to pick up mail and to alert the resident that s/he has mail.
