Evolution vs Creation and spontaneous generation
by MrMoe inplease read it all, i know it's a bit long, but you need to read it all to see where i am coming from.
i beleive in creation in the sense that the big bang and spontaneous generation don't make logical sense to me.
i am sure funkyderek and jan will have some fun with me on this one.

Who is a Prodigal Son?
by Thirdson inon occasion i have commented on the difference between the compassion of jesus and the lack of mercy shown by the wts.
i had reason to reread the story of the prodigal son recently and i thought id compare the wts writing in the greatest man book to what i take the parable to mean.. you know the story jesus told.
boy leaves home with his inheritance, lives the good life, spends it all and hits rock-bottom.

how have YOU changed since leaving?
by idaho init's obvious that the sense of freedom is a dominant.
feeling among most persons here, but it would be .
interesting to hear in what way(s) you feel you .

lauralisa - loved your post. The comments about car groups
in field service made me laugh cuz I can relate! Hey, did you
ever see that movie "Stuart Saves His Family"? I loved
that movie.Hello to newbies - hungry4life and Karie.
The biggest change I notice right now in my life
since leaving the org is I am not as judgmental
and no longer have that "we/them" mentality about
people. JW's believe they are right and everyone
else is wrong and they have to recruit them into
the religion so they won't be destroyed at Armageddon. Now I can just enjoy people for who they are without
thinking I have to change them or recruit them.Quester

Does the WTS hold to the truth in love?
by CornerStone ini was reading my bible this morning,(some of us still do :) ), and i came across these verses;.
11he is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
12their responsibility is to equip gods people to do his work and build up the church, the body of christ, 13until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of gods son that we will be mature and full grown in the lord, measuring up to the full stature of christ.. 14then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.

Thanks for the good read, Ginny and CornerStone.
Why would fear, intimidation, and threats of disfellowshipping
to keep people in line be needed if JW's were really motivated
by love as they claim? Very revealing isn't it."Mama" doesn't allow her children to grow up and become
independent mature adults. She keeps them helpless dependent
babes. If you want to grow up, you gotta leave the nest.
I outgrew the jw religion and that's why I left.
I grew up.Quester

Question on anger
by claudia inhello everyone, i was wondering how those of you who are so angry .
deal with your anger?
i at times am consumed with anger at the wts, and to those who will tell me to just move on, well i did move on but its not so easy to totally dismiss everything when you still have family there.
-
Quester
Claudia,
I think anger is a necessary part of the whole
recovery process. So instead of trying to "keep from feeling anger,"
I would say have your anger and move through it,
find healthy safe nondestructive ways to deal with it.1. Physical exercise helps.
2. Journaling about it helps.
3. Talking about it with a safe person who understands helps.Anger is a stage to move through,
not get stuck in or avoid/deny.

Who/What Preached at Your Funeral?
by Sam Beli insomeone started an interesting thread about what music wed like played at our funeral.
the logical next step is to ask of what the funeral itself would consist.
since becoming an ex-jw i have been wondering what my wife (also now an ex-jw) would do if i preceded her in death.

I have thought about this and need
to put something in writing.I bought a book from the Unitarian
Universalist bookstore that has different
ideas on the topic."In Memoriam A Guide to Modern Funeral and
Memorial Services", By Edward Searlbookstore website:

Questions for JWs
by larc indear jw,.
i have some questions.
as i understand it, if armageddon came tomorrow, those that never heard the truth, in such places as india or china would either live through armageddon or die and be resurrected.
-
Quester
Larc, you must be up the same time as me.
You wrote: "The way I understood it is that
if you had no opportunity to learn the truth,
then if was not your fault, and you would find
yourself in the new world."Yes, I agree with that statement.
If you die in ignorance, BEFORE Armageddon,
jw's will say that you may be resurrected. But this does not apply to those alive when
Armageddon comes. JW's say that the only
survivors of Armageddon will be active faithful
JW's--and even that is only a "probably".Quester

What is faith REALLY?
by Silverleaf ini've been interested in the discussion on the 'for those of us who believe in god' thread and aguest wrote this:.
"we have been misled into understand what 'faith' really is.".
if we have all been misled, then can someone explain what exactly faith really is?
-
Quester
Ranchette quoted from October 1,2001 issue
of the watchtower: "As used in the Bible however
"faith" basically means total trust-complete,
unshakable confidence in God and his promises."As used by JW's "faith" means total trust--complete,
unshakable confidence in...THE ORG.Larc, If God really did speak to us as he spoke
to Abraham, I wonder if we would just think we were
crazy.I think God probably does speak to us, maybe not in
that sensational way, but in other ways and perhaps
we just dismiss it or discount it.To me, faith means believing enough to take the first
step and then the next and then thru experience we
come to know and experience God.Quester

The way I always understood it is if you
are alive when Armaggedon comes and you are
not an active faithful Jehovah's Witness you
will be destroyed with no hope of resurrection
because it is God's war, God doing the destroying. And even the active faithful JW's only get a
"probably" be concealed in the day of Jah's
anger.Never made any sense to me when I actually
thought about it.That creates a fear-based relationship with God,
not a love-based relationship.Quester
