I highly recommend reading The Bible Unearthed. I really enjoyed it and it does a great job of looking at what archaeology reveals about Israel's early history. As MP noted above there is little to no evidence of a mass of people being in the described locations. It also shows that in those days places like Jericho and Jericho weren't major landmarks, and many occasions where the best archaeological evidence available tells a very different story to that of the first few books of the bible.

I like readings lots of different things to hear different points of view, and I this was most excellent.

i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.

It sure is odd, and I am of course quite happy that I'm being left alone. It really does show how for the majority of JWs, especially elders, everything needs to be programmed in order to be successful. When they are left on their own, to be motivated by their own will, their focus is inward. This why when the CO comes, post visit there is a flurry of shepherding. Things soon fall back to how they were.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Australia formally charges former JW elder

former jehovah's elder on sex assault charge .

a former jehovah's witness elder who apologised to his alleged victim on facebook has been charged with two counts of indecent assault.

richard hill will appear in the heidelberg magistrate's court on march 1 over allegations that he sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl in 1981.. the victim, now 38, told fairfax media that mr hill did everything except penetrate her - ''he tried, but couldn't manage''.. she said she ''did not realise the gravity'' of what had happened until she was about 14.. at that point she told her mother, who could not act because of a jehovah's witness rule that allegations of sexual abuse would only be acted on if two elders witnessed it, she said.. much later, the victim confronted mr hill on facebook.

Some points to note for lurkers:

- This child abuser was appointed as an elder. According to JWs, elders are appointed by holy spirit.

- He only stepped down after she confronted him and it all came out.

- One of the questions asked of you before you are appointed as an elder is "Have you ever been involved at any time in the past with child sexual molestation?"

So either the elder lied when he answered no to that question, or the elders (via the holy spirit) knowingly appointed a man with a history of child abuse.

How many people in the congegation have visited, phoned, or texted?

Have Jehovah`s Witnesses Really Complied With The Law In The State Of Victoria Aust.?With Regard to "Working With Children Checks."?

i have my doubts that they have.my understanding is that only a select few such as elders have got wwcc after years of non compliance.i dont think the rank and file , the majority of jehovahs witnesses going from door to door have obtained one , and if that is indeed the case , then they are still breaking the law.

i would appreciate it if their is anyone in victoria who still attends meetings or knows anybody who does to either confirm or deny my claim.. last year on regional radio abc gippsland talkback radio host celine foenander dealt with the subject who has to obtain "working with children checks" and many callers responded.one in particular stood out to me ,a self employed carpet cleaner had to obtain one before he could continue in his business simply because their could be children at home when he called.their were many similar stories like that.i phoned up and explained to the switch girl about jw`s non compliance.they were very interested in what i had to say but sadly ran out of time and it didn`t go to air.. i`m sure that if the government knew that every baptized jehovah`s witness was considered a minister of religion ,and are required to go door to door to spread their message , then every adult would be required to obtain a wwc check.. i look forward to your comments.

just a recap.. i posted a thread yesterday about an exchange of e-mails with a well known and respected elder and c.o.

sibstitute in a spanish circuit somewhere in the u.s. the man is about 50, raised in the truth, belongs to a family where all men are at least elders.

he is proud to have forsaken his dream of becoming a doctor to serve jehovah.

What a very interesting exchange. JWs simply won't let anyting in through the shields, no matter how logical or true it is.

Can you maybe reduce it down to one or two simple questions? Ask him to explain how, in the light of Luke 21:8 Jehovah's Witnesses can have any claim on being the chosen ones. Maybe have a look through Slimboy's thread on difficult scriptures for JWs to explain. There is some excellent stuff in there.

JWstudy: Yes this the same guy. Became a lawyer with the full support of the bethel. It really shows the double standard of the WTS. Higher education is frowned upon unless it benefits them in some way...

This article will benefit only a few JWs. As soon as I saw the word 'apostate' in the opening paragraph, I thought "most JWs won't read past that." Any who read beyond that will, as Phizzy said, justify the accusations as they go through it. It might get some semiconscious class people asking more questions, they may realise that they are not alone in their doubts, especially as the conscious class are specifically mentioned.

The public who read it might ask their JW neighbour / workmate / relative about it. The JW will says it's all lies. This lends credence to what the article says about JWs not trusting anyone external to them.

Any publicity is good publicity.
