  ive just finished talkin on the phone to michelle my ex wife she has decided she has had enough.

  she has told them they all suffer from anxiety and paranoia because of the literature.

  thursday night is actualy her last night and michelle has written a letter saying she is very upset about the current literature because of its manipulative nature.. michelle is not one for letting the grass grow underfoot and has already made contacts with christian life ministries a charismatic group for her new spiritual home.

  Went to a meeting a few weeks ago.......

  well actually it wasnt a meeting, it was my grandma's funeral but it may as well been the 'special talk' for the year with all the bullshit they were spewing.. the 'brother' giving the 'eulogy' (haha..) was an elder from my former congregation, my parents current congregation and to my knowledge (i'm 99% sure) has never met or seen my grandmother before that day.

  neither had any of the other jw's that were there 'supporting' my family...well the jw family anyway, the rest of us dont need support since we are df'd.. i hadnt been to a meeting for almost 2 years now and i cant tell you how hard it was sitting through the twisting of scriptures and arrogance know it all attitude coming from the speaker.

  my bf and i just looked at each other in disgust while scripture after scripture was read to prove the dead are just dead and their soul is dead and all we have to do is wait till the ressurection if we want to see them again.

  Scully, thanks. Glad to help. If you could only see the devilish grin on my face when I write these . I am a little ashamed about pretending to be "Christian" (I now consider myself happily Athiest) but I figure this is my own form of "spiritual warfare!" Besides, I consider people on this board as part of my extended quotes team (since I use so much stuff that other post here), so when I use the "Victorian we" it does include some people here at JWD who are Christians. Having said that, I do believe in "do unto others" and "forgiveness" and all that, so I suppose in that sense I am an "Athiest with Christian values."

  Trauma_Hound, that seems to be what is happening, and I push them right into that "non-sequitor" as hard as possible. It is amazing though that after two email responses, young Ms. Turner still hasn't admitted -- to herself -- that the source of her anger is the author of the words: i.e. The Watchtower. That is why I get quite repetitive (remember "repetition for emphasis" in the TMS? ) because sooner or later they will make the mental leap and realize that yes, the Society's own words make them look ridiculous and destroys any credibility and claims of Divine Authority.

  Oh well, at least I have "planted a seed". I know that for me, if this type of "seed" were "planted" when I was a teenager, I would likely have never got baptized; or at the very least, left much sooner than I did. "I just want to give people the facts that I never had, is that so wrong?"

  I suspected that I was dealing with a teenage girl (don't ask me why, I just read between the lines). It looks like I was correct. Ms Turner actuall sent me another letter. This may be a record, since normally they only send the first naste letter then cower and don't respond to my sincere requests for more information/better understanding.

  Oh well, at least I have calmed her to the point where she says "thanks" at the close of the email. Here it is:

My mom is one and so is my brother. I attend the Kingdom Hall regurlarly. My mom has been a witness since I was 12. I just don't see why an individual and/or individuals wants to tear down Jehovah's organization. So much hate, so much hate. However, we feel it is important to respond to your most recent email to us, since it appears you still have a gross misunderstanding of us and our work at Quotes.JehovahsWitnesses.com.

  1. " You are looking at quotes that were in 1900 " -- Yes, we do have *A FEW* very old Watchtower quotes. We also have many very recent quotes. If by this remark you are characterizing our entire site as having only one-hundred year old quotes, your are very wrong. Furthermore, as stated clearly in the Frequently Asked Questions page, the age of the quotes is unimportant, since we are only concerned with the accuracy of the quotes when we collect them together, the age of the quotes is unimportant. As a side note, we know that the Watchtower Society themselves frequently use very old quotes from other religions when describing those other religions. It is no different that our work here. Finally, we also have some very new quotes, even from this year. Use the search function to search for "2002" or "2001" or "2000" to find them quickly.
  2. " I know you want to know my status..... " -- Thanks for sharing, but we never asked for your "status" since we make our collection of Watchtower quotes available to all people around the world, without concern for their "status".

If you perform this exercise you will find that we only have Watchtower Society quotes, and nothing else.
  7. " Power tripping. Like Satan did. " -- We fail to see how collecting quotes from the Watchtower is "power tripping". Power tripping, as we understand it, would be when someone attempts to seize authority which does not rightly belong to them, and then abuses that inappropriately gained authority. A very bad thing indeed. We would never be bold as to do that. Again, if you can prove us wrong, please contact us, as we do not want to do that and would make suitable corrections immediately.
  8. " May the Great Almighty Jehovah give you a chance to repent and turn your lives around. " -- Again, we don't understand what you mean here. Are you suggesting that we should cease and desist from collecting the words published by the Watchtower Society? That does not make sense, since Jehovah's Witnesses go around giving their material for free (at least, it is free in some countries) to the general public. Your words here would suggest that this publishing work should stop, which I don't think is what you meant to say. As for turning our lives around, again we are distressed that you are being judgemental without having even met us or taken the time to know what type of life we are living. But, as Jesus Christ instructs us, we will "turn the other cheek" and "forgive you Seventy-Seven times" despite you very mean words to us, and despite our warm Christian replies to you.
  9. " As for me, determined I shall be to walk in my integrity " -- That is wonderful. We give you every encouragement to do this, and remember that integrity -- to God and to yourself --is the most important thing in your life. Those are very sweet words.

Upon "reporting" him to my father, I was upset that my father wanted to know "how did I know, were MY eyes open?" -- DOH!!! BTW, Jesus Christ, why is there so much suffering in the world? To save you some time, here is the relevant section from the web page we referred to:

As far as we know, we are only librarians/historians who have collected information together, not Satanists. Interestingly, I understand that similar projects regarding other movements are similarly labelled "attacks by Satan" by members of those groups. In fact, some in the Catholic Church have, at one time, labelled Jehovah's Witnesses work as Satanic. We disagreed with the Catholic Church then, and we disagree with you now.

  "you are complaining about the Watchtower Society and the way its ran" Again, all "complaints" are completely absent from our website, which contains only Watchtower publications quotes. Ergo, "we" are not saying anything, ergo, "we" can not be complaining.

As for it being "apostate", you seem to be saying that Watchtower Society publications are apostate, since that is the only information at our website. By extension, your argument would suggest that the library at a Kingdom Hall is apostate, since it contains the same information. Obviously, such a conclusion would be ridiculous. Similarly, our site is not, and can not be, apostate.

  "Pretending to be Sheep when in actuality your in Wolves clothing" -- Again, our site is devoid of commentary. We are not pretending to be anything other than what we are: a collection of Watchtower publication quotes. That is what we are, and that is what we "pretend" to be.

I am an Anglican Christian, and I truly believe that the doctrines and interpretation of scripture is spot on. Goodness me you people don't even believe the Lord's Prayer, its written there as plain as day for you to read in the NT. That prayer is so universal I don't know why you find it repulsive.   You asked, "how reliable are these quotes?" and that is a perfectly valid
  question. Although we could go on at great length to explain to you that all

  that would not be as effective as would you determining the reliability of
  the quotes yourself. We strongly encourage you to do this, as we are totally

  contains Watchtower magazines starting at 1950, and Awake! magazines,
  yearbooks, and Kingdom Ministry starting at 1970. Any material from sources
  earlier than that is not available.

  (As an interesting side note, when the very first Watchtower CD-ROM was
  released in 1993, we complained to a JW friend that the older publications
  were not included, to which he responded that it was simply a manpower
  issue, and the next CD-ROM (1995) would have *ALL* the Watchtowers, right
  back to the 1880s. Three CD-ROMs later -- the latest was just released --
  and we still don't have that older material, and we suspect that it will
  *NEVER* be included on the CD-ROM.)

  So to answer your question: only the Watchtower Society can explain why some
  of the quotes at our website are not on the CD-ROM. They may claim that it
  is because of limited space on the CD-ROM, but those claims are, in our
  opinion, rather weak, and could easily be solved (e.g. a second CD-ROM with
  only the older publications could be published by itself. Once complete, it
  would never have to be changed, and the new CD-ROM releases would only have
  to contain the latest publications). It is also interesting to note that in
  at least one case, a relatively recent book is conspicuously absent from the
  CD-ROM: "Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God" which was published
  in 1966. Again, only the Watchtower Society can explain why this publication
  is not included (although we have our own hypothesis). Many quotes from this
  particular "missing" book can be found on our category "1975"

  The fact that some of the quotes on our site are missing from the CD-ROM is
  not meant as any sort of trick or deception on our part. Rather, we felt it
  is important to explain to any visitors to our site if the quote is not on
  the CD-ROM, so they won't waste time looking for it there. Instead, you will
  have to use other means to verify the quotes (which we *STRONGLY*
  encourage). Here are some ideas to get you started: Kingdom Hall library;
  antique and used bookstores; online auctions sites (i.e. ebay); or simply
  ask the JW person you are studying with.

  The last suggestion (ask the person studying with you) may prove to be a
  waste of time. Although there is a slim chance that this person will help
  you find & verify the material in question (and be perhaps surprised as you
  are); you are just as likely to hear them dismiss your sincere desire to
  research these matters as "a waste of time" or perhaps tell you that "you
  have been confused by Apostate lies (on the internet) and there is no point
  in further confusing you" or that "New Light has replaced Old Light and
  there is no point in you looking at the Old Light, and you are fortunate
  that you don't have to know about any of that silly Old Light". Of course,
  these arguments are probably offered sincerely, but they don't really answer
  anything and only serve to hide things. Furthermore, they do not agree with
  the many statements that the Watchtower has written which encourage people
  to verify their religion (see
  http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/verify.htm). It sometimes seems like the
  admonition to verify and test one's religion applies to every other
  religion, but not to JWs themselves (see
  http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/verify_not.htm).

  ok have taken advice and started own thread - actually feel a wee bit nervous about this - but what the heck!

  you only live once right **grin**.. i am from sydney australia - was brought up as a jw and have been disfellowshipped once...when i was 21 yo currently 29. i only came back in because i am terrified of armageddon.....living in fear is not good for the mind!!.

  does anyone else understand this fear???

  Blondie, I always enjoy your posts and respect your hard work and research.

  Having said that, I would like to offer a little "constructive criticism".

  Use the "QUOTE" feature in Simon's editor when making your post. (It is the little cartoon-like word-bubble in the editor tool-bar next to the "happy face" emoticon button. Just select the text that is WT material, then click the button... Voila!

  It will make your posts a bit easier to read, by differentating the WT's words from your comments.

  Again, I mean this in the nicest way and am not trying to nit-pick or start a fight.
