Went to a meeting a few weeks ago.......
by flower inwell actually it wasnt a meeting, it was my grandma's funeral but it may as well been the 'special talk' for the year with all the bullshit they were spewing.. the 'brother' giving the 'eulogy' (haha..) was an elder from my former congregation, my parents current congregation and to my knowledge (i'm 99% sure) has never met or seen my grandmother before that day.
neither had any of the other jw's that were there 'supporting' my family...well the jw family anyway, the rest of us dont need support since we are df'd.. i hadnt been to a meeting for almost 2 years now and i cant tell you how hard it was sitting through the twisting of scriptures and arrogance know it all attitude coming from the speaker.
my bf and i just looked at each other in disgust while scripture after scripture was read to prove the dead are just dead and their soul is dead and all we have to do is wait till the ressurection if we want to see them again.

flower, very sad to hear about your loss. You grandmother sounds very cool, and was true to herself, despite the WT. You should be proud (I am sure you are).

Scully, thanks. Glad to help. If you could only see the devilish grin on my face when I write these . I am a little ashamed about pretending to be "Christian" (I now consider myself happily Athiest) but I figure this is my own form of "spiritual warfare!" Besides, I consider people on this board as part of my extended quotes team (since I use so much stuff that other post here), so when I use the "Victorian we" it does include some people here at JWD who are Christians. Having said that, I do believe in "do unto others" and "forgiveness" and all that, so I suppose in that sense I am an "Athiest with Christian values."
Trauma_Hound, that seems to be what is happening, and I push them right into that "non-sequitor" as hard as possible. It is amazing though that after two email responses, young Ms. Turner still hasn't admitted -- to herself -- that the source of her anger is the author of the words: i.e. The Watchtower. That is why I get quite repetitive (remember "repetition for emphasis" in the TMS? ) because sooner or later they will make the mental leap and realize that yes, the Society's own words make them look ridiculous and destroys any credibility and claims of Divine Authority.
Oh well, at least I have "planted a seed". I know that for me, if this type of "seed" were "planted" when I was a teenager, I would likely have never got baptized; or at the very least, left much sooner than I did. "I just want to give people the facts that I never had, is that so wrong?"

One less bible study for them
by caballoSentado indear friends,.
my wife & i have some days ago talked to our maid, she had been studying the bible with a pioneer for almost a year & was beeing pressured into baptism.
we informed her all about the wt-un scandal & other things... she has just cancelled her study.
-
Quotes
The pioneer did tell her that she could not cancel it, that she had to get baptized because she had attended the meetings & was "in".
If this weren't so tragic and pathetic, it would be amazingly funny......
Oh, who am I trying to kid? It is funny!!!!!! LOL!
Good work there!

I suspected that I was dealing with a teenage girl (don't ask me why, I just read between the lines). It looks like I was correct. Ms Turner actuall sent me another letter. This may be a record, since normally they only send the first naste letter then cower and don't respond to my sincere requests for more information/better understanding.
Oh well, at least I have calmed her to the point where she says "thanks" at the close of the email. Here it is:
You are looking at quotes that were in 1900 lol. Anywayz, I know you want to know my status and my status is i'm not a Jehovah's witness yet. I am studying and am planning for baptism. My mom is one and so is my brother. I attend the Kingdom Hall regurlarly. My mom has been a witness since I was 12. And its sooo funny cause all the things you guys say how they treat you this and that, is soo untrue I couldn't have asked for a better loving group of brothers and sisters in the world. I just don't see why an individual and/or individuals wants to tear down Jehovah's organization. So much hate, so much hate. This is what Jehovah means with people being haughty and wanting to run everything and be heard. Power tripping. Like Satan did. May the Great Almighty Jehovah give you a chance to repent and turn your lives around. As for me, determined I shall be to walk in my integrity!!! Don't email me no more!!! Thanks
And here, as usualy, is my response:
Dear TEENA TURNER [email address removed] Thank you once again for writing to us. Of course, we will never send you any unsolicited email. However, we feel it is important to respond to your most recent email to us, since it appears you still have a gross misunderstanding of us and our work at Quotes.JehovahsWitnesses.com.
[email protected]- " You are looking at quotes that were in 1900 " -- Yes, we do have *A FEW* very old Watchtower quotes. We also have many very recent quotes. If by this remark you are characterizing our entire site as having only one-hundred year old quotes, your are very wrong. Furthermore, as stated clearly in the Frequently Asked Questions page, the age of the quotes is unimportant, since we are only concerned with the accuracy of the quotes when we collect them together, the age of the quotes is unimportant. As a side note, we know that the Watchtower Society themselves frequently use very old quotes from other religions when describing those other religions. It is no different that our work here. Finally, we also have some very new quotes, even from this year. Use the search function to search for "2002" or "2001" or "2000" to find them quickly.
- " I know you want to know my status..... " -- Thanks for sharing, but we never asked for your "status" since we make our collection of Watchtower quotes available to all people around the world, without concern for their "status".
- " And its sooo funny cause all the things you guys say how they treat you this and that " -- Again, we are perplexed here. We here at quotes have never said anything like this. We have never said anything, as a matter of fact. Think of us as librarians or perhaps collectors. Our web site does not contain any of our words, rather it contains only Watchtower quotes. Please -- PLEASE -- this is not the first time you have incorrectly referred to what "we said". Perhaps you are confusing us with someone else?
- " I couldn't have asked for a better loving group of brothers and sisters in the world " -- We are very happy that you are happy. As members of our small quotes collection team have travelled the world, we have found very nice and loving people in many, many different countries and religions. On the whole, our experience has been that people are either "nice" or "not nice" as people, and their religion often has little to do with it. On the other hand, we have found people who were lacking Christian love in many, many religions, including, unfortunately, some in Jehovah's Witnesses. Again, we are pleased that you are with a group of caring, loving people who are concerned for your health and happiness, for that is truly a blessing.
- " I just don't see why an individual and/or individuals wants to tear down Jehovah's organization. " -- We really have no comment here, except to say that we want to make sure that you understand that we have never said that. Simply collecting quotes from the Watchtower sounds like what all Witnesses do as they build up their library. We do not make any negative statements, since we do not make any statements. As we stated in point three (above) you still seem fixated on chastising us for statements we did not make. Why are you doing this?
- " This is what Jehovah means with people being haughty and wanting to run everything and be heard " -- If you are saying that it is haughty for any mere human, or group of humans, to claim Divine Superiority over the rest of humanity, we agree with you. If, on the other hand, you are suggesting that this is what we are doing, again, we challenge you to reconsider this and prove, using only our web page, that this is what we are doing. If you perform this exercise you will find that we only have Watchtower Society quotes, and nothing else.
- " Power tripping. Like Satan did. " -- We fail to see how collecting quotes from the Watchtower is "power tripping". Power tripping, as we understand it, would be when someone attempts to seize authority which does not rightly belong to them, and then abuses that inappropriately gained authority. A very bad thing indeed. We would never be bold as to do that. Again, if you can prove us wrong, please contact us, as we do not want to do that and would make suitable corrections immediately.
- " May the Great Almighty Jehovah give you a chance to repent and turn your lives around. " -- Again, we don't understand what you mean here. Are you suggesting that we should cease and desist from collecting the words published by the Watchtower Society? That does not make sense, since Jehovah's Witnesses go around giving their material for free (at least, it is free in some countries) to the general public. Your words here would suggest that this publishing work should stop, which I don't think is what you meant to say. As for turning our lives around, again we are distressed that you are being judgemental without having even met us or taken the time to know what type of life we are living. But, as Jesus Christ instructs us, we will "turn the other cheek" and "forgive you Seventy-Seven times" despite you very mean words to us, and despite our warm Christian replies to you.
- " As for me, determined I shall be to walk in my integrity " -- That is wonderful. We give you every encouragement to do this, and remember that integrity -- to God and to yourself --is the most important thing in your life. Those are very sweet words.

jgnat, Yes it does feel good. Like snatching someone from the jaws of death!
fredom96, thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
Jesus Christ, and Reborn2002, yup, they seem to be in the same situation when I was a kid and I "caught" one of my brothers with his eyes open during the prayer. Upon "reporting" him to my father, I was upset that my father wanted to know "how did I know, were MY eyes open?" -- DOH!!! BTW, Jesus Christ, why is there so much suffering in the world? (sorry, I couldn't resist).
RunningMan, speaking from my experience, it was the WT's own words that had the greatest effect on me, so that is why I created the site. Yup, it is hard for them to deal with their own words! BTW, I loved your movie starring Arnold (sorry, I couldn't resist).
rem, Great Idea, I will add it to the "to do" list. BTW, I love your music, especially "Nightswimming" on the Automatic for the People album!
Random Task, usually I don't hear back. Today was an exception, I just posted the follow-up.
Gig, Yup, I have found that when you actually behave like a "Christian" and "turn the other cheek" it really throws them for a loop. "You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar" BTW, you are about a thousand times bigger than your cousin, "meg". (sorry, I couldn't resist).

ThiChi, Many thanks! I think that is the nicest complement I have ever received.

Unbelievable! Tina Turner actual wrote back to me! (this may be the first time ever).
Here is her response, followed by my follow-up:
Tell me why do you use the website name of Jehovah's Witnesses.com. If you guys are so interested in showing the wrongs of the Organization why put Jehovah's name into it. That is the main reason I know that this is an another attack by satan to bring reproach upon Jehovah's name. It seems like you guys deliberately go out of your way to use Jehovah's name though you are complaining about the Watchtower Society and the way its ran, but it is another thing to try to mislead witnesses into thinking a site is about there dear friends and than humiliate them into finding out its an APOSTATE board. Pretending to be Sheep when in actuality your in Wolves clothing. The bible talks about you guys plain and clear and i'm not surprised about the persecution cause it is only prophecy that Jesus foretold about, but I am saddened that people who once claimed to love Jehovah would not let his will be done, even if there was all these contradictions by humans and mistakes made by humans. Jehovah said to make the "truth" your own but obviously you haven't done that. May he bless you anyway, which I doubt. Because right now you guys are committing the ultimate sin. Sinning against the "holy spirit". You will feel his wrath when it is all over.
Here is my response to the Diva of Rock Music
Dear TEENA TURNER,
Thanks again for writing. We do appreciate it. Again, we would like to set the record straight, in a simple point-by-point manner.
We can assume you have not read the "Frequently Asked Questions" ( http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/admin/faq.htm ). If you had, you would know the answer to your question "why do you use the website name of Jehovah's Witnesses.com?" To save you some time, here is the relevant section from the web page we referred to:Haven't you commercialized Jehovah's name with "JehovahsWitnesses.com"? Isn't the "dot com" disrespectful?
The JehovahsWitnesses.com domain is owned by NetIdentity.com. Quotes.JehovahsWitnesses.com is not related to or controlled by NetIdentity.com. NetIdentity.com is a company in the business of renting internet sub-domains. According to their website, they have registered over 15,000 internet domains, including family names, and various sports, hobbies, professions, and religions. They "own" the JehovahsWitnesses.com domain, and we rent the "Quotes" sub-domain from them. No disrespect is intended by our site name; it was simply "conveniently available" when we created this site.
We would prefer that our website was called "Watchtower Quotes.com" or something like that but NetIdentity did not have that available in 1998 when we started this website. Also, please note that our website refers only to Jehovah's Witnesses --> not Jehovah himself. We feel that you have failed to make that important distinction.
You stated "If you guys are so interested in showing the wrongs of the Organization why put Jehovah's name into it." You have clearly jumped to your own conclusion: that we are interested in showing the wrongs of the Organization. We did not state that, and furthermore, since we only quote publications from the Watchtower Society, we can not take any responsibility for whatever conclusion you reached on your own. Perhaps you should be aware that we also receive email from active Witnesses saying "thank you for providing this research".
As for this being an "attack by Satan to bring reproach on Jehovah's name". Well, I suppose only two beings know this for sure: Jehovah, and Satan. As far as we know, we are only librarians/historians who have collected information together, not Satanists. Interestingly, I understand that similar projects regarding other movements are similarly labelled "attacks by Satan" by members of those groups. In fact, some in the Catholic Church have, at one time, labelled Jehovah's Witnesses work as Satanic. We disagreed with the Catholic Church then, and we disagree with you now.
"you are complaining about the Watchtower Society and the way its ran" Again, all "complaints" are completely absent from our website, which contains only Watchtower publications quotes. Ergo, "we" are not saying anything, ergo, "we" can not be complaining.
"try to mislead witnesses into thinking a site is about there dear friends and than humiliate them into finding out its an APOSTATE board" -- Again, you seem to be referring to our choice of site name as being "misleading". As already stated in point number 1 (above) that was not our intent. We do not humiliate, since that would require us to actually say something, but since we have only quotes, and no editorial comments at all, that is impossible. Finally, we operate a "website" not a "message board". As for it being "apostate", you seem to be saying that Watchtower Society publications are apostate, since that is the only information at our website. By extension, your argument would suggest that the library at a Kingdom Hall is apostate, since it contains the same information. Obviously, such a conclusion would be ridiculous. Similarly, our site is not, and can not be, apostate.
"Pretending to be Sheep when in actuality your in Wolves clothing" -- Again, our site is devoid of commentary. We are not pretending to be anything other than what we are: a collection of Watchtower publication quotes. That is what we are, and that is what we "pretend" to be.
"The bible talks about you guys plain and clear" -- We disagree with you, since we would never be so proud and full of hubris to think that the bible talks about us specifically.
"i'm not surprised about the persecution" -- We fail to see how a collection of Watchtower quotes is "persecution" -- especially considering that quotes is the ONLY thing we are talking about here. On the other hand, we saw a show on the History Channel about WWII where Six Million Jews were killed by the Nazis. Now THAT is persecution.
"I am saddened that people who once claimed to love Jehovah" -- Here you have jumped to the erroneous conclusion that we are former members, or that we do not love Jehovah God, or both. Both assumptions are incorrect.
"would not let his will be done" -- We fail to understand how our simple collection of quotes interferes with God's plans. Please explain via return email.
"even if there was all these contradictions by humans and mistakes made by humans." -- You seem to feel there are "contradictions" -- you said it, not us.
"Jehovah said to make the "truth" your own but obviously you haven't done that." -- All of our quotes are fully referenced and correct -- truthful, in other words. We challenge you to find even one error or misrepresentation at our site.
"May he bless you anyway, which I doubt." -- Thank you. God Bless You!
"right now you guys are committing the ultimate sin. Sinning against the "holy spirit"." -- We have to say that this sounds very judgemental. I thought the latest understanding from the Society was that the Sheep/Goat judging work was not to start until after the Great Tribulation started. Are you jumping the gun here?
"You will feel his wrath when it is all over." -- Again, this sounds rather hateful, and not in keeping with Jesus commands to "love your enemies". Perhaps we have misunderstood what you mean here, but as a fellow Christian, I can't feel the love.
Again, thanks for writing, and we hope we have corrected your misunderstandings regarding Quotes.JehovahsWitnesses.com.
Sincerely,
[email protected]
http://Quotes.JehovahsWitnesses.comI sometimes wonder why I bother, but then I remember that line Tom Cruise's character said to Camy Diaz in Vanilla Sky regarding her music/singing: "You know, they say if you can reach just one person..."

From: TEENA TURNER [email address removed]
Subject: Interesting!!
I cannot believe how low some of you people will sink in order to slander Jehovah's name. I will report you to the organization and let them know that you are actually saying that you are from the Watchtower organization and trying to mislead people even going as far as saying this site is incorporated by the Watchtower society. So glad Jehovah gives me common sense to know that something was amiss on this site.My email response:
Dear TEENA TURNER [email address removed]
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. It is always good to hear from visitors to our website.
We would like to humbly point out a few things that, perhaps, you have overlooked.
Our website does not slander Jehovah's name. It only contains quotes from the publications of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Nothing more, nothing less.
Please feel free to "report" us to whomever you wish. As for the Watchtower Society, they are already familiar with our website. Since our education/study/research website fully complies with copyright laws, they do not seem interested in us.
No where -- **NO WHERE** -- in our website do we say we are from the Watchtower. Rather, our site clearly indicates the nature of our site and who we are -- and also who we are not. Perhaps you missed this important information, so we sincerely ask that you please read the web pages at "About this Website" (http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/admin/about.htm) and "Frequently Asked Questions" (http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/admin/faq.htm).
Our site does not try and mislead anyone. In fact, the opinions of the webmasters are *NOT* expressed at our website. Rather, it contains *ONLY* quotes from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society's publications.
Please, *PLEASE* tell us: where do you think our site says it is "incorporated by the Watchtower society"? We are certain that you have misunderstood something, and we know positively that this is neither said nor implied in anything in our site. However, in the spirit of humility, we would be happy to hear from you exactly where you think this is stated. Please let us know via return email.
We are all thankful to Jehovah for the many gifts He has given us, including the powers of perception.
Once again, for the record, our website contains *ONLY* direct, and fully referenced, quotes from Watchtower publications. We do *NOT* include any commentary or editorial. Having said that, if you did read something you did not like at our site, then perhaps you should contact the Watchtower Society, since they wrote *EVERYTHING* we have at our site.

P.S. We love your music, Ms Turner. When can we expect a new CD? ;)Here is another letter from a few days ago from another person. It seems my website even upsets Anglicans:
From: Randy Lockyer [address removed]
Subject: you guys are pathetic I can't believe I just read the most hog wash I have ever read anywhere before. Your doctrines are from another planet, your concept of equality of men and women is discriminatory, your views on blood, trinity, Jesus, and so much more are wacky. man I can't believe you have brain washed so many people in the world and destroyed so many families with your distorted biblical and theological views. I am praying for the salvation of all the Jehovah's Witnesses (by the way did you know that Yahweh is the right Hebrew term and not Jehovah? Just another of your major slip ups in your interpretations) Every magazine left in my door is returned to where it came from. I am an Anglican Christian, and I truly believe that the doctrines and interpretation of scripture is spot on. Goodness me you people don't even believe the Lord's Prayer, its written there as plain as day for you to read in the NT. That prayer is so universal I don't know why you find it repulsive. Anyhow, I hope you come to see the error of your ways, and seek the real truth. Bye!Concerned that this self described "Anglican Christian" was so, well, UNCHRISTIAN, I attempted to set the record straight:
Thank you for taking the time to write to us. It is always good to hear from visitors to our website.
Please note that your obvious anger and frustration with JWs is misplaced in an email to us.
We are not JWs. We do not condone or support JWs. Yes, JW "doctrines are from another planet" and we couldn't agree with you more. And that is exactly why we have created our website. To let people learn the truth about this dangerous cult that refers to itself as "The Truth".
By presenting JW beliefs in a non-confrontational manner, we hope that some JWs will dare to visit our site without fear of reading "apostasy" (as they call it) and maybe, in the process, arrive at the same conclusion you have -- that their faith is illogical, ridiculous, and based on revisionist history.
Please read the "About this Website" (http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/admin/about.htm) and "Frequently Asked Questions" (http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/admin/faq.htm) to get a better understanding of why your well deserved anger need not be directed at us.
Also, a humble suggestion. If your email was received by actual JWs, it would only serve to strengthen their resolve and validate their "persecution complex" -- which is so common to cults. A better strategy is one that involves compassion (as a Christian I shouldn't have to remind you of this) and treats rank-and-file JWs as they truly are: victims of a dangerous cult.
Thanks again for writing, and pass along our website to your friends so that they can see the hypocrisy of the Watchtower and JWs.Finally, this type of email really warms my heart:
I'm doing bible studies with the JW. after having viewed this website. Doubts
have kicked in and i'm not sure what to say. How reliable are these quotes?
and why they are not in the CD- Roms?Best regards.
[name removed]
My response:
Thanks for writing to us. It is always good to get email from visitors to
our website. It is interesting, and in our opinion, significant, that after visiting our
site, "doubts have kicked in". Why do we say that? Because our site contains
only QUOTES from the Watchtower Society. We have not provided commentary or
forced our opinion on you. Rather, your doubts came entirely from your own
ability to think, study, and ponder. You asked, "how reliable are these quotes?" and that is a perfectly valid
question. Although we could go on at great length to explain to you that all
of these quotes are valid, untainted, and unchanged (all of which are true),
that would not be as effective as would you determining the reliability of
the quotes yourself. We strongly encourage you to do this, as we are totally
certain that you will find the quotes reliable, accurate, and contextually
correct.Your ability to study the reliability of the quotes leads us to your next
question: "why they are not in the CD-Roms?". An excellent question, but if
we may clarify it slightly: "Why are SOME not in the CD-Roms?". You see,
many of the quotes at our website ARE contained on the CD-ROMs (see the
:"Source Material" section of our site:
http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/admin/source.htm). However, if you
scroll down that page you will discover that the Watchtower CD-ROM only
contains Watchtower magazines starting at 1950, and Awake! magazines,
yearbooks, and Kingdom Ministry starting at 1970. Any material from sources
earlier than that is not available.(As an interesting side note, when the very first Watchtower CD-ROM was
released in 1993, we complained to a JW friend that the older publications
were not included, to which he responded that it was simply a manpower
issue, and the next CD-ROM (1995) would have *ALL* the Watchtowers, right
back to the 1880s. Three CD-ROMs later -- the latest was just released --
and we still don't have that older material, and we suspect that it will
*NEVER* be included on the CD-ROM.)So to answer your question: only the Watchtower Society can explain why some
of the quotes at our website are not on the CD-ROM. They may claim that it
is because of limited space on the CD-ROM, but those claims are, in our
opinion, rather weak, and could easily be solved (e.g. a second CD-ROM with
only the older publications could be published by itself. Once complete, it
would never have to be changed, and the new CD-ROM releases would only have
to contain the latest publications). It is also interesting to note that in
at least one case, a relatively recent book is conspicuously absent from the
CD-ROM: "Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God" which was published
in 1966. Again, only the Watchtower Society can explain why this publication
is not included (although we have our own hypothesis). Many quotes from this
particular "missing" book can be found on our category "1975"
(http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/1975.htm).The fact that some of the quotes on our site are missing from the CD-ROM is
not meant as any sort of trick or deception on our part. Rather, we felt it
is important to explain to any visitors to our site if the quote is not on
the CD-ROM, so they won't waste time looking for it there. Instead, you will
have to use other means to verify the quotes (which we *STRONGLY*
encourage). Here are some ideas to get you started: Kingdom Hall library;
antique and used bookstores; online auctions sites (i.e. ebay); or simply
ask the JW person you are studying with. The last suggestion (ask the person studying with you) may prove to be a
waste of time. Although there is a slim chance that this person will help
you find & verify the material in question (and be perhaps surprised as you
are); you are just as likely to hear them dismiss your sincere desire to
research these matters as "a waste of time" or perhaps tell you that "you
have been confused by Apostate lies (on the internet) and there is no point
in further confusing you" or that "New Light has replaced Old Light and
there is no point in you looking at the Old Light, and you are fortunate
that you don't have to know about any of that silly Old Light". Of course,
these arguments are probably offered sincerely, but they don't really answer
anything and only serve to hide things. Furthermore, they do not agree with
the many statements that the Watchtower has written which encourage people
to verify their religion (see
http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/verify.htm). It sometimes seems like the
admonition to verify and test one's religion applies to every other
religion, but not to JWs themselves (see
http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/verify_not.htm).Again, thank you for writing, and please to make some effort to verify the
quotes at our site. Also, we would like to hear from you again, perhaps in a
few weeks or months, to see how your research is proceeding. Please do write
to us again and let us know how things are going. Also, if there is anything
else we can do, please email to us again. -

Quotes
I am reminded of the ads for Star Wars Episode I. I think this works both for Darth Maul and the Governing Body:
(to be read with scary Darth Maul voice).
Fear.... fear attracts the fearful.... the strong.... the weak... the innocent... the corrupt...
Fear....
Fear is my ally.
Also, I think Yoda's words of wisdom apply:
Fear leads to anger.... anger leads to hate... hate leads to suffering...

Blondie, I always enjoy your posts and respect your hard work and research.
Having said that, I would like to offer a little "constructive criticism".
Use the "QUOTE" feature in Simon's editor when making your post. (It is the little cartoon-like word-bubble in the editor tool-bar next to the "happy face" emoticon button. Just select the text that is WT material, then click the button... Voila!
It will make your posts a bit easier to read, by differentating the WT's words from your comments.
Again, I mean this in the nicest way and am not trying to nit-pick or start a fight.
