I currently work for a company headquartered in Livermore, California. I travel to Livermore, on average, about 1 week per month. Any locals want to drop me a line on PM and I'll look you up on my next trip to the West Coast. ~Q

Blood Transfusion "matter of choice" for JWs
by dozy inhttp://www.utvlive.com/newsroom/indepth.asp?id=80831&pt=n.
richard parker, a member of the jehovah`s witnesses, says that the refusal of transfusions is one of their fundamental beliefs.
based on what is written in the bible.it is not forbidden by their faith but is a matter of choice for the individual, he said.. who is richard parker - branch committee?

Using WT's own "logic", I could argue that here in Canada, MURDER is a "matter of conscience" and that the only reason I don't murder is because I have decided I don't want to, after studying the bible, or the Constitution Act, or consulting my conscience, or whatever.
The fact is, regardless of whether I have personally decded to murder someone, or not murder someone (because of my personal philosophy), murder is ILLEGAL and will be PUNISHED with prison time -- my conscience does not enter into the conclusion.
Similarly, for a JW, blood transfusion is "illegal" and will be punished.
Of course, my analogy is flawed in one respect, because most people don't want to, or have to, murder someone; but they often must receive a blood transfusion. Yet if they do, they contrravene the "laws" of Watchtowerism.
Watchtower spokesmen always use the same weak arguements that don't stand up to even rudimentary scrutiny.

Did you stop singing the songs BEFORE you stopped going to meetings?
by zack inafter i found out the truth abouth the troof, i could not--- i mean physically could not---- sing a note of a jw song at a meeting.. this was way before i decided to make a plan and a final break.
this happen to anyone?.

Quotes
I actually did a 180, and sang really, Really, REALLY LOUD!!!! (and, I'm sure, very, VERY BADLY-- I have no illusions that I am anything other than a very bad singer). The more the BS parts would stick in my throat, the more I would practically shout out the words!
It was fun, my own little protest, in a way. It annoyed everyone around me, including my zealous wife. But what could they say? You're supposed to sing, right? One of the elders once mentioned something to me about it, something like "boy, you really like to sing, don't you?" I just kind of nodded and said "yup". I think he wanted to draw me into a self incriminating discussion, but I didn't take the bait.
Sing, sing out loud, sing out strong! Sing to the point of creating a disruption!

THE IMPORTANCE OF HOLDING HANDS!
by Dansk ini started a thread a long hug http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/128891/1.ashx which touches on the below, but feel this subject deserves a thread of its own.. a study, highlighted on bbc breakfast news yesterday, acknowledged the importance of holding hands in a relationship, courting or married.
it was stated that couples who hold hands in the street are more likely to have a solid relationship - and especially those who interlink their fingers when holding hands as this indicates a desire to be as close to each other as possible.
arm linking is ok, too, but couples who just walk about not holding hands - and this includes married couples - indicates the relationship could be in trouble.. do you hold hands with your spouse/partner?

True story: I was reprimanded by an Elder in August 1989 for holding hands with my wife of 3 months during the meeting.
I was told that is might send the wrong message to the single ones, and make them feel like they are missing out.
Thank you Bro. Dave E, that was the beginning of the end for me!

So little knowledge
by grissom6471 inso many people here and so little knowledge of jehovah's witnesses.
there are still people here associating jehovah's witnesses with the watchtower society when that is not the case.
so many people look to the past not the future.
-
Quotes
Hey Grissom:
If Turn to page 26 of the March Awake! magazine (Young People Ask -- How can I say NO to sex at school").
On page 26, it mentions the book "Questions Young People Ask -- Answers That Work"
There is a footnote next to that book title.
Read the footnote.
What does the footnote say?
It says "Published by Jehovah's Witnesses". It does NOT say "Published by Watch Tower".
This one simple footnote demonstrates a complete lack of distinction between JWs and WTS, your claim that they are distinct entities notwithstanding. You are obviously not keeping in step with present truth, brother.

Ah yes, the "distinction without a difference" between JWs and WTS. This is truly the last pathetic refuge of an enslaved mind fighting to preserve a vanishing fantasy. When a JW uses this one, it means they have accepted as factual and damning the dirty but true secrets of the WTS!!! But since the person can't disprove the facts (about WTS), and can't argue against the significance of those facts, instead has to pretend that the Dirty, Evil Watchtower Empire is totally different and unrelated to JWs!!!
Uh, yeah. Right. Whatever.
I guess when JWs tell each other they have to "Stick with The Organization" and "Be Thankful to Jehovah for His Earthly Organization" and when discussing the various JW prohibitions, ask each other "Well, what does THE SOCIETY have to say? Brother, do you know what THE SOCIETY says? Let's look to [the Society publication] Watchtower to see what Jehovah is telling us through His Channel, The Society", I guess THE SOCIETY doesn't mean the WTS Watch Tower Society? Means something else, then? hhhmmm?
Furthermore, by simple extension of your claim, I guess your local congregation can simply stop reading WTS publications and start publishing their own "JW" books and magazines. By your logic, that would be fine, right? What's that? So say if you, as a JW, supposedly distinct and separate from the WTS, were to try to substitute your own writings for the WTS writings, that you'd be disfellowshipped faster than you can say "not following the teaching set forth by Jehovahs slave"???? Oh really. Well, what does that tell you, hhhmmm?
Seriously, I'm offended by a JW insulting my intelligence by trying the threadbare "JWs not same as Society" argument. If you want to believe it, to prevent the mental discord which will wake you from your slumber, fine. But don't be surprised if no one else buys your ridiculous, ad hoc excuse.

kittyeatzjdubs, thank you for posting those links and saving me the trouble of finding them and posting them. The only thing more reprehensible than SB's pathetic display is Montel's aiding and abetting her fraud. Then again, it isn't fraud when you perform so badly that people are awestruck in shamed DIS-belief. For those that believe SB has "powers" -- please learn about "cold reading", you can start with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_reading. Oh, and if you really want to see a good cold reading show, there are plenty of performers much better than SB. That is the really sad part; she isn't even a very good cold reader performer. In other words, she is a fraud, but a fairly unentertaining fraud.

Turn-about is fair play. Here is the plan:
Who:
Date: Passover/Memorial, 2007.
Location: Whever you are.
You are dressed comfortably.
Using your carefully prepared list of local JWs, you go and pay a vist on each and every one in turn. Conversation goes something like this:
Knock-Knock!
You: hello. At this time of year, I am calling on people like you, in my neighborhood, asking them, "Do you ever think we will live in a time free from religious bigotry?"
JW-Householder: Who are you?
You: I'm one of your neighbours. Did you know that many strongly religious people don't really understand the religious beliefs of their neighbours? As a Pagan/Humanist/Wiccan/(insert your religion here) I just wanted to let you know more about my beliefs. For instance, we can see here in Part 2 of Thomas Paine's "The Age Of Reason" that the "bible" story is not even internally consistent. That is why I believe that...
JW-Householder: (angrily interrupting) You've picked a fine day to call! Today is the most important day on my religious calendar!
You: Excuse me?!???!!!????
JW-Householder: (still testy) Yes! It is the memorial of Christ's death.
You: I know, I know! As I said, that is why we are visiting our neighbours like yourself. We find that at this time of the year people are thinking of religious things.
JW-Householder: Wait-- you KNEW it was a special day for me, and still you came around to bother me with your un-godly beliefs?
You: Yes, as I said, we deliberately make an extra effort to reach people like yourself at this time of the year.
JW-Householder: Well, I think it is very rude of you. I don't care for your message, and I especially don't want to hear it on today, of all days!
You: So you think what I did was ignorant and inappropriate?
JW-Householder: YES!
You: So, I guess my point is made, and I won't be seeing you come around and bother me and my neighbours during our religious holidays (Easter/Passover, XMas, Channuka, Kwanza, St. Valentines, etc. etc? -

I'm confused
by Auchmull ini've been studying with a jw for a short time.
i started searching the internet for more information because much of what she was saying and what i was reading made sense, but i didn't trust my own judgment.
i haven't seen the ugliness that i read about here and as an outsider, it looks comforting.

Quotes
As JWs themselves sometimes say (when talking abuot OTHER religions), be sure to get ALL sides of the discussion before you make a decision. (Of course, they don't remind you of that when they are the topic of investigation; then the rules are "trust in God's Earthly Organization".
Read the books: Crisis of Conscience, In Search of Christian Freedom, Apocalypse delayed, etc. Heck, even read the big red Watchtower "Revelation" book. These people think they have every single scripture of Revelatoin figured out... and then ask yourself why they can't figure out other things like whether or not the Sodommites and Gamorites will be resurrected.
Stand back and get a "big picure" look at the Watch Tower organization and their drones called JWs. Look at what they DO, not what they say they do.
You may just find, as poster here GaryBuss says eloquently, a "Real Estate and Publishing empire, operating as a (High Control) Cult, and cleverly disguised as a religion."
