What a story...
Part of the sickness that JW's have is an exaggerated sense of self importance. They believe that the entire world is fascinated with them. That is probably why they engaged in so much infantile anti-social behavior -- like small children that mis-behave to get attention.

protesters against JWs at WTC on 9/11?
by concerned fiance inmy fiance's mother, who is in complete hysteria since the attack on 9/11 and went back to being a witness after 10 years (clearly the main reason my fiance is now considering he should go back)told my fiance something that she heard from one of the elders last week.
i am not sure if it is true and most likely, there is no way to prove it.
she said that on the day of the attack, there was a group of people outside the wtc screaming and badmouthing jws because they don't fly the flag etc.

I was a dub in San Diego. I currently live in the Temecula area and work in the Corona/Norco/Mira Loma area. My office is about a half mile down the road from the Mira Loma Assembly Hall.
Do you play golf? (It's like a sickness with me!) -

Newsflash....USA invades Iceland
by ISP inamerica has taken its war against terror beyond afghanistans borders and has struck another country.. .
as american bombs and missiles struck taleban targets in four afghan cities for the second consecutive night, the bush administration served formal notice at the united nations that this could be just the beginning of a worldwide campaign and that campaign has been extended to iceland.
john negroponte, the us ambassador to the un, said that the us investigation prompted military action against iceland as he had conclusive evidence that it sheltered al-qaeda and its taleban protectors...at some point, although he excepted that their might have been a spelling mistake.

Actually the next country we're going to invade is the Duchy of Grand Fenwick.

just one question
by beepers ini am an inactive witness.
the problem i'm having is that i have a 1 year old daughter.
not that she's the problem, but jw's believe that only jw's will survive armageddon.

If the JW's track record in forecasting Armageddon is any help to you, you're daughter will be asking this same question someday about her one year old grandaughter.

Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'
by Esmeralda inthe posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.
here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.
though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

One Sunday before the public talk, Elder M who was the WT study conductor asked me to be the WT reader as the scheduled reader was absent. During the song between meetings, Elder Q came up to the platform and whispered in my ear that I should sit down, he would be reading the WT. Elder M looked quite puzzled as this change took place with him not having a clue why. For that matter I hadn't a clue why. After the meeting, Elder Q came up to me and pressed a $5 bill into my hand (I was a poor pioneer you see) and told me to get a haircut. After this Elder M came up to me and asked what happened. I told him. His reaction was, "I guess you better get a haircut!"

Isn't it still Kaiser Wilhelm II? -

Counting Time... Is It Part Of The Rot?
by ballistic inhow many here have pioneered?.
be honest, what was predominantly on your mind, telling people this wonderfull good news or was it counting time?.
an elder once said to me, "you know, it's strange how when pioneers quit pioneering, they're hours don't stay the same, they don't gradually diminish and they don't even drop by half... they drop practically to nothing.".

Street Work -- now there was a totally inefficient pointless way to count hours. I was introduced to street work in downtown San Diego. We would stand like wooden Indians in front of a large bank building from 6 AM to 7:15, then we would go eat breakfast and then go to the meeting for field service, counting time all the way.
It seems that little has changed. Nowadays I'm a sales rep for a large trucking company. My fellow reps and I go to breakfast from time to time at a small dive cafe in a little strip mall. I've noticed JWs standing around the strip mall like wooden Indians holding up WTs. After awhile they come into the cafe and eat breakfast too! No doubt they're pioneers.

Linda's Donuts was (is?) at the corner of Lamont and Grand, not too far from Crown Point! Krishna Mulvaneys is no longer there (I wonder what happened to the rusted Cadillac). I will never forget Krishnas because it was there that my JW first wife announced to me that our marriage was "over."
Tug's I seem to remember had a very good "Taco Night" or maybe I'm getting it confused with some other place like The Menu or The Pennant -- it was a while ago. There were lots of fine dives where one could eat cheaply. -

I also pioneered back in the days of 100 hours per month. I'm with Farkel on the coffee/donut break. It was a regular part of our pioneer day and the best part (except for working in Mission Beach in the summer time!). Our favorite place was a little shop called Linda's Donuts in Pacific Beach. I wonder if it's still there?
Looking back, pioneering was mostly drudgery. I was deleted for failing to make my hours. I was averaging about 90 per month when I was deleted, six weeks later at the district assembly they announced that they were lowering the requirement to 90 per month. I like to think I helped contribute to that change!
