  For press freedom, democracy and standards of living, the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia and New Zealand always come out top, above the self-proclaimed democracies of the UK, France, Greece, the US.

  I don't think this is USA-bashing, but when many Americans say (I've heard all nationalities do it to be fair) that the US is the greatest country on earth, the rest of us feel a little more than justified in pointing out that sometimes it simply isn't...

  But I'm a Brit, so will always be first to run my country down. Unless you talk about London 2012. Which is old news now.

  I love Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings, and was even enjoying them when I was still going to meetings and conventions hearing thinly veiled references to the both of them in talks.

  Talking of which, once a CO was saying how bad modern music was, and said "There is even a group called 'Garbage', if that doesn't say it all I don't know what does". Cue all the over 40s (at the time) laughing, and all the under 30s rolling their eyes, even the good WT boys and girls thought he was a twat.

  Is it me, or do that not actually say "Jehovah's Witnesses" or "Temoins de Jehova"?! If a passerby doesn't know who owns jw.org (and as they speak french, it would be less intuitive to them) could wander in and get a bible study started before they realise who they are.

  A bit like the 'personality tests' the Scien-off their bloody head-tologists offer anonymously.

  What problem did being a JW leave with your personality?

  and i don't (necessarily) mean a religious or spiritual one.. for example, i think the traces of guilt and paranoia i often fight with come from being a born-in, but my biggest issue by far is not being able to live in the moment.. i have listened to the power of now audiobook (and eckhart tolle's voice put me to sleep) so i read it instead.

  i have read other self-help books, most of them buddhist in leaning, but i still find it hard to stop thinking only in the future (thanks to the great trib, armageddon), or in the past (jesus, flood, 1914 being responsible for that).

  and whilst i no longer believe the big a is looming, and barely give anything else a second thought, my behaviour has projected itself, and i still find it difficult just to 'be' in the moment, enjoying and savouring what i'm doing, and doing it to the best of my ability, i'm forever thinking what is coming up, and what i did badly last time.. my sister said the last time i visited her that she felt like she was waiting for something to happen "but not like armageddon, something else".

  Thanks for all your feedback, I think the control of the WTS just accentuates little 'kinks' we have in our personalities.

  Rub a dub! HA! Reminds me of a comedy sketch I saw many years ago...

  Julia - I hear you about the anxiety, I'm getting there, but still need to fight it.

  Heart of a boy - I hear ya! It takes some getting used to relying on your own opinions and not feeling restricted in what you say and think...

  UFO/Aliens.

  i have just watched a u-tube produced on the 1-6-2013 in canada of a paul hellyer who was a defence minister in canada who stated at some conference that he believes that there are at least 6 different alien 'races' making regular contact with the earth.

  one group is referred to as the 'tall whites'.. he understands that two individuals (alien) are working with the us government swapping intelligence and so on.

  he goes on to mention this knowledge of aliens is kept from the general population by the ususal super rich nasties the proposers of world government etc.. the interview is something to watch!

  Brothers who were held back from being elder for stupid reasons?

  do you think some/most appointments are politicially motivated?

  how much do you think politics plays in the appointment process versus merit?
